Download a copy of this image and load it into photoshop. Go back to our own document and press the "M" key to select the Rectangular Marquee Tool, then move your mouse over the text until the cursor turns into a rectangular marquee shape: (see image below) Ctrl+Click the text layer thumbnail to get the selection. Press Q to enable quick mask. From "Filter" menu select "Sketch>>Halftone Pattern". Apply settings as shown. And that is it. Now you have some golden shiny text. Actually this tutorial is mainly just to show that you can do many different text effects by selecting the text and creating a new layer. Experiment with different gradients and get something you like. I made the picture below using essentially the same technique. And you have your golden text ready. Wasn't it that much easy? Yes it is but have professional golden text effect. One more thing, if you are using the white background then you can add drop shadow to your text. By applying drop shadow, your text will stand out in white background. With your text font active click on the new layer icon to make a new layer just above your text layer. Make sure your new layer is above your text layer and then choose Layer>Layer Properties... ,enter "Shadows" for the layer name and click OK. With your "Shadows" layer still active Ctrl+click (Mac: Command+Click) on your Text layer to make a selection. After you made the selection go to Select>Modify>Contract and enter 5 for the value, then click OK. This will reduce the selection by 5 pixels. 3. Now we want to give our text some nicer colors, but first we need to flatten the image. Go to: Layer --> Flatten Image. Now made your image in to one layer and made it editable for adjustments. Now go to Image --> Adjustments --> Hue/Saturation. I have tried out what makes the best gold effect and I have reached the conclusion that theese is the best gold settings: I have seen many tutorials that make gold effects on text using channels, flatten image or rasterize. Here you will learn to make golden text only using Blending Options. 3. To finish these kind of things off, I very often flatten the image, apply Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen, fade the sharpen a bit (Edit > Fade) then apply Filter > Render > Lighting Effects. I love it!
