Neosurrealism is a combined imagery of dreams, fantasies, and subconscious mind visions in fine art painting, digital art graphic, and photography. In the mid 1980s, modern computer technologies brought a large amount of additional depicting power to contemporary artists not possible by hand. The arrival of desktop publishing and the introduction of software applications introduced a generation of artists to computer image manipulation and 3D image creation that had previously been unachievable. There are thousands of artists, digital and traditional fine art media, who create neo-surrealistic, surreal fantasy, and fantasy realism artworks comparable to Neosurrealism.

In this tutorial I'm going to how you how to replicate the American Idol logo in Photoshop. 1) First, open a new document (approximate size of 500x300) with a white background. 2) Next, select the Ellipse Tool and draw an ellipse with the color #1E2E69. 3) Select the blending options of the ellipse layer, and check the "Stroke" box. Set the size of the stroke to 23, position outside and color #24569F. It may be that the width of your stroke will be different to the one in my example, given the potential difference of size of the ellipses. Play around with the settings until you get something that looks like below: 4) Now duplicate the Ellipse Layer and name it "Ring". Remove the stroke layer effect, select the ellipse in the duplicated layer and color it with a light blue color (#00AAED). Then go to Select -> Modify -> Contract and set the "Contract" to 8 pixels. Once again you will have to play with the settings to get the look you want. Once you have contracted the selection, hit delete. That should leave you with something that looks like this: 5) Using the scale tool, enlargen the "Ring" layer until you have something that looks like this: 6) The base of the logo is now done! All we need to do is add the text. Select the text tool, and write "American" with the font Kaufmann Bd BT, size around 90 pt, color white. Rotate the text approximately 10? to the left. NOTE: Kaufmann Bd BT is not a font that comes with you computer. It is available online, but not for free. You can download a similar font, Airstream, here if you are not willing to pay for Kaufmann Bd BT. 7) Rasterize the Text layer (Layer -> Rasterize -> Type) and, using the Pen Tool, create the following path: 8) Right click on the path with the pen tool and select "Make Selection". Create a new layer called "Streak", and fill in the selection (Ctrl/Cmd-D) with White. Then link the "Streak" layer with the "American" layer, and merge them (Layer -> Merge Linked). Rename this layer "America Below". Then duplicate it, rename the duplicate "America Above", and place this layer above "America Below". 9) Go to the Blending Options of "America Below" and select the "Stroke" Style. Change the settings to Size: 6px and Color: #24569F. Then go to the blending options of "America Above" and check the "Outer Glow" box and set the options as follows: Blend Mode - Screen; Opacity - 75%; Color: #00A5ED; Size - 8px. Hit OK. You should end up with something that looks like this: 10) Once again, select the text ...

Hi zico, sorry but this video you can watch just online. We don't have it in our download tutorials section... ON :2009-03-29 03:51:53

NO - DEFINITELY MAY NOT! I don't mind, of course, any form of back link to Digital Photo News tutorials section, but taking any one of the tutorials whole and supplanting it on your website is theft. If you really like the tutorials and want to advertise them, why not just hyperlink directly to their URL? Is it possible to submit some of my own tutorials?

Before I started to make digital art/graphic design I was really into photography. I was photographing alot (not professionally, its was more like hoppy). But after a few years I got more and more into photoshop and the possibilities it gaves. Then I started just trying to do cool stuff, I read alot of books and websites about graphic design. In my opinion it is one of those fields you can't be too good. After 5 years doing this more and less professionally I am still learning alot. At the moment I am studing in Oulu University of Applied Sciences Business and Information Management, majoring in digital media. Beside that I am graphic designer in finnish advert agency called Ty??maa.

Before you start: This is a fairly advanced tutorialdefinitely more difficult than the clouds tutorial. It covers my whole painting process, from sketch to finishing touches, and can be applied to either Photoshop painting or oil painting. The example in question is a digital painting, but I will also describe how I would render the same effects in oils, for anyone who would like to follow along on a non-electronic canvas. You will need a pressure sensitive tablet of some sort if you are going to do this on the computer: a mouse will NOT work for some of the techniques I am going to describe. If you are using oil paints, you will want at least one large brush (1 inch across or more), one medium flat brush, and a small detail brush. You should also have at least some experience with whichever medium you intend to use, because this tutorial assumes your knowledge of basic terms and techniques.

In this Photoshop tutorial I will show how I used Photoshop and a Wacom Tablet to create a digital illustration of a voluptuous Wonder Woman pin up. The tutorial reveals one of my digital painting techniques with a step by step walk through including images for each stage and layer settings. Enjoy!

