@Magnus: First off thanks! To answer your question, yes, the text would be merged with the black background, but you will still be able to add it to another image. Merge all the layers from this tutorial, then copy the new layer to the other image you are working on. Then add a layer mask to your flaming text layer and set the Mode to Screen. The only drawback will be that the background needs to be somewhat dark. Hope that helps

1. Create new file with 72 PPI and white background. The mode has to be Grayscale. Type the text with thick font.

I'm going to learn you how to make a nice effect to your text here. Instead of your old boring text we're going to make it look like flames.

17. Zoom in to about 250%, then click and drag on the vertical bar going across the top, and drag directly to the top of the text, use this picture as a guide to how to do it:

12. Click Layer > New layer. hold CTRL and click the thumbnail of the previous layer. (our example, ours would be "flame")

Press D key to choose your foreground colour as Black. And then Finally press Shift+Alt+Backspace to fill your text with black colour. Done!

Now take one of the text layers and color it black. Then drag the layers into the proper order so you get an image like the one below.

This tutorial is going to teach you how to create a blazing flame text effect in Photoshop using the Smudge Tool and multiple filters such as Wave Distort and various Blur operations. The grayscale text is colored using the Indexed Image Mode's, Black Body, and color table. Your final results will look something like this.
