So, to begin the animation, select the original 'EXPLODE' layer and hide all the others. Then hit the 'Jump to ImageReady' button on the ToolBar.

With the lightthrough layer selected, apply a radial blur at full strength. Filter>Blur>Radial Blur Zoom mode at "100", best quality. Repeat the radial blur "2-5" times. Duplicate the layer to further pronounce the light through the holes of the text blast effect.

Create a 500x500 black background document. Type your text in the middle with large enough font to leave some black near the edges. Be sure to have the text set to white. Merge the two layers together (Image Menu > Flatten Image) and set a Gaussian Blur filter (Filters Menu > Blur) to 6 pixels.

And there you have it: exploding text. I hope you enjoyed it at least as much as I did making it. If you've got any thoughts, comments or critiques please do leave a comment - I love to hear from you. If you happen to have an idea for one of my next tutorials, don't be shy, let me know and if it's interesting enough I will try to make it happen for you.
