Now enough trying to convince you to use a movieclip as a button, now I will show you how to do it. It might seem a bit confusing with all the code you have to type, but try to read along, and understand, when you understand, you will never turn your back to it.

This is quite simple all you need is a button, image or what ever you need to add this effect to, as long as you will convert it to a movie clip and thats what we will do first.

The first thing is to make a nice smooth button, you can use an image or just draw something, I made a simple button using the rectangle tool, and added a drop shadow filter.

In this tutorial we will teach you how to make simple rollover buttons with links in Flash.

March, 2009

In this quick tutorial I am going to show you how to create a nice glowing button effect using Flash and few lines of AS3 code in order to control the button. Let's get started

2 Download the sample images for this tutorial that you'll use to quickly create a set of nice button symbols. Unpack the zip file and place the images someplace where you will easily find them.

myButton1.labelText.text = "webdesign"; myButton1.labelText.embedFonts = true; myButton1.labelText.selectable = false; myButton1.labelText.antiAliasType = "advanced"; myButton1.labelText.setTextFormat(myFormat);

45 Select Window > Actions or press F9 to open up the Actions panel.

49 Select the Text tool (T). This time you will use the Static text field type too. Leave most of the options as they were when you placed the label on the star shape. The only things that you should change are: turn on the Italic option – this will make the text look more swift and it will accentuate the direction of its movement once it gets moving; select the Anti-alias for animation option since you are going to animate this text.

62 Select the orange label 2 movie clip in this (Over) frame by clicking on it once on the stage.

31 Double-click this button on stage to enter its timeline.

Your newly made movie clip has a thin blue line around itself, and also a little white circle in the middle, with a cross inside it – this is the movie clip's registration point. It is around that point that all the manipulations are made. For example, if you wish to move your movie clip around with ActionScript, the registration point is the reference point for determining and setting the movie clip's position on the stage.

1.2 Select the Rectangle tool (R). Turn off the outline color (also called the Stroke color) by going to the bottom part of the Tools panel, clicking on the pencil icon and then the No color button (the small white square with a red diagonal line across it, below the stroke and fill colors): .

Due to a request over at triquitips.com I'm going to be showing you how to create a button mashing game. It's fun, it's pretty easy, and here's how to do it.

In this tutorial I'm going to cover how to set up a basic button. If you're looking for codes for buttons or advanced buttons techniques, please check our other tutorials. I'll explain the 4 button states, and which one your button will display and when.

Ok, so maybe I'm fobbing you off with some old tutorials whilst I'm doing my exams, but hey, it's content isn't it? Here's another old tutorial following on from the last one showing you how to add some simple actionscript to your buttons to perform the most called for commands.

Using the selection tool (v) select your button. Convert it into a symbol by pressing F8 then give your symbol an appropriate name and check the “button” button then click ok.

Learn all about the basics of buttons in Flash and make this cool navigation bar with your new skills. Have fun!

And heres how we make it!

EXAMPLE <—- This is what you will end up with by the end of this tutorial.

Start a new actionscript 2 file, set the framerate to 30 for smooth animation. Create three layers, one called 'movie clip', another called 'buttons' and a third called 'actions'. First select your moviclip layer, and drag your animated movie clip from the library onto the stage, then give this an instance name. I have called mine 'MC_blob' for the purpouse of this tutorial.

You can download the sourcecode here.

7. To assign a sound to a state of the button, select that state's frame in the Timeline, choose Window > Properties, and then select a sound from the Sound menu in the Property inspector.

WEBSITE DESIGN TUTORIALS

1. To create a Button, first do this. a)-. Create a new document (Ctrl. + J), size: 150 * 80 pixeles. b)-. Background color #FFFFFF.

Step 3. Double-click your button to edit it.

Now, select the circle tool in the Tools palette (fig. 3, #1), and set the stroke to no stroke (fig. 3, #2) and the fill color to black (fig. 3, #3). Finally, make sure that the Object Drawing mode is off (fig. 3, #4), since we actually want the shapes we'll be drawing to merge into a single object.

