In this tutorial I'll show you how to texture map so you can paint 2d textures ready for applying in 3D Studio Max. First if you don't already have them, get both Wavefront OBJ plugins from Habware and install them into your 3D Studio Max Plugins folder as per the instructions. Then get UVmapper from Steve Cox (both Freeware). Then Download this Zip file containing the model and photo we will be working with. Now open the Laptop.max file and go through each part and rename them so they can easily recognized, I've labeled mine Top, Bottom, Keyboard and screen, now export as a Wavefront OBJ using the settings below.

Now give each UVW map a unique Map Channel, you could make it match the material ID (this would be very conveniant and will avoid problems) but it doesn't really matter as long as they are all unique! You will use this map channel when you make your materials for each part of the car.
