The method we will use is called appendText, but first we need to set up a button and some textboxes, and give them instance names.
Time for a new tutorial. This time, we will look at how to use the filters in Flash CS3 to create the effect of text being engraved into the background. Note that this effect will work only on text that is big & bold enough. In this tutorial we will teach you how to cross text using Motion Tween in Flash. In this tutorial we will teach you how to create a simple scrollbar using action script in Flash. December, 2007
7 Click over the rectangle and type anything you like.
Note: To create a better exploding effect move larger pieces of text away from the original piece of text. Then from the larger pieces of text move smaller pieces of text away from the larger pieces. Using the Text tool (T), type your text on the stage. I chose the Verdana font type with the colour red. You can choose whatever colour or font you wish. On the timeline insert a new layer called “mask”. This layer contains your masked object. Using the rectangle tool (R) drag a rectangle shape before your text message. Convert your mask object (rectangle shape) into a symbol by pressing F8. Give your symbol an appropriate name, check movie clip and click ok. @TucsonFx This tutorial is just a simple example of how you can use input text in flash. And yes, it is possible to display a message if the field is left blank. I too had the same thing happen, but I solved it. I think the problem is that a step was left out. 3 layers in total are needed for this effect. I created a 3rd layer called it "bkgrd" & moved it directly underneath the "shiny effect" layer, keeping it nested in the "Layer 1" mask. I made a rectangle that was slightly larger than the text, filled it with black and voila. The effect worked! Without the "bkgrd" layer the text disappears as the mask tweens beyond the text, rendering it invisible. Hope this helps, & btw, a shape tween is called for instead of a motion tween for the gradient rectangle. Depending on your specific needs, it may be necessary to load text from an external file into a dynamic text field in Flash MX. The following example and steps illustrate one way to add this functionality to Flash movies.
2. Type some static text to the center of the stage. Use whatever font and size you want. Use the color #FF8800 if you want the same looking glow effect as in this tutorial. 2. First, create a static text field and type some text in it (e.g. FlashMyMind). Position the text in the center of the stage. 2. Create a static text field at the center of the stage. Make it big enough so it will cover most of the stage and type some text in it. WEBSITE DESIGN TUTORIALS
Once again I got a question to one of my written tutorials, this time it was my Macromedia Flash tutorial on how to make a text floating effect, where some letters is floating into place from different places outside the stage. In order for the 3D text to be created, we first need a base font definition to start with. This is in the form of a SWF with embedded fonts, which in turn is embedded in our application. [code]

Unfortunately, there are some problems if you use the built-in GET and POST option with LoadVariableNum(). For some reason, sending Variables by POST only works in Internet Explorer and not with Netscape and Opera. For this reason, the variables will be passed directly in the URL string.

The tutorial to follow along with and more useful Flash stuff. Flash, irritatingly enough, does not come with a specific stroke tool, but I have found a few ways to get around this and simulate a stroke effect with the following methods. Step 12. Select all the text and use the Gradient Transform Tool (F). Rotate the gradient so it is parallel (horizontally) like so. Adjust the gradient a bit until you feel like it has a chrome look. 4. Now go to Window and select Components. When the Components panel appears, open the User Interface components and drag a copy of the UIScrollBar component near bloack text Step 1. Create a New File with any dimensions to your likings. (P.S. There will be no Action Script work and therefor this effect can be done on any versions of the later Flash softwares.) 8. You have to initialize HTMLText1.scroll value. Choose "Frame" > "ActionScript", type the following code and click OK. The code is execute before the frame is displayed. Open Flash CS3 and from the Welcome screen, choose Flash File (ActionScript 3.0) to create a new movie. The newly improved UI components can be used only in ActionScript 3-based Flash projects. In the Property inspector, set the frame rate to 30 fps. You can leave the Size and Background color of the movie at their default values. Save the file somewhere on your hard drive as textSizer.fla. 6. Make sure you have locked the scrollarea layer and have made it invisible (click the dot under the eye icon next to the layer). Now select the text layer and the text you have placed in it. Convert this text into a movie clip (press F8 on your keyboard). You may need to unlock this layer to select the text. In the Movie Clip options select the MovieClip radio button and name it scrolltext, then hit OK. Now your text box is a MovieClip . Now in the properties window of the MovieClip, name it scroll_text in the instance name field, then lock the layer once again. Create a new Flash Document with the dimension 550 as the width and 400 pixels as the height, set the background color to white. Note: with Flash MX it is a lot easier to create scrolling text. Position a multiline text box on the stage, and give it an INSTANCE name. Next open up the components area, and find the Flash components that come with Flash MX. Inside you will see a Scroll Bar component, simply drag and drop this onto your text box. Add some text and test. Text effects are a popular use for Flash. Here's how to make text fly apart in shards in a 'smashed window' sort of way. This tutorial was written for the Flash Designer software, which allows you to create flash animations in a much easier way than by using Macromedia Flash. You may get Flash Designer here. 2. Type some text in the first layer with name 'Text Layer'. On frame 25 click f6 and then type some other text with some other color on some different position. b) Now in the timeline for the text - add a 'place' action on frame 0 and double click on frame 61. This will add a 'move' action to the timeline. Click the first frame of the move action then from the top menu of swish choose: view/preview frame, and then drag your text up until the last line of text is just inside of the masked rectangle. Click the transform tab on the properties box and change the 'X' value at the end of the effect to be the same as the 'X' value from the beginning of the effect. This will keep the scrolling effect from moving to the side while in action.
