Using AKVIS LIGHTSHOP we have finally spoiled the weather in this small town. Well, the town-dwellers will have to stay at home and drink their 5 o'clock tea near the fireplace. Do not believe the weathermen!
[23] Thanks for read this Photoshop Tutorial. I hope this is a good tutorial & you can use these Photoshop Techniques & the Final Image should look like as shown below.
I created an example similar to the one in the last blog. The bottom image has two layers, one set to Linear Dodge and the other set to Linear Burn. In the top image, the same rectangles were combined on one layer and set to Linear Light. The lighter color does brighten the base layer considerably?but not as much as Linear Dodge does; the dark color doesn?t darken the base layer as much as Linear Burn does.
10 . Duplicate this layer. Name the elk left copy layer elk left down. Click edit=> transform=>rotate and set the rotation to -30 degrees. Use the move tool to orient it over the neck and body.
8. Drag the middle of the line down to make it darker, or up to make it lighter. You can also combine these two techniques to make a dark or light blurry vignette.
7. Insert a layer called grass. Select the grass brush preset from ps7, set at 50 pixels. Set foreground and background colors to black, Paint in the grass at the elks feet on this new layer so that the grass fills the lower crescent of moon and goes to the bottom of the elk leg stubs.
4. Click on the background layer. Open the Sunset. Using the move tool. Drag the sunset image onto the lighthouse canvas. Click Edit=>Transform=> Scale. Set the width to 65% and the Height to 65 % and apply.? Use the Move tool to Position it so that the bottom of the sunset is at the top of the water.
This graph represnets the distribution of shades in the image. All the darks translate into dark sades and lights t lighter shades and are distribted along the normal curve. When am image is too dark, most of the colors will fall in the lower part ofthe graph. Hence, we will need to take these darker shades and translate them into slightly lighter shades.
That's all for now folks ....... well not quite! It occurred to me that you might wonder what uses your could put your lightsaber to? So I decided to have a little fun with one I made earlier, lol. The background on the image below comes from royalty and copyright free web collection (providing it is used for non-commercial purposes). The two male figures (I am certain you will recognize them), came from my sons posters. The female ...... well, will leave you guessing on that one, lol.
Go to Filter - Blur.and select the Radial Blur option.try to get the exact same settings, this is very important for the Travelling At Speed Of Light Effect.
It is possible to change and adjust the colours of a digital image as much as we please, but to do so it is necessary to understand something about colours and how they combine and work together. The basic colour modes are Red, Green, Blue (RGB) and Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black (CMYK). They are known as colour spaces and they determine how images are seen and reproduced.
Notice the main black line through the middle. This will be our lightning bolt. But to isolate it, we first invert (Image > Adjustments > Invert or Ctrl+I) it:
Neon Lights On Black Tutorial Photo Manipulation Tutorials In this basic photoshop cs tutorial we will be doing some image manipulation. We will take an image of a person and use photoshop filters to create a neon effect.
In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial, we're going to look at how to add colorful streaks of light to a photo. You've probably seen these light streaks used in ads for everything from shampoo to cellphones, and in fact they were used most recently in a cool ad for a new cellphone from Sprint and Samsung. Creating them is as easy as drawing a path with Photoshop's Pen Tool and then stroking the path with a brush, with a couple of simple layer styles used to add the actual color and light effect. It's all fairly easy, but if you've never used the Pen Tool before or you're not sure how to draw paths, you might want to check out our Making Selections With The Pen Tool tutorial first, where I cover everything you need to know about drawing and editing paths with the Pen.
In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial, we're going to look at how to bring focus and attention to a specific part of an image using a simple and easy to create lighting effect. This technique also happens to be a good way to add interest to a photo that could use a little more visual snap.
Title: Linear light effect Cloudy or grey skies to warm sunny fast Description: Free photoshop tutorial for artists to learn to linear light effect to add light to images.
The ray of light is blended into the photo but it doesn't seem very strong. To increase the visiblity of the ray of light, we'll use the Levels tool (Image> Adjustments> Levels or Ctrl+L). Drag the right input slide towards the left to increase visibility. You may also press the Auto button to have Photoshop automatically set it to an appropriate level.
Improve your portraits with this easy and effective foreground lighting effect. In this Photoshop tutorial, you will learn how to dim the background to add focus to the subject. This effect may sound simple, but it does an exceptional job fixing portraits with busy backgrounds.
