I use the Brush Tool on a regular basis and have done so for the past 10 years to reconstruct any part of an image that cannot be easily repaired via the Clone/Stamp Tool or by using copy(Ctrl C), paste(Ctrl V) and Transform (Ctrl T). When so much of an image has been lost and options are thin on the ground, using the Brush Tool is still a viable alternative.

[34]-See below for Final Photoshop Output.I hope this is a good tutorial & u can use these Photoshop Techniques in your Graphics Design Project

In Elements 1, the burn tool was hidden under the dodge tool in the toolbox. To find it, click on the dodge tool icon (the one that looks like a black lollipop) and hold the mouse button down. Choose the tool you want from the pop-up menu. [The burn tool is out on its own in Elements 2.]

Tip: The Photoshop shortcut for baseline shift works in Elements. Use Ctrl-Shift-Alt-Up Arrow to shift the baseline of selected text up ten pixels. Use Ctrl-Shift-Alt-Down Arrow to shift the baseline of selected text down ten pixels

Please note that the custom shape tool, the line tool, and the shape select tool all have their own pages. The shape tools are all grouped under the rectangular shape tool icon in the tool bar. To access the others, click on the one which is showing (the last one used will be visible in the toolbar). Choose the one you want from the pop-up menu.

The intersection buttons, in the middle of the options bar determine what happens when you draw a new shape on the same layer as an existing shape. They are (as shown above) 1) New Shape (no interaction), 2) Add to Shape, 3) Subtract from Shape, 4) Intersect Shape (only overlapping areas will remain), and 5) Exclude Overlapping (overlaps will be deleted leaving the nonintersecting areas intact). Select the appropriate button before you draw a new shape. After you?ve drawn two shapes on the same layer, you can switch the intersection state by first selecting one of the shapes with the shape selection tool (the black arrow) and then clicking on any of the buttons (1-5) shown above.

To use the blur tool, select it in the toolbar, set desired values and settings in its options palette [see below], choose a brush from the pop-up palette in the options bar, and then drag in the image over the area you wish to soften. Be aware that blurring occurs even when the cursor is not moving, as long as the mouse button is held down. The speed of the effect is determined by the Strength setting in the tool?s options bar.

Note - if your Alt key does not appear to be working in Elements, you may have another program running in the background that has taken over that key. GuruNet (Atomica) and FlySwat are two such applications. Uninstall them, or reassign the hot key in those programs to regain use of the Alt key in Elements.

Please note that all descriptions, and illustrations featured refer to files which are in Photoshop?s .psd format, and which are in RGB color mode. Other file formats, and color modes may generate different options. Some Photoshop features are not available for images not in .psd format, or RGB color mode. To find what color mode your image is in, choose Image > Mode.

Note - if your Alt key does not appear to be working in Elements, you may have another program running in the background that has taken over that key. GuruNet (Atomica) and FlySwat are two such applications. Uninstall them, or reassign the hot key in those programs to regain use of the Alt key in Elements.

Please note - If you double click on the little blue band at the very top of the toolbar, it will collapse to show only that blue band and the Adobe eye icon. To reopen the toolbar, double click again on the blue band (not the Adobe icon). Some Elements users have had difficulty figuring out what happened to their toolbar.

By default, the Tool Presets palette, which includes the pop-up version, shows all the tool presets. This can make it difficult to quickly select, say, a preset Rectangular Marquee tool from the crowd. Fear not! At the bottom of the palettes is an option to show presets for only the currently selected tool (Figure 3-40). Appropriately enough, it?s called Current Tool Only. If you have an aversion to pressing buttons, you can choose Show Current Tool Presets from the palette menu.

With Photoshop 5.5, you can easily create type that goes up and down the page as well as left to right. Hold the mouse button on the 'T' type tool in the palette, and select the 'T' with the downward arrow next to it (the Vertical Type tool). Then click in your document to add some type. The Vertical Type Tool's dialog is similar to the standard Type Tool's, except the alignment buttons work top-to-bottom rather than left-to-right, and you can't underline. Also, you can rotate the letters themselves through 90 degrees by clicking the Rotate checkbox. Cool! :)

7. With your move tool selected, Click the Align Vertical Centers button on the move tool options bar. This will put that all at the same place vertically, say at 5 pixels from either edge. Since all the circles are the same size we could have chosen align Top or bottom also to get the same results.Different size circles or images would give difference results on these three options.

Using the Patch Tool, larger areas can be replaced and repaired with a good portion of an image. As with the Healing Brush, automatic sampling of the texture and lighting improves the merging.

