I revamped the old Pen-Tool tutorial, because it was missing some explanation. Also I found it may be a bit hard for some people. Right now I have explained EVERYTHING about the different pen-tools and did this at a level, even people who are new to photoshop can understand!

The Pen Tool can be a hard and frustrating thing to learn. I didn't have any problems with learning how to use it, but that differs from person to person how fast they learn to use it.

The pen tool allows you to create your own custom shapes in the form of a work path. If you are familiar with Adobe Illustrator, you will have an easier time 'grasping' the pen tool (no pun intended). Paths are mathematical calculations which Photoshop remembers that don't take up much disk space. Once you create a path from the pen tool (or shapes tools), you can do different things to it.

Make a new layer and get out your pencil tool, now make a small line with a nice bright color. I will use pink!

If a line isn't as good as what you want it to be, no problem, the Pen Tool is very forgiving.

Learn how to use the Pen Tool in Adobe Photoshop to create some cool Pumpkin Cutouts! You could even trace these later on paper, and use them as free pumpkin cutouts for your own designs on Halloween! Have Fun!

Step 21 Now you can right click (with the pen tool selected, of course) and choose Define Custom Shape. Now I have my own Protoss shape to use whenever, and however I like -- even to create my own terrible protoss army, a silhouette of fear stalking in the night MWAHAHA!

Make a new layer above your sketch , name it "line" zoom to 200 to 500 %.Get the pen tool again , go over your lines using the techniques shown above.

4. Remember this Shape is edit able at anytime, meaning as long as the Anchor Points remain, I can use the 'Add Anchor Point Tool, Delete Anchor Point Tool or Convert Point Tool' to redefine the Shape the way I see fit.

This lesson I'll tell you how to use the Pen Tool. This unique instrument gives us the possibility to represent vector images, which don't rasterize, but we can change their sizes and still remain images of high quality. The corresponding button for the Pen Tool is P button.

First, we will look at the pen tool's basic controls. We will examine creating paths, curvature modification and anchor point adjustments.

Now you know the basics of the pen tool. This and all other tools are covered in practical examples & tutorials in the Basic Photoshop video training program. If you want you can right click and do a layer via copy to put this selection onto its own layer. Paths take up much less space (than a pixel layer) if you are willing to get comfortable working with them.

As you may know when it comes to wavy things it is quite difficult to create them in Photoshop, except with Pen tool of course. In this tutorial you will learn how to use Pen tool to create a simple wave image.

Although there are a number of sub-tool-types for this item, we will be focusing on the basic Pen Tool which is accessed under the icon shown above on your PS tool bar. Choose it by clicking on the icon, or for bonus points use the keyboard shortcut by pressing "P" to select it.

The Pen Tool can be one of the best Tools in Photoshop, if you learn how to master it. Here I will give you a quick crash-course to the Pen Tool.

Select the pen tool(1) and click on the paths tab(if it is open, otherwise open the Paths palette by choosing window/show paths).

Again on a new layer, with the Pen Tool click to create your two Anchor Points, then use the Convert Point Tool to create a curve.

Rightclick Pen Tool in the Tool-menu and pick Convert Point Tool. Pull to the right side in the central point with Convert Point Tool. Then the point will get a nice and smooth edge.

Then do the same. Pick the pen tool again and right click then "strock path" on a new layer you'll get this:

Now pick Pen tool (P) and start drawing around object you want to isolate. You zoom in and try to draw lines as near as possible to the object. Make sure that you work on "front" layer.

Okay, this week I am going to show you the basics of the Pen Tool. As a Photoshop Artist, I am asked to explain the Pen Tool more than anything else. I will show you how to create a neat little star using it. It requires a great deal of patience, as we will be using very specific coordinates to gain a perfect star. I would set this tutorial at a Beginner's Level, but one with a great deal of patience. First, we begin by starting a new image, 640x480 with a white background - and then turn on the Grid Option (Control + ").

Below you can see 3 different things I created with the Pen-Tool! Good luck and I hope you will enjoy this tool as much as I do!

Some people find the pen tool to be a fairly hard tool to use. In this tutorial I am going to show you some of the tips+tricks to using the pen tool, as this tool plays an important part in creating images.

In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to use the Pen tool in Photoshop to create your own custom shapes. I'll take you through a series of exercises that will guide you through the basic, essential functions of the Pen tool.

Clear and useful tutorial Doug. I think this will help the beginners to understand better of how to use pen tool. I use Adobe Illustrator to draw graphics, since it is difficult for me to control the path with pen tool :P By reading this tutorial, I wish I can create better and smooth path using Photoshop.

This is a double-wammy tutorial, learning twice as much! I'll be teaching you about the pen tool while creating a cool header. Lets get started then.

In this tutorial you will learn how to manipulate a Photoshop shape by using some basic principles of the pen tool. We will cover adding and moving reflex points on a shape and how if used right can create a very attractive curved navigation bar for your website.

As you may know when it comes to wavy things it is quite difficult to create them in Photoshop, except with Pen tool of course. In this tutorial you will learn how to use Pen tool to create a simple wave image.

