In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial, we're going to take a photo and make it look like an oil painting, which is a popular and fun thing to do with Photoshop.

The Sidewalk Series of Photoshop brushes started as a challenge to myself to see how many brushes I could find on the way to my mailbox. I was immediately drawn to all the cracks, stains, and spots on the sidewalk and in the street. This is volume 2 of the series titled ???????Oil Stains???????. They are just that, 10 high resolution grungy concrete stains.

Change the layer mode from normal to Linear Light and reduce the opacity to 70%. Now you have oil paint image :)

Open your picture in Photoshop. Make sure the picture is on a separate layer from the background. On the layer with your picture click Filter >Brush Strokes >Angled Strokes as shown below.

Step 4: Create a new effect layer. To do this, click on the button in Photoshop identical to this image :

1. Click on Filter > Distort > Glass and apply the following settings to your photograph.

Without deselecting, go to the Channels Tab and click on the little button on the bottom that says "Save selection as channel" when highlighted.
