Now if you remember we created 2 text layers earlier and rasterized the first one. Now it's time to rasterize the second one. Once you have done this grab your smudge tool, and set your brush size to 40px and your strength to 60%. You want to start smudging the tops of the letters of your top text layer. To achieve a nice smokey effect, don't simply smudge upwards, but make small circular smudging motions.
The chicago web design studio I currently work for recommended this tutorial for me to begin my internship. Thanks it helped with my photoshop and typography skills.
Last week we published our 10th Wallpaper of the Week. It was an awesome typography design from Ginger Monkey Design called Compassion. What I really liked about that design was how they mixed some "frilly bits" with the typeface to create an outstanding piece of work. I decided to create a tutorial showing how to do that as well - Fabio
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on big typography. Definitely drop me some feedback using the comment form below. And if you come up with a cool design I would love to see it! Upload it to the MyInkBlog Flickr group.
I saw a graphic designer at a convention recently that does this sort of work with typography. I can't remember his name, but he hand draws all these complex swirls in pen. Very cool style.
Kinetic Typography is the method by which you visualize a speech, conversation or lyrics only by means of animated text. I've put together a list of 11 typographic videos about cult movies. Not only are these animations very interesting but also they offer a great source of inspiration for static typographic design. If that's not enough you could always try to determine what fonts were used.

The adidas logotype on a retro bag strap against white canvas. Love the richness of textures and colors in this one. Even the letters themselves are fuzzy:
There is something special about these hand picked posters. A certain style that is unique and makes them stand out. Those are big typography posters, with a grunge edge and a retro touch. Typically with big fonts, straight lines, round curves, dark colors and grunge textures.
This website uses very bold, large headlines to immediately 'wow' the user. The user's eye is drawn down the page, associating the similar typography near the top and bottom, as well as by the repeated 're' message.
What's up, people? I fell like it's been long time since I've last posted any article. Well, I come today bringing sweet illustration inspiration here from Brazil. The options within Photoshop to create great typography are virtually unlimited. A killer font collection is half of your work done right there. Knowing which font to use effectively for your particular situation or project...that's the important part and if you are a "natural" it should be an enjoyable process. For example you wouldn't put kindergarten block text with a primetime drama design. As a designer a lot of this is instinct. You want type or "copy" that is going to "synergize" with the overall effect of your design and like I said, a great font portfolio is a huge headstart. Knowing when to use what font is most of the rest of the battle. Then you can do minor things for improvements that will push the typography to where it should be: perfect for the design.
Create a new document at 1200 x 800 pixels with a resolution of 72dpi. Start off by importing all of your vector designs separately into a Photoshop canvas. In this case we divided our vectors into 3 separate smart objects and dragged them into the Photoshop canvas.
How cool! The lego blocks look fantastic! The only thing I would change is having different colours per letter at the end, it's a little hard to make our PSD. Other than that, very neat idea! I remember Google doing this with their logo not too long ago as well.
Most people may not notice it, but the text that you use in your artwork can either make it or break it. There are a few basics that can point you in the right way to typography, and that is what we are learning today. First off, we will just show examples of designs with text and we will discuss what makes it good, and what makes it bad.
In this tutorial, I????????ll show you how to mix vector elements and watercolor effects with text to create a stunning design. It????????s a quick process that depends heavily on good choices of images and colors - Fabio

In this tutorial we learnt how to mix some vector ornaments with a word to produce a nice typography. We also played around with vintage textures and cliping masks that gave our image a not so "clean" look. You can create many variations of this effect. Below I added a Radial Gradient so the textures only appear where the logo is. Again it's all about experimentation.
Create a new document with the size is 8?X4? at 100 dpi. Choose the Type tool (T) and create a text layer for each word in your title (our is 9tutorials and Photoshop) .
1. Live Trace Advantage: Infinitely faster than tracing your image by hand, and will allow you to adjust the lines afterward if the tracing isn't perfect. Disadvantage: It's automated and doesn't produce the 'perfect' result as if you hand traced it. Live Trace Tutorial
There are a few words to know about typography before we get into the subject. It is very subjective, but there are some rules that need to be followed. This may be confusing but I'll try to make understanding the core concept easy.