T I P You can use the quick-key combo of Shift+G, to cycle through these two fill tools, until you get the one you want in the Toolbar. And you can do this for any of the tools in the ToolBar too; except each of the tool types has it's own letter, so you'd use that, instead of G. Remember that!

8 Use the keyboard to temporarily select the zoom-in tool by holding down spacebar+Ctrl (Windows) or spacebar+Command (Mac OS). Click to zoom in on an area of the image, and then release the keys.

The toolbox contains selection tools, painting and editing tools, foreground- and background-color selection boxes, and viewing tools. This section introduces the toolbox and shows you how to select tools. As you work through the lessons, you'll learn more about each tool's specific function.

If you just want to do basic image manipulation, i can say these free tools is good enough for you to try

Lets start off with the tool palette itself. It should open automatically when Photoshop is launched. If for some reason it is not open, you can access it by going to ???Window??? in the main menu and selecting ???Tools???.

Dann erscheinen im Men?? Filter oder Effekte ein oder mehrere neue Eintr??ge. In unserem Fall hei??en die neuen Men??punkte SimpelFilter und SF Analyse.

Screen capturing tools do what the basic tool don't. What these tools could do varies, including the ability to include sketches and text, instantly upload image online, audio capturing, dimension-specific capturing and more. Make your screen capture and sharing experience more interesting, here's a showcase of 40+ Free Screen Capturing Tools and Related Techniques. Full list after jump.

This photoshop tutorial will show you how to use Photoshop CS2's Red Eye tool in a non-destructive way. The technique that I will explain is unique because as far as I know it hasn't been discussed in any book/magazine or on any web site.

I was determined to find an a use for the Flare Tool in Illustrator (why is it there, anyway?). Here is what I came up with.

The Options Bar (and prior to Photoshop 6, the Options palette) gives us the capability of customizing a tool for a specific purpose. We can set the size of a crop, pick a font for the Type tool, choose feathering for a selection tool, and much more. In Photoshop 7, you can actually save those sets of options as Tool Presets. In effect, you're creating a whole set of customized variations of a single tool.

We want the basic, 'Horizontal Type Tool'. The Mask tools are used for more advanced text effects, they basically create selections rather than text itself. I'll get into more on the mask tools on another tut. How Do You Use It??Well basically just draw with it (it makes a box as you drag it across your image) where you want your text to be, and then you can type. If you go to your character palette, you can choose your font and size and such, or u can do the same at the top menu thing. Text General okay well there's a few guidelines when it comes to text... don't use any type of font that's super hard to read opposites look nice :) ex. blue background, orange text. white text with a black stroke pretty much looks good on anything :) use fonts according to your image style (don't use some real crazy font on a sig with two circles on it) Placement of text where you should put your text is kind of hard to explain. it depends on the image you have made. sometimes typo(typography, aka text. this is what i will be calling it from now on) looks very nice when you put it in/near the focal point (area of image which draws most attention). Other times, it looks good off in no man's land. i recommend trying the focal point first, but if it doesn't look good there, just fool around and see where it looks best. on things like signatures, i usually put my typo in one of the corners. Other Stuff Okay well here's a few things you can do with typo. The first is called Anti-Aliasing. This is what changes the roughness/smoothness of the edges of your typo. of course, setting anti-aliasing on none will make the edges really rough, and putting it on smooth will make them, well, smooth. As you can see the anti-aliasing options can be accessed in two different places, on the character palette, and on the top. Text Effects Go to Layer> Layer Style, and u can choose a whole bunch of effects. stroke is most commonly used, it makes a border around the object (in our case, our typo). drop shadow makes a shadow underneath it, and well glow is self-explanatory. Okay! fool around with these :) and you'll be on your way to cool text.

Photoshop's improved Options Bar includes the capability to save tool presets. This is a great way to speed your work with the Type tool. If you regularly use certain fonts at certain sizes, they can be saved as presets in the Tool Presets Picker at the left end of the Options Bar. Once you've saved a preset, you can set the Type tool to use those options by simply selecting the configuration from the Tool Presets palette.

In this video tutorial you'll learn how to use the color range tool to quickly make precise selections of objects based on their color or tonal value.

This tutorial is not ment to teach you how to design a gameboy but it is ment to teach you how to design using the prespective tool.

7. Now to fill the layer with the color code # 940000, go to the toolbar and click on the 2 square shape icon

53. Select Rectangular Marquee Tool > Right click > select Stroke > in the Stroke select width-1px color #5B4125 / Location- Center click ok.