Adobe Flash Player

Series: SWF Quicker 2.0 + Estimated Time of Completion: 15 minutes

8. Now double click the button to get into the buttons timeline. Now we have defined how our button should look like when its done, but we need to change its color when the button is clicked.

5. select both shapes at once, right click and choose convert to symbol and convert it to a button. Double click the button to get to its timeline.

Do you want to make a shiny button like that? Well then read this tutorial!

In this tutorial I'm going to cover how to set up a basic button. If you're looking for codes for buttons or advanced buttons techniques, please check our other tutorials. I'll explain the 4 button states, and which one your button will display and when.

Code 2- Hyperlinks If you put the following code into the actions panel on your button, it will take you to an internet page or a local file.

Insert a new frame into the timeline (F5) wherever you like, the further along you put it the more song you will hear. If you test your animation now (crtl + enter) you should hear the song being played.

2. Select the button using Arrow Tool and press F8 to create symbol. Select Button option in behavior and name the symbol.

Alright, I think you should by now understand buttons. If your "Flash hunger" has not yet been satisfied, do have a look at other tutorials at lashf.com Cheers!

One of the most effective ways of adding interactivity to your flash website or interface is to have animated button rollovers, also known as "complex buttons". A complex button has the same up, over and down state that your standard "simple button" would have, but allows you to join the different states with animation.

I am very new at flash. I have a problem i have been working for hours, obsessed about getting this problem solved. No avail, help.

There are two ways to add actions to a button in Flash. You can add the actions to the button itself or you can refer to the button when adding actions to a frame. Unfortunately, the actions you add will be a little different depending on which method you choose. Because of this difference, the ActionScript involved can be a little confusing to beginners. In this video, we'll clear up all the confusion and fix some common mistakes that are made in the process.

This tutorial will teach you how to create a menu with smooth button animation using the ActionScript Tween Class. Using the technique illustrated in this tutorial will make you able to create smooth hover effect for buttons that does not jump or skip when the mouse is moved too quickly over the buttons. This is an intermediate level tutorial which assumes knowlege on how to use the Tween Class.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to command sounds with invisible buttons. Add invisible buttons around objects that become interactive, and play sounds and songs.

1- Make an empty MovieClip by pressing Ctrl+F8. Name it MyButtonMC

- Convert the rectangle to a Button Symbol. (Ctrl+A first to select it, then F8 to convert it to a symbol.) The name of the symbol does not matter, you can just put MyButton for the sake of this tutorial. Make sure the symbol behaviour is set to BUTTON.

the active state should play when a sound completes…

They are elements that have to be pressed by the user for triggering a serie of actions. It's also usual to see how this type of elements responds when the mouse passes over them, or they are clicked, for example.

Click in the down state keyframe on the sound layer again and on the property inspector make sure that the sync option is set to event. An event sound will play for its full length regardless if there is room on the timeline for it or not.

Realy nice buttons for your website.

Create a new Flash 8 document with 400x300 dimensions and Frame rate 12 fps.

1. First, open a new flash document. Next we need to create our button instance. Hit ctrl F8 to make a new symbol. Make sure you select button as the behavior type and give it the name "invisible button."

A combination of ActionScript coding, some cool graphics, and some basic flash skills and go a long way. This tutorial focuses on the logic and thinking required to make an interactive Movie Clip button.

You will now need to choose a right font for the buttons. For the retro gaming style you are creating, there is a perfect font complete with cool space invaders characters!

56. Following the same exact procedure you did before, make the rectangle's height equal that of the button's gradient bar: 30 pixels. Its width should be just big enough to cover all of the label beneath it - I made it 200 pixels. Place the rectangle so that it is perfectly aligned with the gradient bar's right, upper and lower edges. And, make sure that it is positioned on round coordinates.

In this step-by-step tutorial, I show you how to create rollover effects (in this tutorial, on movieclips.) I also show you how to navigate to URL's via ActionScript, along with a description of the scripting we are doing.

