In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial you will see how to make a web 2.0 web badge, in my example I use one of the pre made Photoshop shapes to put in the badge, you can type in text or make your own custom shapes if you want, basically the process is the same.

Flash on the beach 2009 - Day 1

Button symbols are used for timeline navigation - They add interactivity to the movie and respond to mouse clicks, key press or rollovers/rollout, and other actions. You define the graphics associated with various button states (Up/Over/Down/Hit), and then assign actions to the instance of a button. They have 4 frames in their timeline - one each for the up, over and down states, and one to define the hit area of the button. Learn how to create a button symbol.

The procedure is the following:

This will take you into symbol editing mode. The problem is that we are going to be working with a white star on a white background. To make it easier to see double click the Frame Rate label in the timeline (see step 2) and change the background color to something other than white. We need to access our already created starShape symbol so if the Library isn't already displaying along the right side of the screen choose Window > Library to open it.

In Flash 8 we can find two types of libraries, the common libraries with examples, and custom libraries associated to our created movies. We have all of them to our disposal to use the contained symbols.

While I typically create the majority of objects I use in my animations using Flash's drawing tools, sometimes they aren't powerful enough. That's when I launch Illustrator. Using Illustrator's advanced drawing tools, I am able to create the illustrations I need and save them as symbols for current and future projects. The following animation is an example of a Flash movie using symbols that was created for a larger project.