Want your images to have effects that?ll make it stand out more and show up well on every background tones? With Photoshop, you could achieve these effects for your images by its features that work on light and dark edges. These allow you to work on bringing out the best edges of your image ? lighten or darken it, anyway you please to match on background tones and make it stand out more. Through highlighting edges of your photo, you also highlight its details. The method of unsharp mask and others like the difference of Gaussians increase the change in brightness close to each step. This technique?s standard version adds a bright halo along the bright edge of the step and a dark halo along the dark edge. Depending on what effect you?d like for your image, there are advantages in just using one or the other. Using both may not do very much to improve your image, though. There are several advantages of using any of the effects for the edges on real images. One is that it reduces interference between steps or detail and the haloes from other, nearby steps. Another thing, the light or dark haloes make other features of the image stand out better from the background. Start doing this effect on your images using Photoshop by following several procedures: 1st step is duplicate the layer holding the image 2nd step - apply the conventional unsharp mask 3rd step - set the layer blending mode to ?Darken? or ?Lighten?. However, you must understand that this only works for 8 bit per channel images ? those that can be put into layers but it could function also on 16 bit per channel pictures with Optipix plug-in that allows direct selection of dark or light edges. If you are not sure about which edge halo to use, there are general rules regarding such: 1. On light background tones, light edges don?t show up well and vice versa on dark ones. 2. The halo should lie on the background, not on the foreground. This technique helps the feature stand out without having to change its brightness values. Sometimes the following rules are in conflict. It is necessary, then, to try several combinations to decide which is best. You can try both edges, light edges only, dark edges only. You can experiment since different regions of your image may call for different answers. As you experiment for the best results, you?ll come to know that using unsharp mask filter may drive you to add too much additional local contrast. Understand that though adding some local contrast can make a bland ...
9.Now to give a color lightning effect, Go to Layer>New Adjustment layer>Hue/saturation and select the "use previous layer to create clipping mask" and then we make sure that we also select the colorize option
In this tutorial we'll be isolating an object from it's background, and then applying various lighting/texturing effects to different parts of the image to create the piece 'Smokey Dancer'.
This tutorial will teach you how to give your photos amazing lighting effects that really make them pop. Best of all the techniques are covered in just 10 steps, making ordinary to amazing a simple transition!
This new PLUS Tutorial is titled "How to Make 3D Neon Light Typography," by Alex Beltechi. He is a digital artist and illustrator who has written tutorials for us before and created PLUS material, such as a unique artistic brush set. You can find him on Behance here.
Next choose the Burn Tool (O) and with a soft medium brush, just brush the edge closest to the coffee cup to give it some shadow as shown. You can also give it a bit (less) shadow on the other side of the shape too, but make sure that it's light in the middle.
I analyzed the style of the product. The camera is sleek, dark, shiny and reflective. It also has a very limited color scheme, and it gives a great importance to function. There are no sharp edges, so the camera is comfortable while being held and used for potentially long periods of time. I decided that my illustration should be predominantly dark, but in need of an agent that would create interest and add contrast to the image. That agent would become light painting, a new and exciting style that people are experimenting with around the world. I thought of this because light paintings are normally made using cameras set on low shutter speed. That's how I would make the piece artistic- by using traveling beams of light. These beams should also be curved, something that harmonizes with the ergonomics of the camera.
Now press Ctrl+T to transform and rotate and enlarge the rectangles as shown. Now normally you'd press Enter when you're finished, but this time don't let go just yet. Instead, right-click and you will get a pop up menu showing you other types of transforms you can do. Choose Perspective. The reason it's important to do this in one step is so that you don't lose your bounding box. So take the top left two points and bring them closer together so that the light appears to be coming from one place and spreading out.
Replicating the beauty of nature has always captured the interest of many. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a sunlit sky, an old rusty fence with a few winding vines with spring flowers, and the dramatic light that's shining through.
A few weeks ago a friend of mine had published an article on my blog about Light painting. I was really impressed by all the effects these guys can create taking photos with long exposures. Then I thought it would be a nice idea to do that in Photoshop. So in this tutorial I will show you an easy, and very fast way, to create a light painting in Photoshop.
A good solution would be to put both the before and after images within your tutorial_image div, and apply some CSS to the tutorial_image:hover state to show/hide the required image. In this way, the same HTML could be used in the RSS reader to show both images, and JS would not be required to support the mouseover. This would have the added bonus that both images are loaded at the time of page-load, and there would be no delay between the first mouse-over and the image appearing.
Take an image of a fireworks display and turn it into an intense sensation of speed. Manipulate natural lighting to fill a motion filled scene. Use masks to blend the effect over a car image to make the car appear to be in motion. This tutorial shows you exactly what to do. Let's get moving.
Also as you add extra layers on you can always use the Eraser tool to remove some parts of a layer and leave others so that they blend together well. This is generally a matter of playing around with the image until it looks right. Also note that you can use Layer Masks to do this without losing any image data, but because I never used Masks when I was learning Photoshop, out of habit I still do things the old (and probably a bit dumb) way :-)
Thanks for posting it but this kind of tutorial is a viewed a thousand times and honestly the result is not so nice. The all image is blurry and darkish, there is way to much diffusion and i don't see why using an external plug-in just to add some lighting ? And talking about lighting it seems odd to have the front of the castle so bright when the sun is on the other side , uh ?
Now you can add some textI've used Myriad Pro Light. Although this effect looks very cool and sort of complicated to achieve, it's really easy and can be done pretty quickly. Using Render Clouds, blurs, and blend modes, we can create really amazing lighting effects.
"In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to adjust the contrast and saturation of an image using the Soft Light Layer mode. This is a quick and easy alternative from using our traditional Levels or Curves adjustments. I'll show you how it can be applied to a nature landscape photo or a portrait studio photo.." - Yanik Chauvin
This tutorial is inspired by the work of the Lichfaktor collective. You should really take a look at their pictures, which are pure urban poetry. I basically wanted a simple way to create similar light effects without freezing my bones outside at night.

A couple of subscribers left their comment on a previous post that collated a range of inspiring graphic artwork from digital artists across the world. The commentors asked how the light stream effect on some of the pieces was created. I did a little research and picked up a couple of tips from similar tutorials to present a walkthrough on how to create intense light streaks flowing around an object or person.
A technique often used in advertising these days, is these glowing lines. They look like light motion trails. If you ever wondered how to create these kind of lines, here is how I do it
About nine years ago, when I started The Photoshop Roadmap, tutorials were all about special effects. In fact, no matter how ugly, any kind of effect was well received, because designers and artists were starting to discover the Web as an invaluable source of inspiration.
As we continue learning more about off-camera lighting, we need to examine the beam of light coming from the light source. How big is it? How close it is? Which angle is it coming from? How much did I pay for it, again?

Fantasy art scenes are usually handled with a liberal sprinkling of Photoshop plug-in fairy dust ??? but you don???t have to slavishly follow that route. By creating your own brushes in Adobe Illustrator, and using scanned elements with Photoshop, it???s a simple process to create otherworldly scenes that are alive with glow effects and shafts of virtual light.
From sparkles, pixie dust effects, coloured light spots and light beams, to using splatter effects as a form of lighting, it???s all here. Some of the tricks you???ll learn are created through cunning use of stock photography, while others make use of Photoshop???s built-in tools.

I'm actually pretty new to light painting, although I'm seeing it around more and more. These works are just great, feel free to post more like this :)
In fact, we don't need that small glowing circle because we can easily create one with Photoshop by going to Filter >Render > Lens Flare, but this image saved us a few steps ^_^
In order to create the sparks we will use the amazing brush engine. Add a new layer, inside the ???Light Effects??? layer, set white for the color and follow the images below.
In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial, we're going to learn how to take an ordinary photo and give it more focus and impact by creating a light source and shining it on the main subject through a window. You'll need the photo you want to add the lighting effect to, as well as a photo of the window you want to use. If you don't have a photo of a window, just do a quick search on the internet for one, since it's really just the shape of the window we'll be using, not the window itself.
In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial, we're going to see how to add focus to an image with light, using Photoshop's Lighting Effects filter and multiple light sources.
In this tutorial we will be creating a nice lighting effect for the sky after enhancing its colors. You can apply this technique to any photo but I think it works best with the sky!

My previous How to Create Intense Light Streaks in Photoshop article turned out to become the most popular tutorial here on Blog.SpoonGraphics, so it seems to be quite a hot topic! It makes sense, therefore to take another look at the intense light effects area of design and experiment with a range of techniques to produce our own vibrant artwork.
