The library can get boring, especially as a kid or teen, so it's great to try to make it fun! Read on...
Edit Steps
- 1Find a genre you like. It could be adventure stories, mysteries, horror, romance, real life, animal stories - there are so many to choose from! If you haven't read many books before and aren't sure which genre you'd like, pick a book of the same genre as a movie you like. The chances are you'll like the book as well. Don't be afraid to try new genres!
- 2Find your favorite author. Once you've found a genre you like, experiment with different authors who write in that genre. Find your favorite author. Read that author's books. If the author also writes in another genre, try those books as well.
- 3Enter summer reading programs. You'll get prizes, so even if you don't like to read, there is a reward.
- 4Volunteer!! It will be fun just to help out at the library and it feels good to be useful. Be as helpful as you can.
- 5Treat yourself after reading.
- 6Go with friends! You can share favorite books and authors and recommend books to them..
- 7Have a book race!!Get some friends and walk fast round the library and try to find the oldest book. As an alternative, you could try to find the newest book. Find a prize for the winner!
Edit Tips
- Make sure the book you are reading is age appropriate. If you are aged 12 or under, read books in the children's section. If you are aged 13 to 19, read books in the teenage or young adult section. People aged 11 or over can also read some books in the adult's section. Ask the librarian first to make sure its suitable for your age.
- One of the most popular genre's to get into these days is manga. Those are those books that literally fill up a number of shelves in the young adult section. The most popular titles include, but are not limited to: Bleach, Naruto, Red River, One Piece, and School Rumble. This may motivate you to read more. I don't like to read long novels, but I do love these manga books! Just be warned that sometimes, people may not accept that as a summer reading, book report, etc. option. Its best to read these on your own time, or give priority to books that they mention on your list first.
Edit Warnings
- Don't annoy other readers! This means don't talk too loudly, turn your mobile to silent and no laughing out loud!
- Don't read popular books if they are too easy or you don't like them!
