In this tutorial, how to create your very own Vortex like one of the Default wallpapers with Windows XP. We will start with a blank canvas of 400x300 pixels. Press D to make sure we have the Default colors - black and white, then goto Filter > Render > Fibers. Play with the settings until you get a look you prefer, and then click Ok:

Learn how to create an abstract Vortex effect that looks great as a banner, or signature background. This effect is completely filter based, so no matter what your photoshop user level is you can learn something form this tutorial. Great for beginners!

We can now start making the debris (if you want). It's not necessary, but if you want to make it look like there is stuff getting sucked into the vortex, follow along.

Once we have a Vortex we like the look of, we can add some color by going to Edit > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. Making sure that the Colorize option is checked, use the sliders to choose a color you want your Vortex to be:
