Photoshop Tutorials » Effect » Floating

This tutorial will walk you through how to create a grungy floating island, complete with a watercolor textured background. The tutorial focuses heavily on how layer blending modes can be combined to great effect.

Now I am going to add 3 guides to my canvas so my menu is sized well. In my version of photoshop go to view>>new guide>> click horizontal and key in your size.

Paste in a photo of some fir trees and mountains. Go to select>color range then select shadows, and use the settings shown below. This will create a selection around the fir trees, which won't be perfect, but can be used for this kind of grungy, rough design. With the area around the trees selected hit delete, and then resize your image and give the layer a black color overlay effect.

You can duplicate a few more of the islands you've just created. Make them blur and scale them smaller so they look far away.

This tutorial will walk us through the basics of using Smart Objects. We will use this powerful new tool in Photoshop CS3 to create a composite sheet for printing multiple digital photos on a single document.

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to illustrate a USB key floating in the air and reflecting on a surface. We'll be adding numerous details that will make this illustration shine. Notice how the PSDTUTS name reflects off the floor in the illustration. These are the little details that add a degree of realism to your work.

I've done these Photoshop brushes. They are high resolution brushes to make compositions of floating islands. And I want to share them with you.

Step 8: Now we just need to apply some effects on our text. Double click your text layer to open up the Layer Style dialog box and use these settings:

Before we start, we need to have 5 different images. A nice sky as background, a cone-shaped mountain, patch of grasses, some roots and bushes.

Stroke the path using the following dynamic brush:

Step1: Setting up your work space. Create a new image using the dimension 800 x 600. Set the background color to white. Create a new layer, LayerNew Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N). Set the foreground color to #94e803

i would add a nice horizon to it i think, mountain range perhaps or a very distant coastline to give more depth, hen clouds could go further back up the sky as opposed to on the water surface
