We're going to create some flaming hot 3D text in Photoshop, using a variety of filters and tools. This may get a big lengthy, so let's dive right in! This tutorial is a simple but effective way to create 3D text using only Photoshop. Easy to follow tutorial with alot of detail, outcome is good and cathces the eye well! This tutorial shows you some basic techniques using different blending options to get a 3D text that is in perspective, with a nice end result which really stands out.
Most of you probably know those awesome letters that were generated with 3D programs. But what about when you don't have any particular program and you need to make 3D typography? This tutorial will show you how to create the 3D text shape and give it a high quality metal look using pure Photoshop. Check it out! In this tutorial, you'll learn how to combine stock images and 3D text into a cool poster. We'll use an icy theme for it and color it the way we want. You'll see it's not that hard to create a simple appealing poster with effective use of text and imagery. Here is a link to the written version of the tutorial How to Create an Ice-cold Poster with 3D Text and the video version is below.
So add this layer styles on all layers except background layer and " DIGITAL copy 10 " - this is my layer name. You can use the above techniques to apply to random shapes and the result will be something like rocks sinking in lava instead of text. Thats what tutorials are about, you learn, and apply the technique your own way. Go back to first text layer and in Filter use renden>Lens Flare. Repeat this step for several times and move point every time to other location. Now we're at the last step of giving the text the 3D effect. To do this, we'll need to burn the places where there should be shadows, and dodge the places that should be shiny like the curves. Confusing...? Yes. Refer to the image above by clicking it. Just use the burn tool to make it more darker and so you know there's a space there for shadow. Then for the dodge, use it on the curves so it shines. 2. Then go to the layers palette and right click on the text layer. Choose Blending Options, and then apply these settings. Now duplicate the text layer, there's several ways to do this, one way is to right click on the layer (in the layer palette) and select "Duplicate Layer". Then "Ctrl" click the new shape layer in the Layers Palette. Be certain that you have the top white text layer selected in the Layers Palette, then go to "Edit" then "Cut". Turn the Fill down to 32% and your done. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. With your new document, lets create your 3D text. I'm using Arial Black, size 300px. (Note: DO NOT use the "Faux Bold" option on this text or the next step will fail). With the following tutorial you will learn to design a text in third dimension, the tutorial is very easy to follow. Duplicate the layer again and add some perspective, change the opacity (to create a drop shadow effect) and you have a nice 3d text: 1. Let's start out by creating a new file. We will be creating a 3D text effect with special smoke. I used a 800x300 pixels canvas set at 72dpi, and I filled my background with a black color. Then make a new layer set and name it 'text design'. Select the text tool (T), and type in the text which you would like to transform into 3D. In this case i just used the words "Text". Ok now this is the last step. Go and select the background. Then go to Layer/delete layer. You should be on a transparent checker board now right? Ok great. Now your going to go to Layer/merge all layers. Everything should be merged now. After you've done that go to layer/layer style/stroke and give it a two or three pixel stroke of a nice color that blend s in with your text. Once you did that go to layer/new layer and call it background. Once you have that layer color it in with a color and place your 3d text above it, and you should be done. Try doing more to it though, maybe add a reflection if you don't know how to do that go to our reflection tutorial in basic effects. Good luck!!! Create new layers in between each letter to paint some black (#000000) shadows with Soft Brush tool. Mask these shadows the same way done for the Floral layers. 6. Now for the fun part. With your text/shape selected, hit Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow so it copies that layer and nudges it down 1 pixel. Do this 25-35 times until you have your desired thickness. Your layer palette will look like this. Duplicate the text layer and drag the duplicate underneath the original, then change the color of text to Black. Right-click the duplicate layer and choose Rasterize Type (or Rasterize Layer), and hide the original text layer. With the duplicate layer selected, goto Filter > Blur > Motion Blur. Choose an angle 45 and a distance of around 10-15. We should have something like this: 2. Create a new layer and move the text layer above the layer you have just created and hold CTRL + E to merge them together. Edit -> Transform -> Perspective - once that's done, click on the small box on the bottom left and drag it left to give it a better look. 5. Make the layer with the copy of the text visible again and set opacity for this layer 70%. Press V to switch Move tool. Put the text layer in front of the 3D text. Then make a copy of the text layer (see above how to make it). Set 30% for the opacity of the new layer and put it with the backside of the 3D text. That?s it! Select your Type Tool(T), click on the background and type in your text. I just wrote "3D". Don't worry about colour's at this stage. And ensure that the text is NOT in bold. Place this duplicated text behind the original text. Use your arrows keys and tap the Up and left keys. I tapped up 4 times and left 3 times and got the 3D effect. Once you have done all of this, your design is now ready for export to ImageReady to create the physical animation. I used the 105mm Prime lens type. Unlike the other two, this flare is mostly white glare. (above image, text [3]) Whew! Ok, this is almost done. For creating the animation, I used Fireworks MX. This is my first time to use it so I kinda fumbled around with it. Now select all duplicate layers except the one on top by shift-clicking, and then press Ctrl+E to merge. We should now have just 3 layers - the face of the text, the shadow of the text, and then background layer. Create a simple refection effect with a bit of a 3d effect, I've seen