Nikolay Vanchev is a very talented 20-year-old graphic designer & art director. I was a friend to him on Deviantart but im in love with his work since he published his "Typography is not a solution"-artwork. Together with Dimo Trifonov the bulgarian launched his new website nufabric.org.
Now go to the duplicated layer and select all; Select->All (or Ctrl+A), then copy the layer (Ctrl+C). Now, view the layer mask by "Alt+click" -ing on it.
Now we'll take it to the next level by adding a bright burst of light rays emanating from the center of the image. At this point, it helps to expand the size of the window so that it's slightly larger than the image. This gives you some extra room around the edges to use the tools more easily. We also have some options here that will influence how this brighter highlight will look. Either way, we need to work in a new layer, so click the new layer icon to create one above our base layer.
Open up the vector curves you downloaded from Vecteezy in Illustrator. Select the curves and press Ctrl+C. Switch back to Photoshop and press Ctrl-V. Select Paste As Smart Object.
Other titles I thought of for this Photoshop fire tutorial were Burning Down the House, The Roof Is On Fire, and Fire! Fire! Fire, but then I realized how cliche that would be.I obtained my house photo from PhotoSpin.com (PhotoSpin #0780029).
Quite impressive for photomanip-enthusiasts. I'll try to apply this to the next piece I work on, and see what I end up with. I tend not to use Screen much, for lack of understanding how it works, but I'll explore it a bit more.
Select a green color (it will end up white in the end and then back to green, so you can start off with white, I wanted to show you how it would look in the end) for your foreground and black for your background and make a radial gradient.
Select the light bulb layer. Adjust the Hue/Saturation (CTRL+U). Drag the Hue on the top to whatever color you like, look at the number, remember what it is and hit okay. Example: When I made the purple one, the slider said -67, so that's the number you're going to want to remember. Select the additional glow layer, CTRL+U and type in whatever number that was from the previous one. This will adjust both of these so they match, and you have a new light! Repeat this until you have all of the lights you need.
Sometimes, when watching film, I was really impressive by many wonderful sightseeing which we could never see in the real-life. Now, with Photoshop, I am able to create those kinds of special effects for my favorites sightseeing images. The final result is the peaceful, mysterious and beautiful sunset on the highland. I hope that I could see this effect even just once in my life. Now, let 's do this.
Step 6 Now heading back to the light rays shapes layer, right click and duplicate the layer and then using CTRL + T rotate multiple copies of this shape simply rotating and scaling as you like until you get a similar or desired effect.
Step 6: Bring a little color to our light! We can't apply color directly to the white light we has created with Hue/Saturation or Color Balance so we will use a little trick here. Create a new layer and use the Brush tool with a soft brush and orange foreground (#ffa800). Now paint your photo like this:
Step 7: Now hit Ctrl + F (This is a shortcut that applies the last filter to the layer) 2 more time, or simply repeat the previous step 2 more times. Step 8: With the top layer still selected, Hit Ctrl + J 2 more times, or simply duplicate the top layer 2 more times. (If the light is still not showing up well, duplicate until you get the desired amount of light) Step 9: Merge all of the 3 zoomed layers into one. (You can do this by hitting Ctrl + E twice. Make sure you have the top layer selected, or you will merge the wrong layers.)
The next thing to do is write out your text. Using #f1aa12 and a nice, large font write out your text on the canvas. I wrote out FAMOUS. The font I used above is Arial Black, size 82 pt. Right-click the layer in the layer's pallette then go into the Blending Options. Use the following layer styles:

This tutorial has proven to be very popular as it shows how to make a sign/banner for a business or website using a variety of blending options to show light and shadow, which leaves you with a great effect at the end which would really stand out on any website/image.
This tutorial is split into two parts to cover both basic concepts and advanced techniques and discussion. In this primer, we will look at the ideas behind creatively reinterpreting the light in an image. We do this to change the focus or dramatic impact of the image, usually because the available lighting wasn't what we needed, or because our intent for the image might have changed. The techniques can be useful for product photography, portraits, fine art, or whatever strikes our fancy.
This type of magic light is easy to make, once you know the steps involved in the process. You will need to know how to work the magic inside the Brush Engine of Adobe Photoshop, cause that's the place where everything happends. Also you will be required to know a little bit about Paths not too much, just to draw a Path and Stroke it with a Brush. Once you know all this, you're ready to go. The tutorial is quite easy to follow and I tried to add as many screen shots as required to understand it. Remember that you MUST try different values for the effects used (according to image size, resolution, etc.) and also try different approaches maybe you will find a better way of doing it with better results. If that happends, I would like to know about it, so drop me a comment. What the hell. drop me a comment anyway, I'll be glad to read it.
