For many years astronomical images from the world's telescopes were reserved for an elite of astronomers and technical people. Now anyone with a desktop computer running Adobe Photoshop software can try their hand at crafting astronomical images as beautiful as those from the Hubble Space Telescope. This free software plug-in, makes a treasure trove of archival astronomical images from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope, the European Space Agency's XMM-Newton X-ray observatory, NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and many other famous telescopes accessible to home astronomy enthusiasts.

Have you created something original? Do you have any resources our readers might like, even articles? If so, why not tell us, and we'll be sure to link you & the resources.

Select each planet and save it as a new selection for use later when merged with our bottom layer. Now merge the planets with the bottom layer.

We will walk you through creating everything in this space scene, stars, planets, lighting, coloring and more in this in-depth video tutorial.

Star environment Set the foreground color to white and the background color to black. Create a new layer and colored this black. Use Filter / Noise / Add Noise with amount = 70% ( Distribution = Uniform; Monochromatic = on). Apply Image / Adjust / Brightness and Contrast with Brightness = -70 and Contrast = -10. After then go to Filter / Blur / Gaussian Blur with radius = 2. And finally we apply Levels (ctrl + l). Important are the left and middle sliders. Move they together until that the stars appear (see the settings on the Image aside).

I agree that towards the end the steps got a bit vague, especially with the planet creation (probbably not a problem for those familliar with photoshop but ive only been at it for 3 days)

Create a new layer above the nebula layers but below the planet layer and name it stars. Start with the star brush set at 42 px and just click one time on several areas around the scene. (don't over do it). next take the 24px brush and do a little more. Keep doing this going down in size each time. The object is, the smaller the brush the more you can go crazy with it, try to cluster a bunch around some of the bright spots in the nebula.

In this Photoshop video tutorial we will walk you through creating everything in this space scene, stars, planets, lighting, coloring and more.

Now type out some retro text in the center of your canvas. Apply a bevel effect (settings shown below), and make your letters various shades of gray/white. Finally, reduce your text layer's opacity to 70%.

The new version of Illustrator has very useful features, like the opacity in gradients. Also the Smart Objects integration between Illustrator and Photoshop allows us to edit vectors in illustrator while working on the image in Photoshop, what is really useful too. I'm a big fan of vintage style images and in this tutorial I showed some techniques to create that. I hope you like the tutorial. Enjoy.

14. Repeat steps 8-13 with other parts of the World ;) Try to get 10-15 different textures. You can paste other screens on your cropped image, move a little and save instead of making a new file. It saves a lot of time.

28. Select your planet layer and play with Color Balance, Ctrl+B. I would like to have more cold planet so add more blue, reduce red.

15. When you use some brush from this pack, use it on new layer and try to experiment with Filter -> Sharpen -> Sharpen, sometimes it'll add more detailed stars.

1. Create a new 600x600 pixel document and name it Space. Press D then fill the layer (with black). Then apply a noice filter with settings [Amount: 10%, Distribution: Gaussion, and 'Monochromatic' checked]. Now adjust the levels witht these settings:

Creating Stars in Photoshop is something really easy. Create a new layer, fill it with black, and change the Blend Mode to Screen. After that go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise. Use 10% for the Amount, Gaussian for the Distribution and select Monochromatic. You will have a layer full of noise, then to create the start just change the levels of the layer, go to Image>Adjustment>Levels. For the Input Levels use 65, 1.00, 99. Doing that you will increase the black so just the bigger dots will appear, also you will increase the white, making the dots that appear brighter.

What's the fun of a space scene if you don't add a lens flare? Add a new layer to the top and fill it with black. Then click Filter-Render-Lens Flare. Move it to the top right and use 77 for the brightness and 50-300mm zoom for the type. Change the blend mode of the layer to lighten and the opacity to 95%.

Step 5 : Now for that star effect go to filter > render > Lens flare, and choose '105mm prime" and set brightess to 131%

For stars, use the brush tool in 1-3 px and go to the brush settings and mess around with the Shape Dynamics and Scattering tabs, these will make your stars be spaced out.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create your own space scene using three stock photos in Photoshop. The majority of the effects use the brush tool, layer effects and the filter gallery. You may want to set aside an hour or two before starting this tutorial because it requires quite a bit of work to accomplish. Very cool, let???s get started!

In this photoshop tutorial, it will show you how to create universe scene by a few steps. Firstly, you will learn how to create a universe background. And finalize it by adding small planets.

In this tutorial, it is going to show you how to create an ???Amazing Space and Planet Scene??? in photoshop. In our previous tutorial, they have shown you quite a few ways to create such scene. In this time, you can learn one more. Have a go!

This tutorial shows you a way to get more space from your backgrounds. This technique is mainly used for solid colored backgrounds like seamless papers. For higher resolution video check out www.newdarkroom.com

Join the 3rd point with the 1st point, mirroring the curve on the left with a new one on the right. Make a new layer and then use the rectangular marquee tool to create a selection as shown below. Select the reflected gradient tool and, using the gradient editor, set it to Foreground to Transparent. Select light grey for the foreground and then drag the gradient tool the from the middle of the shape, that we just created, towards the direction of the red arrow (image c).

Andrew, this is awesome. To me the space scene you created at the start looks great but the space ship sort of ruins it. What would look cool is the space scene without the ship and the cloud layer blue instead of purple. These are just suggestions. All in all, I think this is a great tutorial and keep up the good work!

Hey SpazZ, yeah I thought about putting in a planet bit in, but this tutorial was getting out of hand already

In this tutorial I want to show you how to create a Space Light.

Make a new document 400 by 100 and fill it with black

Create another new layer and keep your 65 px white brush. Brush a larger area underneath the moon. Make sure you follow the curvature of the moon as it meets the planet. Then, grab a small 3 px brush and turn Scattering to 1000% and Size Jitter to 75%. Brush some white particles around the area that you just brushed white.

We?re starting out with this hourglass stock image:

Select the gradient tool and click the radial gradient option in the top tool bar.

First of all we need to open Adobe Photoshop then create a new file.

The real challenge is to code an action that creates an outer space without any drawing by the user.

[1]-First of all Open New Document of Custom size,Height & Width 420420 pixels,Resolution 72 & Mode RGB Color

Wish I had done mine at 300 DPI, but still learned a lot.

On this nebula texture 1? layer, go to Edit > Transform > Free Transform (or Ctrl + T), resize, rotate this layer as you wish, the ultimate goal is to find a position where the outer part of the nebula image is surrounding the model.

4) Go to FILTER > RENDER > DIFFERENCE CLOUDS.

Now, onto the tutorial!

Create a Space Invaders Poster while learning how to use the the refine edge, poster edges and spherize tools using some textures and a few techniques.

Lets start off opening up Photoshop and creating a new 1024768px file and change the background layer to black. Make sure your black is in the foreground and then option + delete.

For the gradient, YOU need to create it. I'd suggest a into to Photoshop will help that.