Press OK, and some text, and voil'! Pixel fonts seem to compliment these the best. I hope you've enjoined this tutorial and thanks for reading.

2. Since the image map tools are going to be used frequently throughout this tutorial, create a breakaway menu of all the image map tools. To do this, click and hold on the image map tool (It's below the lasso tool.) and select the small arrow. A new menu will be created. Drag the menu anywhere on your screen for easy access.

First off all you have to take 3 pictures using your digital camera and having selected the panoramic photo function.Open the using photoshop.

In the options bar, you will see a couple of radial buttons that allow you to set the patch selection you are about to make as the source or destination. Let's set it to source for this run.

Note that the slower you move your tool, the more paint you put on the image. The paint flows even if you simply hold down your mouse key without moving the tool (movie).

Convert Point Tool edits existing vector shape masks and paths (shape outlines) converting smooth anchor points and corner anchor points to each other:

* Either use Shape gadget on the Options bar or right-click on the image (animation). To load more shapes click button on the Custom Shape picker.. ** To change color while creating shape layers, switch off gadget on the Options bar first.

For a more subtle blur you can lower the strength. Here you can see the effect of the blur. Make sure you experiment around with it so you get comfortable with the tool and settings.

The upper right quadrant shows the angle and distance of the measurement. Perhaps this lesson is best saved for the upcoming AdvancedPhotoshop.com but it's good for you to know.

You can press 'clear all' to delete all of the current notations. If you don't delete your notes, they will be saved with all formats that allow you to save annotations (.psd's, .tiff and .pdf are the only formats).

Here with the patch tool on destination, I can drag a portion of the forehead to the cheekbone (for example purposes).

2. Now create a new document size 291x323 pixel or as you like now create a new shape with Pen tool.

11. Now select Gradient Tool first click on the box which is shown with no1 circle for linear gradient then click on the circle no2.

In the layer window press the button that says: create new fill/adjustments layer. from there choose "levels" Alternatively you can open up the Levels Adjustment Tool from by pressing CTRL + L

You could say that you can straighten an image without using the measure tool by going to the menu I just explained and enter a value, but then it's still guessing and your image will never be 100% straight. If you use the Measure tool, Photoshop will calculate the exact value needed to straighten your image. Yes, I know, another Buffy image, but then again, look at her for Christ' sake!

The Patch Tool retouches image using sampled pixels or pattern*. It works as a combination of the Healing Brush with the Lasso Tool:

In this photoshop video tutorial learn how to use the quickmask took. Quick mark is used to select part of a photo and make modifications to it.

This is used mostly for building websites, or splitting up one image into smaller ones when saving out. It's kind of an advanced tool, and since you're in here for the basics, we'll kind of skip over it. Kinda makes you mad I made you read all that for nothing, huh?

? Dock to Palette Well--When the monitor is set to a screen resolution of over 800x600 pixels, the Palette Well is found at the right end of the Options Bar. Palettes placed in the well are easily accessible, yet out of the way. ? New Tool Preset/Rename Tool Preset/Delete Tool Preset--These three commands duplicate things that can be done directly in the palette. At the bottom of the palette are buttons that allow you to create a new preset (left) and delete a selected preset (right). To rename a preset, simply double-click its name in the palette and type. ? Sort By Tool--When a checkmark appears next to this command and the palette is not set to Current Tool Only, the presets will be grouped according to tool. When unchecked, new tool presets are added to the bottom of the palette. ? Show All Tool Presets/Show Current Tool Presets--This pair of commands duplicates the checkbox in the bottom-left corner of the palette. One or the other will have a checkmark to the left, indicating the current content of the palette (which is also rather apparent from looking at the content of the palette.) ? Text Only/Small List/ Large List--You can change the appearance of the content of the palette by selecting one of these three commands. ? Reset Tool/Reset All Tools--Resetting the selected tool or all of the tools returns it or them to their default values. These commands have no effect on saved presets. ? Preset Manager--Photoshop's Preset Manager is used to determine what content will be loaded into which palettes at startup. It can also be opened through the Edit menu. ? Reset/Load/Save/Replace Tool Presets--Like several other palettes, the content of the Tool Presets palette can be saved. Set it up how you want it, then use the palette menu command Save Tool Presets. At any time later, you can use the Load Tool Presets to restore the settings. You can also rest the palette to its default content, and replace the existing content with any saved set of presets. ? At the bottom of the Tool Presets palette menu you'll find all sets of presets saved in the folder Presets, Tools folder. This list isn't updated until you quit and restart Photoshop.