This dark to light method is different from what I usually do. Normally, I start my paintings with a middle-toned background and paint in the shadows (darker areas) first, then the lighter ones.
Today we are going to take an object/text, change it from 2-D to 3-D and give it some realistic effects. We are going to be using Illustrator to create the object, then bring it into Photoshop to add highlights and shadows.
With your new blank document open, grab the Type tool from the Tools palette or by pressing T on your keyboard. Make sure black is selected as your foreground color. If it isn't, just press D on your keyboard to reset it to black. Choose your font in the Options Bar at the top of the screen. Thick, heavy fonts work best for this effect. Then, go ahead and enter your text. I'm going to use "Impact", and I'll type the words "LIGHT BURST":

There is nothing wrong with painting an apple red, but if a green neon light is shining beside it, there can be an entire shade of green cast on the side of it's surface. The purpose of this tutorial is to get to the more advanced techniques of adding reflective light colors onto these surfaces.
Step 7: Use the Eraser Tool (E) with a soft brush to erase the outer side of the light. Press Ctrl-D to deselect the current selection. Repeat step 6 and 7 with the other side. Now the light looks more real!

Level 1: add a new layer and name it Lightening Level 2: set the foreground colour to black, and background to white. Make sure the Lightening layer is select. Using the Gradient tool apply a Black-to-White Linear gradient by dragging the cursor from the top left to the bottom right. Level 3: Now apply Filter->Render->Difference Clouds. Level 4: Invert the tones by selecting Image->Adjustment->Invert (Ctrl-I) You can start making out the lightening across the middle of the image Level 5: Now accentuate the lightening bolt using Image->Adjustment->Level (Ctrl-L). Move the middle slider (gamma) to the right setting its value to 0.1 and move the left slider (shadows) to the right for a value around 150-160 Level 6: Using a large soft brush and the colour set to black, clean up the image. You want to keep the main lightening bolt, but get rid of other stray areas. Level 7: Adjust the colour using Image->Adjustment->Hue/Saturation (Ctrl-U). Check the Colorize box and move Hue to around 220 and the Saturation to 35. The values are up to you. But my selection gave a blueish tint. Level 8: Change the Blending mode of the Lightening layer to Screen Level 9: Just like any layer, you can transform and manipulate the lightening bolt. I used Edit->Free Transform (Ctrl-T) to move the bolt around as shown. Level 10: Optional: I applied Filter->Render->Lens Flare to the wheel to exaggerate the effect of the lightening on the front rim. That's it. The good thing about this effect is each attempt will result in a different lightening bolt shape. So if you're not happy with the results of step 5...you can go back (use History) and start again! Not only that but is is very versatile. You can use it for siggies, banners, a persons photo, an nature shot. etc.
Create a new layer, (Shift+Ctrl+N) Change your pencil size to 1 pixel, and draw the branching sparks coming off the main lightning strike. Like I have below, it does not have to be exactly like I have.
Make another new layer and select the eyedropper tool again and click the yellow. Use a small soft brush to draw some lines around the outside of the bulb:
The first thing I did was duplicate my background layer (ctrl+J while selecting that layer) and apply a motion blur to it. This kind of gives the effect of rain/wind. Then I got the lightning result from my tutorial result and added color and added a layer mask to it (you can add color by using ctrl+B or ctrl+U. Using the layer mask, I picked out different lightning bolts. I duplicated the lightning bolt layers to get different bolts.
First, lets create a nice background for our effect. Open up a new Photoshop file, and fill the background with black. Now, create a new layer and fill it with white. We will use the Lighting Effects filter (Filters > Render > Lighting Effects) on this layer to create a nice soft gradient. Next to the Intensity slider, choose any color that you like as long as it is somewhat dark. For this example, I have chosen a dark pink/purple.
Add a little atmosphere to the object by placing a few blobs of colour on a new layer. Changing the blending mode to Soft Light will give a slight green glow to the object as if it is reflecting the green light from the intense glowing lines, overall adding a little more realism.
Create a rectangle selection and create a new layer, continue to use Gradient tool with information above (Linear Mode) to drag a gradient like the picture below
As a request of a friend, I decided to make a basic light saber tutorial. To begin this tutorial, select the "Rounded Rectangle Tool" with a radius of 100% and draw the below shape using white as the color.
