wikiHow:Upload Video

We now have two options to incorporate videos into wikiHow: YouTube and Kaltura. Although both systems allow you to add video to wikiHow pages in your user namespace or the Video namespace (please do not embed video directly into wikiHow articles at this time), they work somewhat differently. Depending upon how you plan to use your video, one may be a better option than the other. Please review the information below to decide how you would like to proceed.

Important Guidelines for All Videos

  • Make sure your video is compatible with wikiHow's licenses and is appropriate for our how-to manual.
  • Try to add videos that augment the written text in an article by offering examples of steps or processes.
  • Be sure to follow all instructions during the upload process and be sure to fill out the title, description and keywords for your video.
  • Review the help documentation for each service before uploading your videos.

With Kaltura, you can easily upload and import videos, photos and music to any page. This flexible solution (which is open-source) makes it possible for wikiHow editors to collaborate on videos (same as in text-wiki) - any user can contribute to and edit videos created using Kaltura.
With wikiHow's YouTube system, you can upload videos to wikiHow's YouTube account and easily add these videos to wikiHow pages. The YouTube system is easy to use, but does not allow editing of videos once they are uploaded.