Mathieu Raynault is probably one of the top 10 film matte painters in the world having worked for movies like Lord of the rings, 300, The day after tomorrow, Matrix, Star Wars, The mummy returns and many others. If you'd probably want to know how to make matte painting in Photoshop at the highest level and learn some techniques he's the one you should pay for some digital art lessons. Now enjoy this pure and excellent art. You'll see that most of his digital paintings look like a well taken photograph. That's quality.

Olli-Pekka Jauhiainen is a 26 years old graphic designer and illustrator from Helsinki, Finland. As you will see in the following He's not only a graphic designer, he's a graphic artist because after he finishes his works they can only be named art, digital art, graphic art, whatever you want to call it.

When I hear around ???digital artist??? I can???t stop thinking of a very talented designer and that designer is Justin Maller. He has some photo manipulations that would make you stare at them for hours and still don???t figure out how he made them. This is g

Now let's add some smooth blue text to finish off our piece. Your text should always fit nicely with the theme you have going on. Since we had a flying birds illustration, we should probably add a smooth rounded text. I picked the text 'MyriadPro' a slightly italic text that will go nicely with the theme. I added this font in a nice blue color (#006E85). You should have something like this:

All in all this tutorial won't give you the best way to create black and white artwork from every photo but I hope this insight into the process for one picture will give you some ideas to use in your own Adobe Photoshop work. The final result is one of my favorite photos that started out as a mediocre shot that had potential.

Layer 2 ( View Image ) Duplicate the gradient layer and apply filter -> Render -> Difference Clouds 5 times. Set the layer to soft light.

2. Select the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M) and draw a circle while pressing on the Shift key. The circle should display "walking ants" around its circumference.

In this Photoshop tutorial you will learn how to create a very smooth digital art piece. This is a signature with smooth flowing lines and abstract work. Below you can see the final result of the signature:

I will choose this picture to edit. 1. Firstly, open up a new document of size 2020pixels +. This will be dependant on the amount of text you wish your anti-rip to have. For example if you want to merely have ’PREV’ as your text, a 2020pixel document is what you wish. However, if you want you site name, we suggest using something a little bigger. Below is a size selection image-

With Desaturate command we convert the photograph into grayscale and then add spice with Brightness and Contrast.

Fantasy art scenes are usually handled with a liberal sprinkling of Photoshop plug-in fairy dust – but you don’t have to slavishly follow that route. By creating your own brushes in Adobe Illustrator, and using scanned elements with Photoshop, it’s a simple process to create otherworldly scenes that are alive with glow effects and shafts of virtual light.

Since you will be trimming the background away, fill the background layer with black or another dark color (Alt + Backspace will fill the selected layer with your foreground color).  Rename the layer with the stock photo “Base? or “Original?.  Also, notice that the artist chose to recreate the body and neckline, so remove that from the stock photo as well.

For this tutorial, we’re going to be primarily using Adobe Photoshop to create an image that layers a stack of simple effects. The result is a more complex final image that shows considerable depth in its composition.

Capturing the inner beauty of an object with an X-ray is not an easy task. Only a handful of photographers combine photography as an art form with radiology – which might have something to do with the fact that achieving the effect requires highly-specialized equipment, that bombards the subjects with potentially-lethal ionizing radiation.

Fantasy art is a genre all of its own: just like any other art form, it has its own rules and conventions. Slick, polished finishes are central to fantasy art. To achieve these slick finishes, you’ll need razor-sharp compositing skills and a neat way with colour – you’re aiming for something that looks as though it could be real, but that nonetheless has a faraway, dreamlike feel.

One of the most frustrating things about outdoor photography is finding yourself at a particular location at the wrong time of day for the result you desire. Digital manipulation comes to the rescue, perhaps allowing us to transform a daytime subject into the night scene we originally had in mind.

The tricky thing about many outdoor-scene projects is that they’re often commissioned months before they’re used, meaning that you can find yourself trying to come up with summer scenes in chilly spring weather, or winter scenes in the height of summer.

Doodling is an everyday part of life for most creatives ??? it???s as natural as holding a pen. Whether you???re etching out little characters on the back of an envelope while you???re on the telephone, or creating a complex masterpiece in the back of a notebook, bus trip by bus trip, it???s an essential part of developing your own style and honing your imagination and artistic skills.

03. Using the Polygonal Lasso tool, make a rough angular selection similar to the one in my image (to get to the Polygonal Lasso tool, click the little triangle in the corner of the Lasso tool button). Make sure you???re working on the ???Background 2??? layer.