this tutorial done many times but i rarely see this effect taken to the next level, also since reflections are distorted 90% of the time, they may be squeezed, bent, or swirled out of proportion , But that's a matter of taste i suppose. In this tutorial i will be adding a bit of perspective to create the illusion of 3d space, As well as shrinking the reflection for added distortion. Here we go: First off... make sure the 'chrome' & 'scratches' layers are not visible -- hide them. Then duplicate the 'Text 3' layer. Press Ctrl/Cmd+I to invert the shades of the gradient. Then apply a 2 to 3 pixel Gaussian Blur to the layer; make sure the type is not selected. I used 2.5 pixels for mine. Then set the layer's Blend Mode to Difference. And finally, use the Move tool and nudge this layer down 3 pixels. Now from here it gets very easy... duplicate the 'text 3 copy' layer, and invert the shades -- press Ctrl/Cmd+I. 4. Now that you have added some depth to your text, we're going to give it a 3d proggy-like 3d style. Now, insert a layer below the top layer. Click on the top layer, and press (ctrl+e). DO NOT MERGE THE Background LAYER!!! 1. Begin with a new file. Its size and color are irrelevant. Then take the Text Tool and type in your text. Then, duplicate the text layer in the Layers Palette and drag the duplicated layer so it is just above the background layer in the Layers Palette. Name the duplicated text layer "Text 2" in the Layers Palette. Then change the color of the "Text 2" layer to 646569. Then "Ctrl" click the new shape layer in the Layers Palette. Be certain that you have the top white text layer selected in the Layers Palette, then go to "Edit" then "Cut". Turn the Fill down to 32% and your done. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. This Photoshop tutorial teaches you to create a 3D and glossy Text effect with border. The dimensions used in this tutorial is : width 200px, height 200px and resolution 72px. This tutorial demonstrates the use of Pen Tool, Elliptical and Rectangular Marquee and Brush Tools. This tutorial teaches you to create your own checked pattern that can be used in the design background and give a glossy or wet effect to your text / images using some simple techniques in Photoshop. Now Select your text layer. Hold ALT and press the right key several times. This will duplicate the layer and move it one pixel to the right. This is what I received so far. You should have something very similar. Don't worry if your text is really hard to read. We will fix that. 1. Create a new 165x165 pixel document and name it Ice Text. Now press D then X and fill the document with white. Then create a new layer, name it 'text', and select the horizontal type mask. Click on the document and write the letters you please. Then when you click on the little checkbox (upper right) you will get a selection of the text. Fill the text with a dark blue [R: 0, G: 31, B: 86]. Then contract the selection by 3 pixels. and fill with a lighter blue [R: 0, G: 118, B: 163]. Create a new document in Adobe Photoshop with the size 400x400 pixels and a white background. Type a text with a red color. I used the text "web" for this tutorial: Note: These effects aren't needed, but they provide nice details to the final product. Now that we have the basic 3D effect, we can add more effects to give it a reflection, and an environment. Select the original text layer and add a faint drop shadow to it. Select the layer set, and press CTRL+E (this will merge all the layers inside.) Duplicate the new layer (CTRL+J) which use to be the layer set, and lower its opacity to about 20%. Position it below the 3D text, so it looks like a reflection. There are many tutorials about reflections in our database if you need any more help. On my background layer, I also added a faint gradient instead of just a white backdrop. Use this effect to create your own 3D translucent text. In this tutorial, you will learn how to use four layers and one filter to create a 3D translucent text. Now, you will create a 3D effect. Hold down Alt+Ctrl key and press few times right arrow key on the keyboard. Look at the picture below. 2. Now go to the layers palette and right click on your text layer, choose Blending Options and apply this settings. 1. Create a new 165x165 pixel document with a resolution of 100 and name it Icicles. Now press D and fill the document (with Black). Then create a new layer. Next, create a horizontal type mask, press X and then fill (with white). Load the selection of the layer wit the text on it. Show channels and create a new channel. Press D and then X on keyboard to reset colors to white and black. Fill the selection with white. Show layers and select the text layer and merge the layers. 3. Ok now you got your text typed out on your stage. Choose a nice bright color. I used #4297BF. Right click the text layer and go to blending options. Select these options: Colin's graphic design work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Guru awards at Photoshop World 2001 and 2002, for his work in both Illustration and Web Design. He is in high demand across the United States as a lecturer, presenting his Photoshop techniques to Web designers and other graphics professionals across the nation. That?s it! Now you can make more than just 3D text, just play around with your Layer Styles and then just do the Alt arrow and you can make many nice 3D looking objects. 15. Press CTRL+ALT+UPARROW to duplicate the layer and move the new layer 1px up. Do this many times until you have got the height you want of your 3D text. 1. Write your text (T). I choose the "AllStar" font, a free download on DaFont.com, because you can see through it, which makes for a nice effect. The color you start with, is not the final color of your text, but instead the color of the 3D-part, the depth actually. Therefore, I took gray as color. Place this duplicated text behind the original text. Use your arrows keys and tap the Up and left keys. I tapped up 4 times and left 3 times and got the 3D effect. 2. Open the warp text tool, it's the little box in the toolbar with ABC written on it. If you don't see it, select your type with the text tool.
In this tutorial, it is going to show you how to create a 3D Typography based design. It is quite nice to use the trees to do some combination with the text. Sometimes, the text can be presented with a nature scene which can increase the attractiveness to the users. Just try of different scene!
