Photoshop Tutorials » Textures » Seamless

I was recently notified of a really cool website that has some free, top-notch seamless textures for free download. You can find these textures at All Things Designed. The maker of these textures claims to have been working in the texture industry for years, so you can trust that these are a pretty sweet deal

To begin, you need to have a perfectly square texture image that you want to make seamless. You can download the one I use for this tutorial here > Bronze Texture.

4. Draw some more flower or whatever you were drawing in the empty place in the middle. This is it. See this image as a background in this page.

Now offset the texture (Filter > Other > Offset) so that you can see a seam in about the middle of the image. In this case I am using an offset of about 200. Make sure wrap around is selected.

Open up the photo or image that you'd like to create a seamless tile background with. If you'd like to use the same flower image that was used for this tutorial, simply open the flower.jpg file found in the download pack for this tutorial.

The techniques shown in this tutorial are used by professional photoshoppers who design textures for website backgrounds, desktop backgrounds, and general patterns.

This tutorial will teach you how to take a texture and make it seamless so you can tile them side to side and top to bottom without one single seam showing. Let's get started, shall we?

this is really good it is much easyier when it is explained like this thanks just tried it with a material texture layer and it works really well now to go and play some more thank you.

In the glory days of Windows v3.1, seamlessly tiling textures were definitely the way forward in desktop wallpapers. They consumed very little memory, were visually appealing, and caused negligible system slowdown. Of course, much has changed since then, with high-resolution wallpapers now the standard for nearly everyone. That does not mean, of course, that seamless textures have been consigned to the junk pile. They are now more useful than ever, valuable for webpage backgrounds, 3D texture mapping, and many other professional applications. Luckily for designers, they are also easy to make, providing you have the required patience and know the techniques necessary to make them. Note: This is an advanced method for making seamlessly tiling textures. If you are a newbie in Photoshop and can get away with it, the more traditional method may be for you. If, however, you need more precise control or your texture is troublesomely complex, then read on!