5. Now you are pretty much done with your lightning. You can now create whatever style lightning you want, without having to do filters etc. It is much more realistic, much more you.
Next we have to select the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 10 px and draw the basis reserved for many - colored lights that would compose our picture. The color in this case is black.
3. As you can see, this is already turning all of our light colors into vibrant white squares. Turn down the radius a bit to get a more desirable effect (3 for a picture this size should be fine):
This tutorial will teach you how to create the popular abstract structure lights technique just like the experts use in their designs. Even though it is an easy technique to learn, you will be able to design an amazing effect!
I have to say, if you know a bit of Layer Styles and the Brush engine in Photoshop you will be able to create amazing effects. It will depend exclusively on your imagination and playing with the tool. Sometimes just changing a some settings and you get a totally different effect.
Now, you have one basic bolt. You can create more bolts to give the lighting more variation. If want more variating, create more bolts using different settings for the Wave filter. This is to create each bolt a unique bolt. You don't have to create ten of them, just 3 to 6 will be enough. Or, if you are lazy, you can just duplicate this basic bolt that you already have (Ctrl + J).
And that's all there is to creating this lightning effect. Here's how mine came out after adding a bit of brushing around the bolts, and dropping a background image in place. The possibilities for using something like this are endless, try it out on your next project, or design and you'll see how quickly this technique can add some real enhancements to your creations.
5: Now, to fancy-up the effect a little more, duplicate your curvy line layer and Filter > Blur > Motion Blur: 30º, 200px. Duplicate the motion blurred layer again, and Edit > Free Transform and rotate this other layer in a creative way. I suggest that you also try Filter > Distort > Pinch: 100% for more fluid motion blur effects.
Now apply Filter > Distort > Pinch with the following settings: Amount->-100%. And then press Ctrl+F (to repeat the operation). Set the Blending Mode for the layer as "Hard Light".
You want to brush in the middle area to make it look like is overloading and giving off crazy light streams. So click around a few times. This is how mine ended up like:
Find an computer case image on the web or take a photo of your own computer case. I used the image below for this tutorial, you can use it if you like:

9. My final product is below. I think it looks like a scene from space with a nebula cloud covering the light and such. You can expand on it and put even cooler effects around it. Maybe some stars...
3. Now adjust your levels, with the settings as follows. The only setting that is flexible is the 130, depending on how much clouds you want around your lightning, you can make that higher or lower. Now rotate the canvas 90? clockwise (or counterclockwise). Now adjust the hue/saturation, check the box that says 'colorize' and drag your Hue and Saturation sliders to get your color, leave the Lightness color alone.
The whole process took me about 35 minutes, one thing I think is really cool is to apply the color dodge blending option to folder, and put blurred elements inside of it. Using it you can create some really amazing light effects.
9. Create a new layer outside the folder. Select Lasso Tool, set the Feather to 15% and make a selection. Press D to reset the colors to black and white, and go to Filter > Render Clouds. Set the blend mode for this layer to Soft Light.
This tutorial goes through the steps of making a very funky piece of wallpaper. The main focus of this tutorial is on the random lighting aspect, based on Adobe Photoshop's "Clouds" tool, but I'll also go into creating what I call a layer of "Canopy Lighting", by using a Noise Gradient. (Noise Gradient is only present in Photoshop 6.0 and later versions.)
6. Go to filter > render > lighting effects and use these setting. Make sure you set texture channel to Red and put the bar all the way to mountainous.
Volumetric light means that your lighting is taking on the physical properties that allow it to move around objects instead of just going straight through them. With a little practice, you can use this technique in space scenes to make your work look like this:
Here???s a nifty little lighting effect that we can create in Adobe Photoshop using the Lighting Effects filter. It???s a really simple way to give a flat graphic some flare!
In this tutorial, you will use a few household objects to create some super photographic resources. Then follow this Adobe Photoshop tutorial manipulates the images with various tools and techiques to produce a vibrant design made up of intense light streams effect. Of course, you can use the same technique to create a new image. Have a try!
In this tutorial, it will demonstrate you to create light effect in fireworks. To make this, the idea is simple, but nice. You can create one as logo or use as button. The color combination is changeable. You can make a different one by changing the colors.