Graphic design is a lot like cooking: the more ingredients and techniques you can combine, the broader the choice of treats you can dish up ??? and this neon style is a great one to have in your cookbook, whether you use it as a little seasoning or the central dish.

How do you paint skin tones? Do you fill in with one largely uniform colour, and then add a bit of a flush on the cheeks? Real skin tones are more complex than that.

If you ever had a poster of Salvador Dal?????s melting clocks or spindle-legged camels on your student bedroom wall, you???ll recognise this picture???s influences immediately.

Setting the overall mood of an image can be easy, thanks to simple, highly effective lighting effects in Photoshop. It can also add another dimension to a relatively bland photo ??? making it a powerful tool to have in your box of tricks as a designer or illustrator.

It???s a distinctive, tongue-in-cheek style that???s still relevant today ??? after all, our society hasn???t got any less consumer-oriented. This means that pop art is a useful, versatile visual shorthand for 21st-Century designers, instantly evoking kitsch, with a sharp note of satire. In this masterclass,

This tutorial is the opposite, and hopefully a breath of fresh air. We are going back to the basics of pen and paper to create a cool multi-layered piece with a personal touch. You???ll be hand-rendering loads of elements and integrating them in to your piece.

Image backgrounds in digital art can be more than simply act as incidental scenery to a piece of work. Rather, with good planning and some honed colour skills, it???s possible for backgrounds to frame an image in an incredible variety of ways.

Cut-&-paste montages in Photoshop are probably the first creative exercise new pixel jockeys do, after cut-outs and colour conversion. And while it can be a quick process to seamlessly blend a multitude of images together, there is a real knack to using them to build up a creative landscape.

For this tutorial, I am going to create an urban-looking piece that will combine elements so it captures both the gritty nature of the urban environment, as well as elegance of the model. The masterclass will kick off with a few skin retouches, and then move onto the halo effects, which are a lot easier to create than they look, and great fun to do.

It allows you to pick and choose from the distinctive motifs, patterns and colours of an age, but the way in which you combine them is entirely up to you.

Photoshop can help you make great images, but the images can sometimes look a bit too clean and manufactured. This tutorial will show you how to incorporate some gritty textures and get a little dirty.

This tutorial covers some methods of how to texture images in Photoshop with custom brushes and layer styles, and also looks a little at light sources and composition, which will really boost your creative artwork.

Traffic lights are everywhere aren???t they? No matter where you go, or how deserted the place is, the ubiquitous evil devices make their presence known, and for David Cousens, they always seem to stop him when there???s nobody else on the road!

Digital artist Ian Keltie reveals how to composite elements in Photoshop and create a poster that deploys stencilled art to promote your message.

But by layering and blending images in Photoshop, you can evoke the trippy look without messing with your mind.

Since the birth of cinema, movie- makers have created stunning special effects by combining still matte paintings with live-action film. Matte painting techniques were once closely guarded secrets that never left the big studios.

Since it was first calculated with any degree of precision in Greek times, the ratio has been applied over the centuries by creatives ranging from architects to bookbinders.

Our world is filled with patterns ??? from ripples in a sand dune and scales on a snake to furniture and fashion ??? and even the tiling photos of sleeping cats that flood the background of some of the folksier blogs.

Sometimes the weather just won???t cooperate when you???re after a certain mood for your photos ??? but that doesn???t have to be a disaster. Photoshop has plenty of tools to help you tinker with your images and get the effect you need ??? even when that means manipulating the weather.

In this tutorial we will be recreating one of my existing artworks, entitled Stress City, but when creating your own piece, always plan your illustration first regardless of its final complexity. I usually start by first creating a sketch in my art book, figuring out where different elements go before beginning the computer work.

This dark to light method is different from what I usually do. Normally, I start my paintings with a middle-toned background and paint in the shadows (darker areas) first, then the lighter ones.

This Photoshop and Wacom Tablet tutorial originally published in the Digital Fantasy Painting Workshop book by Ilex Press, explains how I created the Howling digital painting illustration. The image features an angry demon ripping the heart off his victim's chest (beware: nudity). The tutorials provides detailed instructions on the Photoshop brush settings I used to paint the image. This tutorial explains, in particular, how to quickly achieve flesh tones using Adjustment layers.

In this walkthrough I explain how I used Photoshop and a Wacom Tablet to paint a character from the new videogame Bioshock for GamePro Magazine. This walkthrough gives you an overview on how to use textures in a digital painting. Enjoy!
