Select your rectangular marquee tool and set the marquee to the style option of fixed size at 750 wide and 20 pixel high. Click at the intersection of the top guide line and the left side of the canvas, placing the cursor crosshair right on the intersection. Select the paint bucket with foreground color set to hex #666699 and fill the selection.

7. There are solid bands of color that span from left to right, with under the menu bar stroke, and then above and below the copyright bar strokes. Slice these and set the Slice panel to show no image, but a BG color of NONE since we set the page as the same color background in the output settings.

Repeat this filter until you get a texture you like. Press Ctrl+F to repeat the last filter. We should have something like this:

Water is one of the hardest things to replicate, especially from scratch. This tutorial will show you how to recreate running water as if coming out of a tap.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create Duct Tape from scratch in Photoshop CS4. We will be using Filters and Layer Styles to recreate the look and feel of the tape.

If you've ever wanted to create a space explosion in Photoshop, then we have the tutorial for you. With the techniques learned in this tutorial, you can create explosions as seen in a Sci-Fi television series. Let's learn how to make this effect from scratch.

Now we'll create the last part of our guitar, which is the strings. Make a new layer name it "string." Take the Brush Tool with a diameter of 1px, and click just above the black part of the "Nut1" layer. Next Shift-click on the "NutTop" to form a line as shown below. Make five more lines similarly on the same layer. Apply a Gradient Overlay and a Drop Shadow with the settings shown below.

Here's the larger issue, and people can comment if they want to. When you set out to create representational graphics that are NOT supposed to look photo-realistic, then you have all the artistic liberty in the world to tweek how things appear and behave. Once you decide you want to simulate a photo-realistic scene (like the one in this tutorial) the rules change. Now you have to obey the rules of light, shadow, reflections, texture, wear-and-tear, etc. It's much harder to do and requires a bigger commitment from the artist, starting with a very detailed observation of how these objects look in real life.

I agree with some of the comments hereall he basically did was use brushes and changed some layer styles. I'm not trying to be mean, it's just that this tutorial has bothered me for some time, especially since it says Create a Dark Themed Web Design from SCRATCH.

This year has seen a big increase in grungey / textured / hand-drawn styled website designs. By nature I tend to design a cleaner look myself, but I thought I'd try my hand at grunge today and write up a tutorial on creating a simple paper texture from scratch in Photoshop then marrying it with a web layout to create a neat design.

In this tutorial, we'll put together a high-end Web design using a crisp, thin font, gorgeous background images, and clever use of space and layout. You can easily use the technique to create your own unique designs.

Create a new layer and name it as icon. Use the Rounded Rectangle tool with radius 2px, draw a small square at the center of the button. Select the Pen tool and right-click on the square path then select Stroke Path.

Create another new layer, fill it with 50% gray (like step 2), then change Blending mode to Color Dodge. Next, we use the Dodge and Burn tools with the same settings in step 9, except the brush size will be bigger, then paint random highlight and shadows over the new layer. Then, your denim texture is realistic than ever.

In this tutorial you will learn how to re-create an Apple iPod Shuffle by using the original image from apple's website as a reference and using the gradient tool, layer masks and basic selection and guide techniques.

I???m going to show you how to create a wordpress theme from scratch in these 3 parts of tutorial series. I will cover from Structuring, designing in Photoshop, slicing, coding into fully css based html, and finally wordpress implementation.

Make another copy of the entire bird, and then goto Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and change the Hue to yellow (+45)?? Once again use the same Motion Blur settings.

This tutorial teaches you how to create a super realistic bottle of wine completely from scratch. You will learn how to use the pen tool effectively, as well as gradient/pattern overlays and other drawing techniques.

Create a new layer and Ctrl-click the main eye layer we've just been working on to make a selection. Then we want to make sure the new layer is active, and goto Edit > Stroke. Choose around 10px, Inside, and a color slightly darker than the one you used for the main eye color. We should have something like this:

We can now deselect our planet and then open up the Layer Styles for it. We want to add an Inner Shadow, but change the angle to -45, and you may want to reduce the opacity and play with the Distance and Size:

Great tutorial. I have added a link on my site to it from my iPod Nano tutorial. Check it out http://tweeaks.com/2008/03/02/make-an-ipod-nano-in-photoshop/

Hey! Another Great tutorial!!! Must have the font that you used for the Plastic one! And, to all the people who say It looks unfinished!!! or It looks so unprofesional and low quality!!!: it says, Quick'n'Dirty Text Effect from Scratch It doesn't say, 6 Incredibly profesional and hard to make text effects that will confuse beginners and. Get a grip people! I think they look GREAT.

I created the example version using one of Photoshop's default brushes and a golf ball I extracted from another image. You can find quality images online very easy, a good source is

Move that photo to the new document. Press Ctrl + J to duplicate this layer and use Free Transform > Flip Horizontal. You'll get this:

Create a new document 500400 with any desired background. Select the elliptical marquee tool and draw a circle, fill the circle with a temporary color. In the layers window click on your layer whilst holding the CTRL key on the keyboard to load a selection, now goto select > modify > contract. when the box comes up enter a value of around 20-30 pixels. Now goto select > modify > smooth and enter a value of 20. You should now have a ring like this.