Let's see that this isn't always so trivial. Here are two buttons created in Flash 8. Let's verify what happens when the mouse moves over one and another.

You have now successfully created a functional "complex" button and if you wanted, you could leave it at this Step. I will take it just a bit further to illustrate why I prefer this technique over others. The reason is that this technique gives you the ability to have 2 separate animations for rollover and roll out.

Before starting to create the rest of the promo button with the scrolling text, you will add just one more filter.

Welcome to this beginner tutorial for Macromedia Flash 8.In this tutorial you will learn to create rollover buttons for your websites. Even though this tutorial is a fairly easy one, you will need some basic Flash knowledge to execute some of the actions needed to create buttons with cool rollover effects.

How to create a URL link button in Flash; learn more about encoding video on websites in this free instructional video.

To save time and effort, when creating more than one button, press F11 or go to Windows>Library and dublicate your button. (Right-click as shown in Fig 3).

Creating interactive buttons can cover a wide variety of options. This tutorial will show you how to use the standard Flash button tools to make a use roll over effect.

Note: You can either have a Flash movie which contains a number of buttons or you can have a Flash movie that is a single button and no more.

This tutorial was written for the Flash Designer software, which allows you to create flash animations in a much easier way than by using Macromedia Flash. You may get Flash Designer here.

To create custom button choose "Button" tool from the toolbox. Draw a button. Choose "Item" > "Edit Properties" to define custom appearance of the button. Delete button text and enter object names in "Custom Background", "OnOver" , "OnClick" and "Hit Area" edit fields. (Open the file button.sfd to see the definition of the button)

this is self explanitory- on release, it will goto and play frame 5. The other shit, it puts in there for you so it will work. Learn more in the ActionScript tutorial. Do we have anything in frame 5? No. Ok, lets put something there so we know its working. Click on the button layer and select frame 5 and insert a blank keyframe (do the same for actions layer) [we want it blank so you dont see the button in later frames]. Create another layer real quick and add a keyframe in frame 5 and add text that says, "YOU'RE IN FRAME 5 NOW." THEN - create a button that says "back" Now, you may or may not have noticed that flash will automatically loop your movie. This means that it will play it over and over and over and over and over and over...STOP! right? So lets tell it to stop on frame 1. Select frame 1 in the actions layer. RIGHT CLICK -->ACTIONS. and the stop function is on the left like this:

You may have seen flash websites that have flash buttons with built in sound. Some of you may ask "How could they do that?". Well, if you were one, you come to the right place. This flash tutorial guide shows you how simple a flash sound button can be.

Creating a button in flash mx is simple but creating a realistic embossed one is even simpler than you might imagine.

Ever wanted to make those shiny, nice looking aqua buttons? Yes, but in Flash? You can make them in Photoshop or Fireworks. But creating them directly in Flash makes your file size a lot smaller (the SWF file below this text has only 2 KB!), enables you to change the color of a button more easily, to transform other aspects of the button (create a Mac-style type of tab, for example), without going back to a paint or similar program to adjust it and export it anew for Flash. So, let's get down to work!

defines the function that makes the rollover effect possble. It says that a function is assigned to the shinyButton movie clip's onRollOver event handler. An event handler handles a certain kind of event: it tells Flash what to do if this event happens. In this partcular case, that event happens when someone rolls his mouse over the movie clip in question.

Now use the "Selection Tool" and click and drag the bottom of the white circle to create a fortune cookie type she. Now add anything you want into the button to complete it.

So its easy to understand what is going on here. Secondly if your Dynamic text Box is in any other movie for example you MovieClip() name is news then you will use it like this news.data.scroll.

Now to add an action to your button click on the script tab, then click the Add Script button followed by Events

- Open its "Actions"tab. - Click on Add Event. - Select "On (Roll Over) ------------ Tell Target "/effect" ------------ Goto Frame 1 (and stop)