In this tutorial, it will demonstrate you how to design a special purple lighting effect scene. It is like our previous abstract effect tutorials. A lot of brushes functions are involved as you may be aware that, brushes can be used to create lots of shapes and sharpen image.
Open an image into Photoshop. This Photoshop effect doesn't work with every photo, so you'll need to pick a good photo to start with. A photo that is compatible with this Photoshop tutorial is one with a visible sky and that is partially covered with trees, clouds, etc versus a clear blue sky. Below is an example of a good image for this effect.
Now lets give some initial lighting effects. First we need to create a new layer (apple+shift+n), call it glow 1 and fill it with white. Now we are going to give the background a glow, so go into filters>render>lighting effects. Change your settings so it looks something like below.
I have seen many Photoshop tutorials on creating lightning. Most of them seem to use the difference clouds filter to achieve this. Granted, it is a cool lightning effect. The problem with it for me is that it is so random. You really have no control over which way the lighting is going to go. If you are looking for a great burst of lightning, and direction doesn't matter, then this is a good way to go. If however you are looking to control which way your lightning is going to go, in a just a few easy steps, then this tutorial is for you. Let's get started. If you prefer check out the Create Lightning Video Tutorial.
The 3 Point Light setup is a kind of "standard" setup that 3D artists use to render their still images of objects. It consists of the main light (key light), the rim light (backlight) and the ambient light (fill light). The ambient light sets the overall mood of the image. For example, a sunset image will have an orange ambience. This means that everything has a slight hue of orange. The key light is the main light source, for example the sun or a spotlight. The backlight is usually placed behind the object, opposite the key light, and is used to illuminate the object so that it pops out from the background. As a general rule of thumb, the key light and the backlight usually have opposite "temperatures". If the keylight is yellow (hot), the backlight is blue (cold) and vice versa.

Sales and marketing people have known for years that there is an incomprehensible mental link between the quality of light and the human emotions that they create. Cold light conveys feelings of isolation, loneliness, and emptiness - feelings you'd hardly want from a product, but very useful if you want to exploit perceptions to enhance before-and-after images (eg. in fitness magazines, when hawking health supplements, etc). Exploring this link with colored lights is an easy approach, but un-necessary given the tools at your disposal with a high resolution photograph and Photoshop!
Sales and marketing people have known for years that there is an incomprehensible mental link between the quality of light and the human emotions that they create. Warm light conveys feelings of security, comfort, and relaxation - all the qualities you'd want from a new home. Exploiting this link with colored lights is an easy approach, but replacing all lighting in your home for a photo shoot is un-necessary given the tools at your disposal with a high resolution photograph and Photoshop!
In this tutorial I will show you a very popular effect that gets a you a very cool lightning effect. The first thing you need to do is give your picture some texture. So go ahead and make a gradient.
4. Grab the gradient tool and make a gradient going from black to what ever color you want, as I did below. drag from about middle of the light ball and down to where the light balls cirular shape stops, so you get the light ball dimentions.
1. Create a new image with a Transparent background and a resolution of 72. Rename this layer "BG". Size doesn't particularly matter, however big you want the image to be is fine, but I suggest it to be 300x300 or bigger. 2. Press CTRL+D to reset the colors. Fill the layer "BG" with black. 3. Create a new (blank) layer above the layer "BG". Name it "GRADIENT". 4. It's gradient time! Select the gradient tool. Now Change your foreground color (black) to Red: FF0000. Now go into the gradient Proporties and select "Foreground To Transparent". 5. Now make two small gradient lines. They should look like this: 6. Now select your Foreground Color (it should be red). Now go to "H" (Hue), and type in: 30. Your color should look orange. 7. Repeat Step 5 with this new color. 8. Select your Foreground Color again, and type in 60 for the hue. Your color should look yellow. Now repeat step 5. 9. Now go to hue and type in 120. Repeat step 5. 10. Next go to hue and type in 180. Repeat step 5. 11. Next go to hue and type in 240. Repeat step 5. 12. Now go to hue and type in 300. Repeat step 5. Your image should look something like this: 13. You can stop here, merge your layers and add graphics and text or whatnot, but I suggest you read on, you might get a better result. 14. Merge your layers (Shift + CTRL + E). Now duplicate the layer. Name this layer "WAVE". 15. Next, go to Filter > Distort > Wave. Now click the Randomize button until you get a desired result. (click the image to make it bigger) 16. Go to Blending Options. You can use whatever looks best for your image, but I suggest using Pin Light. 17. Merge your layers (Shift + CTRL + E). Now Duplicate the layer. Name this layer "TWIRL". Go to Filter > Distort > Twirl with the following proporties: Angle=256. 18. Now Go to Blending options, and use whatever looks best for your image. I suggest Lighten. 19. Now Merge your layers (Shift + CTRL + E). Now Duplicate the layer. Name this layer "BLUR". Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with the following proporties: Radius=2.5-4 (whatever looks best for your image). (click the image to make it bigger) 20. You're done! You can add graphics and text and make your image look very nice. Your final product should look something like this: (click the image to make it bigger) Tutorial made by PimpMyCom Thank you and I hope I've helped.
