Using the Pen Tool (P), represent a shape, colored with #89D5ED. The shape may be corrected with the Convert Point Tool. The line's layer must be placed lower than the girl's layer and the flowers' one (on the layers' panel):

Press on Delete button. Choose after that a brush of black color with blurred edges and a faint Opacity to dark out a little the edges of X symbol.

This tutorial will show you a simple method to create an effecive wallpaper that you can use for your desktop or for any sort of web background.

Adjust the size of the brush to however you feel. After doing this make a nice smooth wavy brush mark on your canvas. Might take a couple tries to get the spiral you want. If the brush stroke doesn't look good press Ctrl+Z to undo and try again!

Selecting the previous instrument, it's possible to draw also a train on the star, like the dress has, the way it is demonstrated below.

Copy out two bubbles of any group to place them like in the picture and apply also the Free Transform option to adjust the sizes.

Now we should select the Ellipse Tool (U) to represent the clouds for the picture (it means drawing several circles on the same layer), pressing SHIFT simultaneously.

This tutorial is a very quick and simple guide on how to create your own desktop background, it's easy to follow and understand and the outcome looks quite good for the simplicity of the design,

"My idea behind this wallpaper is that the new year brings in a clean slate for everyone! As midnight hits, we all enter January with new goals, dreams, and high hopes for a blessed year! Everything from the previous year can slowly be forgotten as we forge a new year in our life! This wallpaper was also designed with the focal point of the desktop in mind. Both PC and Mac users align their icons on the left or right side. Having the text and calendar in the middle would have it stay away from all the clutter of a desktop!" Designed by Anthony Nguyen from USA.

Desktop wallpapers can serve as an excellent source of inspiration. However, if you use some specific wallpaper for a long period of time, it becomes harder to draw inspiration out of it. That's why we have decided to supply you with smashing wallpapers over 12 months.

I really like your tutorial, but for some reason, I can't access the Layer Mask option when I select 2 layers. Did I forget to do something?

Meh, these are some really good-looking wallpapers, but I think the big, prominent Smashing Magazine logo ruins them. I don't want a huge ad on my desktop. What about a subtle text link in one corner that says http://smashingmagazine.com instead?

One small suggestion. It would have been great if the calendars were designed so that the dates were on the right hand side. Few of them have that but the one's I like have their dates on the left hand side. When you design an informative desktop wallpaper then the thumbrule should be to put information on an area which is not covered by the desktop icons. As the desktop icons are placed on the left hand side of the screen by default. In any case, great work and I really enjoy Smashing Magazine.

I was playing around with some ideas for a desktop for my personal laptop to use as branding for myself. Designed by Simon | Project5 from South Africa.

This version of a monthly calendar is about GTD (Getting things dropped) on your desktop: you can use the calendar to drag all the files on your desktop to certain days, when you expect to (hopefully) be working on them. If you didn't make it - no prob - just drag them to the next day! For the time after August 2008, you can use the wallpaper for weekly getting things dragged and dropped on your desktop. It's easy - and I hope it's efficient. Designed by Michael Schmidt from Austria.

In Kansas City there is a good old Christmas tradition - to decorate the city square known as the Plaza with festive lights. The author of the tutorial shows us how he made desktop wallpaper out of a picture he had taken at the Plaza several years ago.

This tutorial will show you how to take a photograph off of the web, even if the quality is not high and turn it into a quality computer desktop wallpaper to use or distribute.