Although the pen tool is intrinsic to illustration applications such as Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand, it is not the most intuitive tool for Photoshop bornandbred artists. The familiar, fluid selection and painting tools don't apply. I hope to shed some light on the Pen Tool and dispel some of the myth because this really is an industrial strength power tool. I'll admit that when I'm evaluating a fresheyed art school graduate who struggles to make a selection with the Magic Wand when the Pen Tool could do the job better in a fraction of the time, it just screams to me no realworld experience!. Get friendly with this tool.

This Photoshop tutorial will show you how to use the pen tool. You will learn the basic controls of the pen tool, how use the pen tool to cut out an image, and how to make custom shapes.-Melissa Clifton

In this tutorial we'll learn how to use pen tool and will create a cutout of an old man to knock out the background.

When it comes to making selections in Photoshop, there's really two types of people - those who know how to use the Pen Tool, and those who struggle.

On the picture you see the "Pen" tool selected. (hotkey p). The drop down menu will appear by left clicking and holding down your mouse a second. -The most upper tool is the "regular Pen tool". -The second tool is the "free transform Pen tool". This tool allows you to add selection to your current selection just by clicking, holding down and moving your mouse. -The third tool is the "Add anchor point tool" this tool adds another anchor point between two anchor points points. -The fourth tool is the "Delete anchor point tool" this tool deletes an anchor point. -The last tool is the "convert point tool" this tool allows to change the corners from one anchor point to another. Does this look confusing? No worries everything will become more clear in the tutorial.

3.If you don't want to work with many layers (that must be confuse), work with the shapes - witch has the same color - in the same layer, just mark the option "Add to Shape Area (+)". You have others options, to create a new shape, to subtract, to intersect and exclude overllaping shapes. As you have with the others tools on Photoshop. Sometimes, is useful to reduce the opacity, to see what you have under the shape.

Creating a Shape The shape on the left is a finished shape whilst the shaper on the right is not. I will explain the shape on the left using the right as a reference. First, select the pen tool from the tool palette on the left. When you left-click on your canvas you will see a dot. This is called an Anchor Point. (labeled as 1) It also consists of two more points called Control Points. After click to add a second anchor point if you where to click and drag, it automatically changes the control points to change the curve of the line. If you are still not happy with the curve of the line, hold alt + click on the control point on the INSIDE of the line, (labeled as 2) drag it to change the curve till your happy. The other control point, (Labeled as 3) controls the curve of the next portion of the line (yet to be drawn). Usually you don’t want to mess with this point. Sometimes it is necessary for making sharp turns in the line. You will also notice that I drew an arrow over to the Layers Palette. It is pointing at the new shape layer that was created automatically for the new “Blob? shape I created.

8. In this step, we can use "Add Anchor Point Tool" in any place we wanted to start first. a. So I'll gonna start first at the side-head of maori. b. Use “Add Anchor Point Tool? - Click the path where you wanted to drag to form a ‘line bend’ - just use 1 click to have a point c. Now click and HOLD the point area and stretch and drag to the edges of Maori. d. Now do the same thing with the other lines, click and drag. Until you form the shape of Maori

Open the image up in Photoshop and blow it up to 300%. Select the pen tool by hitting the (P) key. Follow around the edge of the circle by clicking with the mouse and setting anchor points.

Good thing about cutting images with a pen tool is that you can be very precise and you can save shapes from cut outs.

Note: Photoshop Pen tool works pretty much the same across Adobe product such as Illustrator and InDesign. If you're new to the Pen tool you may refer to comprehensive tutorial about Using Photoshop Pen tool at JoeUser.com. Or if you're in a hurry you might want to download the free quick reference chart in pdf at Creativetechs.com. The Adobe Pen Tool Cheatsheet, shown in thumbnail below, is complete reference for short-cut and how to create shape using Pen tool for all Adobe product not only Photoshop.

The Pen Tool You've all heard of it. some of you try to keep your distance... Thats not good. here, in this simple tutorial, you'll learn easily how to use the pen tool. These are all of the seven pen tools. The most important one is the actual pen tool. The first tool in the pen's drop down menu. This tool is used to create the anchor points for your path. Anchor points are the points that your lines/curves will be guided by. The curve of you line depends on the direction lines of your anchor points. But more on that later. Any active anchor point will be solid (or a filled in square), while non-active anchor points will be hollowed out (or an outline of a square). A closed path is a solid shape and an open path is a line/curve. The Freeform Pen tool. The second tool in the pen's drop down list. This is used to draw freely (freehand) were it's much like the lasso tool. I dont like to use this one mainly because i dont have a steady hand. So the outcome is worse. Add Anchor Point Tool. The third tool in the pens drop down menu. This tool is used to, of course, add anchor points to existing paths. If you hover over a path, your mouse pointer will automatically turn into this tool if you have the "auto add/delete" option checked. Delete Anchor Point Tool. 4th tool in this group of tools. This tool is to delete anchor points on paths. This will also automatically show when hovering over an anchor poiont if the auto add/delete option is checked. The Convert Point Tool. The last of the pen tools, thi is used to modify the curves on paths by editing the direction lines. To remove the curves of a line, just click on an anchor point with this tool. Next, are the Path Selection Tool and the Direct Seleciton Tool. Path Selection Tool. This tool is used to move full paths. Just click on the path to select it, and drag to move the path. Direct Selection Tool. Used to move line segments, anchor points, or entire paths like the Path selection tool. To move the anchor points or line segments, you must click on whatever it may be, and start dragging.

