Anxiety is a part of everyday life...we are anxious about many things. However, anxiety disorders can affect our life[1] in many ways that most need to learn how to cope with to get better from them. There are medications to ease anxiety and seeing a professional is always a good idea.

edit Steps

  1. 1
Become more aware of your physical being. Your body is usually the 'first one to know' when you are suffering from anxiety.
  2. 2
Learn to recognize the physical symptoms. Some of them are:[1]
    • Problems sleeping
    • Cold or sweaty hands and/or feet
    • Shortness of breath
    • Palpitations
    • An inability to be still and calm
    • Dry mouth
    • Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
    • Nausea
    • Muscle tension (one way this presents itself is making you feel like you are shivering when you aren't cold)
    • Dizziness
      • You don't have to be exhibiting all of the symptoms to be having an anxiety attack. Everyone is different.
      • Be aware that you could also have symptoms that are specific to you and not on a list somewhere.
  3. 3
Try to see if there is some kind of cycle to the symptoms.
  4. 4
See a professional. This is not something that you can get over by yourself.
  5. 5
Know that an attack doesn't always last a short time. Anxiety to any trigger can last over a period of days or weeks.
  6. 6
Look around the Internet. The Internet is a great source of information and much of it is good information. Be sure that you are looking at legitimate sites and not someone out to get some money. About.Com has a quiz that could help you identify your emotional being.