Discover a new way to make selections in Photoshop CS3. Use the Quick Select tool, and then easily modify the selection with the new Refine Edge feature.

In this example we have a photograph from Flickr by steve.wild. We are going to assume that we want to change the colours of the doors. With the Quick Selection Tool it is simple.

Indexing an image can be tough business. You often have to play with all available settings to achieve satisfactory results - and sometimes that may not even be enough. For example, when indexing an image containing a high color count (or when trying to force an image to use less than 256 colors for the sake of file size), bad dithering patterns / colors may result. So, what does all this have to do with selections? Well, if you use (any of) the selection tools to select / isolate problematic colors, Photoshop will favour / consider these colors while choosing the palette.

The reasons behind sharing these features of Adobe Photoshop with you are because they can create some very nice looking text and logos. For example:

7. Think of the brush as a sort of magic wand tool, that erases selections based on the colour it clicks on. The more a colour is present under the "radius" of the brush, the more photoshop will think it is the background colour, and erase it.

The next four tools in the menu are pretty common, and simple tools. The aligns the text to the left. The aligns the text to the middle. The aligns the text to the right. The lets you choose the font color you desire.

Both the Horizontal and Vertical Type tools create type layers when used. Unless you rasterized the type, and as long as the file remains in Photoshop's native format (.psd) or the Tiff format with layers (using the so-called "advanced" Tiff options), the type remains editable. You can change the font, size, or other attributes as well as change the content of the text. You can click with either tool anywhere in an image window to create a new type layer and add point type. You can also drag with either tool to create a type layer and add paragraph type.

Then with the type layer still selected goto "filter > distort > displace" use the preset settings then click ok. When you click ok you should then get another window pop up, select the whatever.psd image you saved in step 1. This is how mine looks at this point.

This may not a big revealation to some, but it certainly opens doors for creative type effects that allows the use of filters..

Point Type: With the 'Type Tool (T)' active on the Toolbar, click anywhere on your document to indicate the insertion point of your text. Type in the text or paste it from the clipboard, and hit 'Ctrl + Enter' on the main keyboard (Mac: Command + Return) to commit it.

If you plan to create a web page with glass effects, the best looking effect is the magnifying glass effect, because it looks like rounded pieces of glass floating over text. This tutorial will present you a nice toolbar created with this effect, but the techniques presented here can be used for buttons and other controls too. This assumes you master basic "Filters" and layer "Blending Options".

The Drawing and Type tools are used to create vector graphics, as well as set type inside of documents. While Photoshop is not really considered a vector graphic editor, it is possible to create vector based shapes and elements that can be resized without losing quality!

@ Zapox - My intents at this point are to teach what I consider to be the most important or essential tools. I hope to cover all of Photoshop's tools eventually, and understand that some tools may be essential in certain cases, but I don't think people would gain as much from this series if I spent to much time covering ALL of the details at once

The marquee tools are used to make rectangular, elliptical, horizontal and vertical line selections. To create a selection with a marquee tool, simple hold down your mouse button over the active image area, and drag out your shape.

When you "define brush" what you just did was create a new brush that can be used and selected from your brush box.

1. Open a new image, press Ctrl + J 2 times to "trilicate" this layer. Here we use a texture to make a complicated background

When creating an XHTML document, one of the most important things to do first, is specify a Doctype. There are alot of (X)HTML Doctypes (22 to be exact) but the most common are HTML 4.01 Strict, HTML 4.01 Transitional, and XHTML 1.0 Strict. Each Doctype has their respective W3C specifications, but they are also defined in a machine-readable language specifying the legal structure, elements and attributes of a type of HTML.

Thanks for the video i enjoyed it, even thou there pretty simple and i wouldn't say there Photoshop Secrets cause there's way more harder stuff to learn. Overal great Tutorial and i learned a few new shortcuts that may be helpfull.

I only used the patch tool to fix the whole thing. In an actual photograph that I would need to fix I would have used all the tools available to me including the paint brush and clone tools. Since this was a patch tool guide I only used one tool. Much better results can be attained if you use all the appropriate tools. Thats the cool thing about photoshop you have tons of useful tools at your disposal and you must mix and match them to optimum results.

