Now, with exactly the same process used for the Little Feathers, create the shadow of the shaft and the darker stripes with a grey (#99947F) and a light brown color (#B3AC8D). Remember that dark stripes in this case don't just start from the shaft, but are also on the external parts a little, from outside to inside. This will actually take a lot of time, but the more time you'll spend, the more realistic the end result! Add more dark zones this way: Add a new layer, then Ctrl+click on the Right Side layer, take the Lasso Tool and holding ALT on the keyboard, exclude the middle part from the selection. Repeat this step for the Left Side layer.

If you want more featheres appearence such as at the base of the feather where a downyu look appears on some feathers, drag our smudge tool out and away a little further, giving a slight wiggle as your draw your tool up and out from the feather.

Now make a new layer, grab the brush tool and paint with some colors over the feather, like in my example:

Select the PEN tool and click in the middle of the screen and just below the top edge of the box. Now hold down the SHIFT key and click at the bottom of the screen to create a straight line, then click back on the top point once again and your straight line will be seen as shown here.

Title: Feather Fur - Free photoshop tutorial with techniques and tips to make a feather. Description: Great new photoshop tutorial where you will learn techniques and tricks to design or create feathur or fur.

Step 2 Duplicate the layer and go to Filter>Artistic>Colored Pencil and add these settings; Then change the blending-mode to soft light;

The lighting effect on the top is a bit strong, and definitely too strong on the bottom. Instead of the white glow in the middle of the water, another cloud effect can help make it look like more realistic water.

4. Now hold down ctrl and click the star layer to load the selection. Go to select -> feather and feather the selection about 15 px. Hit delete to delete the inside part of the selction.

With the elliptical selection tool drag out from the bottom corner so we only see the top part of the selection, then choose the selection mode called subtract from selection and drag as shown below.

You can use the Feather command in Adobe Photoshop CS3 to feather the inverse selection of an image. The result can be a subtle or dramatic feathering. In this video tutorial, you'll learn how to feather an image in Photoshop CS3.

The amount of feather will vary depend on resolution of image. So specific amount of feather that produce best result in one image may not work with the other image if the image resolution are greatly different.