This tutorial is more for the beginners of Photoshop on how to use the pen tool and what you can do with it, although some more advanced with Photoshop may also find this useful, it is just a quick tutorial today as I am currently working on a new WordPress layout for this website so I am quite occupied with that, but I will still be doing tutorials every other day whilst I am doing this.

Step 1: Open your image in Photoshop, and get the pen tool(p). Step 2: Using the pen tool, make an anchor point anywhere on the pic where you plan on chopping it, by left clicking on the spot. Step 3: Make another anchor point where you plan on chopping again, in a spot above, beside, etc. to your last anchor point. Step 4:Now click somewhere on your line, to make an anchor point on the line. Then, holding down ctrl, drag it till it fits in place. You can make multiple anchor points on the line for precision fitting. Step 5: Continue the procedure until you've selected the entire thing, then right click and hit "make selection". Then you're done:D

But wait! I still hate that eye, so I go back one more time to fix it. Now is the time to fix anything you hate before coloring. As you can see, I'm a bit of a sloppy inker, but that's just part of my style: half-assed ;]

Hello welcome to this photo shop tutorial. Today I am going to be showing you some basic pen tools and vector techniques. Now admittedly this is not the most exciting tutorials and we are not going to be producing anything that you want to hang on to you want just yet but I do plan to get you familiar with the pen and vector tools which are really useful when it comes to producing much more exciting things. Uh I am going to be using these tools in several following tutorials. So if you are already use to working with vectors then this one is for you. Uh I want you to start by opening a new window, make it about seven hundred and fifty pixels where??? then I want you to go over to the tools pallet and select the pen tool, which is this one here. You???ll notice some options in the top of the screen here I want you to make sure that the shape layers and pen tool are both selected. Now make one single click somewhere in the middle of your window this will create uh new layer for the shape your about to draw.

I painted with light and came up with this ??? you can increase or decrease the effect with the exposure control on the top toolbar?????????I used 11% - change it and see what happens. Do the painting to the car only you need not touch the background.

In this Photoshop tutorial we shall give a detailed description how to draw a little monster licking lollipop. I created the foundation of our little monster pic in Photoshop, then I used pen tablet to draw the sketch and, finally, I've managed to make a full-fledged illustration.

In this tutorial, we take a look at the pen tool and how to use it, by following a technique called vector tracing. Vector tracing means you're tracing over an existing image (in our case a photograph of a pepper) with the pen tool. Vector tracing as we're using it, allows us to create a very realistic representation of the photograph we're tracing.

Recently, I have seen a new film about Batman. The movie impressed me so much, that I decided to draw the car, so called ???Bat-mobile??? :). This tutorial will give you a detailed explanation how to create an image of Bat-mobile. I used pen tablet to draw the sketch of Bat-mobile as well as in the previous tutorial called ???Little Monster Licking Lollipop???. You can also draw your sketch without pen tablet, but the process will last.

Create a new layer labelled "nib pt1 shine". Select the pen tool and create a line (shown in the image below) select a 2 pixle white brush then re-select the pen tool, right-click on the canvas and goto "stroke path". Add a layer mask then drag a linear gradient from the bottom towards the top.

A pen tablet is a computer input device that allows one to draw images and graphics using a pen in the same way we draw with a pen on a paper and is used by computer artists to create stunning digital artworks directly on the computer. This tutorial will teach you how to setup a newly purchased pen tablet using Windows Vista and then configure it to run well on Photoshop.

1. Accuracy. There is no way you are going to get the same level of control using the lasso tool or other selection methods. Using the pen tool enables you select partial pixels. This means that the edges of your selection will always be smooth (no jagged pixel edges). The pen tool literally puts transparency on the bit of the pixel that exists outside of the selection.

So, let's select the Pen Tool from the Toolbox. It's the button that looks like an old-fashioned Pen. Tool.

Create a new document 600400 pixels with any background color, create a new layer above your background layer called nib pt1? (nib part one). Select the polygonal lasso tool, firstly create a rectangle fill with the color black. Still with the polygonal lasso tool make a diagonal cut on the left chopping off the end of the rectangle.

September, 2007

Step 1 Firstly create a new document and fill the background with a light color and select the pen tool .You'll also need to check your pen settings, once selected they are located below the 'File', 'Edit' and 'Image' tabs.

If you fail(by releasing the mouse and didn`t have the wanted result),the command to get one step back is Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Alt+Z for more steps back.