Scenario: Using Adobe Photoshop, you wish to select and copy Aunty Edith from one photograph and paste her into another. Which selection tool do you use? I have been asked this question so many times. My suggestions are usually rejected followed by 'Well, I prefer to use the Magnetic Lasso and that's that! Look, it works by pure magnetic magic!' - Mmmm. Preferences toward any given selection method may vary, but I can only draw from my own experience as an Adobe Photoshop specialist and University lecturer in its uses. If I were to sum up with one word why Adobe Photoshop is the best of the best, I'd put it all down to 'Control'. You must be in control of your selection, not your selection in control of you. Who's in control then? If your preferred selection method delivers the highest levels of control to you (the digital De Vinci), continue to use it. However, if you absolutely depend on 'one-click-wonder' solutions, you will fall short of becoming a pro. Sure, taking the odd shortcut here and there doesn't harm anyone, but having as much control over Adobe Photoshop as you can manage will pay off. The narrow path Out of all of the selection tools currently available within Adobe Photoshop, the most useful for general and precise selecting has to be the Polygonal Lasso. It will not fill an area with a selection, nor will it trace the outlines of a shape. What it will do is deliver perfect control. Cracking the whip over the Polygonal Lasso In the past, some of my students have expressed some apprehension over using this tool due to the 'sticky-dart-around-the-screen' habit it seems to display. Let me make one thing clear - there really is nothing to be afraid of with this tool. If used correctly, the Polygonal Lasso will behave itself and, in the long run, save you masses of time and yield perfect selections. Guide Points Just follow these guide points and you will be creating perfect selections in no-time. Get comfortable (by this I don't mean fluff up the cushions) - ensure that there are no palettes obscuring your image. Move them aside, minimise them or hit the Tab key (toggle) to hide them. Zoom in - I tend to go in at a factor of between 100-200%. Use CTRL+ and CTRL -. Do this before you start your selection. Take you time - Don't rush, speed will come with practice. Develop a confident rhythm of clicks first before galloping away with yourself. Don't become too click-happy - If you click too quickly (constituting a double-click), you'll will close...

The quick selection tool can be used to quickly select a defined area of a Adobe Photoshop CS3 image based on color pixels. In this video tutorial, you will learn how to use the quick selection tool in Photoshop CS3.

Intro to the Patch Tool The patch tool operates on a premise similar to the clone tool, but with patch you can actually make a selection of an area to use as your patch, and drag it to the area to be corrected. When you make your selection you can then adjust the feather and so forth to blend the edges a bit more seamlessly, and the patch automatically adjusts the lighting/shading for the best match of the area being fixed. Ok, enough techno talk. What can this thing really do? To start, let's open a picture of many faces. Here's one of 3 ladies? let's see if we can't create triplets. Select the Patch Tool from the toolbar. In the options bar, you will see a couple of radial buttons that allow you to set the patch selection you are about to make as the source or destination. Let's set it to source for this run. Pick a face, any face. Draw your selection around the perimeter. Now go to Select>Feather, and put in a setting of 2 or so. You should now have a selection around the area you want to patch.. Now this part may seem a bit confusing? it was for this old man anyway. Though we set it to source, what actually happens is we drag the selection to another face, and the face we dragged it to is pasted into the original selection. Now when we choose ?destination' and drag the selection, the face in the selection is pasted to the new area: Looky there? Triplets!

I decided to start at the beginning. The very beginning. For those people who just picked up a copy of Photoshop and have no idea what to do with it. The keyboard shortcut is in ( ).

First, put all the files you want in your slideshow into one folder (they don't have to be, it's just easier that way). Open the File Browser window in Photoshop by clicking the icon in your Option bar or [Window > File Browser].

Great Tutorial, as usual.

Move Tool It is used for moving the selected area of an image or the entire area if nothing is selected. Use this tool to, well, move things. Usually you use it to move a Layer around after it has been placed. Hold the [Shift] key to limit the movements to vertical/horizontal. Shortcut key to Select the move tool from the Tool Bar by pressing "V"

To start, the best thing to do is having a good sketch on paper; the size of the drawing doesn’t have to be very big because we will delete it at the end, but also it doesn’t have to be very small. Let’s scan it at 150-300 dots per inches (dpi from now on) to make sure that when we zoom we can clearly see the lines to work properly.

Because we just changed the style/color in the previous section, go ahead and reset the style to No Style. The style that shows a line through it is the No Style. Left click on this option and then Left click off of this style box. Feel free to change your color. On this example, I have changed it to a black. Now move the Rectangle Tool to the canvas and hold your Left mouse button and drag the rectangle. Release the Left mouse button.

In these lessons, we will design the following masthead using Photoshop..

So now on to the fundamental questions; what is the patch tool, and what can it be used for? The patch tool works similar to the clone stamp tool, where you're able to sample an area of an image and apply it on top of the area you'd like to 'correct'.
