Great tutorials Fabio - as always. Now I need to download Illustrator. I love how you take something as beautiful as the swirls you created and figure out how to make it 100 times better by adding it in with a real photo.

Here's a collection of 18 swirly curly photoshop brushes. As always they are free for personal use. If however, you would like to use them for commercial purposes please be good enough to let me know and give me a donation for all of my hard hours of toil! Also, if you would just like to say thanks a donation to the continuation of my work would be gladly accepted. Thank you and I hope that you enjoy my new brush set. Oh yes and if you use them for web work then please credit: http://www.spiralpixel.com.

Learn how to render some great colorful swirls that can be also used to blend with photos or to make special effects.

Since you've already made the first ring, I will jump from here to tell you that the image on the left was made by duplicating the ring layer several times and simply varying it by scaling, rotating, adding a few filters (like blurs) and changing the opacities of each duplicate. Eventually this is how it will end up. When you're done, simply merge all the ring layers.

Today we are glad to release Swirls Illustrations Set, a sets of 10 high-quality vector illustrations, created with Adobe Illustrator and available as .eps source files. These illustrations were created by Designious.com and released exclusively for Smashing Magazine and its readers.

Today we are happy to release Swirls, Flowers and Circles, a vector graphics set designed by Pien Duijverman from Netherlands. The vector graphics can be downloaded for free and is available in formats AI (Adobe Illustrator CS3) and EPS (8.0).

STEP 5: Duplicate the layer. Select the new layer and press Ctrl + U (Hue/Saturation). Check the Colorize option and use these settings to change te color of the new swirl:

1. We're going to make a colorful and good looking swirl and you should start out by creating a 800*600 document. Now go to (filter - render - clouds) so you end up with something like this.

Continue making swirls, branches and leaves until you have a design you're happy with. Be creative and remember to experiment with different sizes and widths to keep the look organic. Here's what I came up with.

Using the pixel stretch technique and polar coordinates, you can create an interesting swirl. This is a neat little effect that can be used with any picture and in any project and it only takes a few quick steps!

There are lots of ways to create swirls in Illustrator, you can even download vectors from sites such as bittbox and dezignus, and if you are using Photoshop you can download brushes with those sorts of symbols.

Another thing you can do is Show the original text layer and set its blending mode to Exclusion, and move it on top of the effects layer.

Now go to Select->Modify->Contract. Enter 5 pixel.(this depends on how big your text is, for the size im using here, i need 5 pixels).

First, you'll have to draw the basic outline of what you want your magic to look like. Mine is all swirly like. Create a new layer above your black background and , using a hard edged brush, draw your pattern in a grey colour.

If you plan on making a website from the results of this tutorial, you'll need to make sure the graphics end in a logical way at the edge of the image (i.e. they don't just stop suddenly.) One way to achieve this is to make this white area end before the edge of the window. Another method is to make the image 1600 pixels wide, so you can set it as the background of a 100%-wide table in your web editor.

Now grab a free swirly brush set such as this one. Create a new layer above your hand layer called 'swirls'. Then use various swirly brushes from your set to brush over your hand. I used a purple brush color just to highlight where I'd placed my brush strokes. Try to use as many of the brushes as possible, varying size and positioning to create a random mess of swirls covering most of the hand. Don't worry about going over the edges of your hand either, we'll deal with that in the next step.