1) Create a new document. Make sure the background color is Transparent and the resolution is 72. Now press the "D" key to reset the color palette. Now rename your background layer to "ONE". 2) Fill layer ONE with white by holding CTRL and pressing BACKSPACE. If this does not work for whatever reason, just take the paing can tool and fill it with white. make sure, though, that your colors are reset when you're done (If you're unsure, just press the "D" key again). 3) Grab the brush tool. Depending on the size of your document, select one of the soft round brushes, and make the brush size fairly large, yet not too big (estimate based on the following). You should be able to make about 9 to 10 soft cirular-looking brushstrokes, however make sure you only click the mouse button once, so not to make lines of any sort. Refer to the sample image below: 4) Invert your canvas by pressing CTRL + I. Now go to Filter > Distort > Wave with the following settings:
Light boxes, or light tents, come dear, and they are not things which are used very frequently, unless you specialise in that type of photography. If you wish to take pictures of an item around 3x4 inches or smaller you can save yourself some money by making a light box from a two litre ice-cream container. The white plastic makes an excellent diffuser and light spreading reflector.
Ctrl+Click to get the selection. Contract the selection by 3 pixels. Create a new layer. Apply Black to white gradient in radial mode. Change layer mode to "linear light" for this layer.

There is an easy way to simulate this 'neon glow' effect (also known as 'painting with light') by adjusting a photoshop brush. Learn how to make a brush taper, change colour, and fade.
I am going to show step by step how to do it. First, fill your document -alt+f- with a color you like, I chose #C8B360. The size of the document is 600600px.
If you are shooting wide open, which is at the camera's largest aperture, your depth of field will be correspondingly shallow. That means your focus is going to be even more critical than otherwise. Pick a point that needs to be sharp and really pay attention to keeping that point sharp. Generally, if you are shooting people, the most important thing to keep sharp is the eyes. When I am shooting people I focus on the eyes, shoot, re-focus and shoot again and then do it all over again. I can't tell you how much I hate to be editing and find that I have a potentially great shot, but out of focus eyes ruin the picture. I have found that if I am worried about an image not being sharp, I am usually right. Pixels are cheapshoot enough to make sure you have your shot!
1. The first thing that needs to be done before you start on your illustration is to determine the light source. This should either be decided in the sketch or determined by the photo you are working from. In the example that I am using to show you, the main light source is the sun and the secondary light source is the cell phone screen.
So yea, you can accomplish a lot with curves.. but more if you go into details with that tool. The tutorial is still going one step further to ensure that you only get the effect using curves, where you want curves to take effect.
2. Select your elliptical marquee tool and set it to a fixed size of 30 pixels wide by 150 pixels high. Use this marquee on your canvas and click Edit=>fill set to 50% gray, normal mode, 100% opacity.
We're starting off with this image which is perfect for the job as this chap has his hands raised, almost as if he is expecting some lightning to shoot from them. Well Mr, you shall have some lightning in about 10 steps.
First find an image to use. In this tutorial I used a wallpaper of Alexis Bledel and resized it. Make sure the image you choose is darker otherwise you won't get the same effect as me. Here is the stock image.
In this tutorial, we will use a simple masking technique to create a beautiful soft light effect on your image. Although there is a lighting tool built into Photoshop, this technique makes the image more defined and also with this technique, you can tell your audience where the focal point of the image is. Now lets get started.
In this tutorial you will learn how to create different lighting effects using the render filter to get professional and beautiful effects on photographs.
Ok, we would now want to remove the leftovers of the clouds around the lightning. This part is a bit tricky, but also lets you play with the end product. We would remove the clouds using the Brightness/Contrast option in the Image menu, under Adjust. Open the dialog box and you will see the Brightness and Contrast bars.
To add a new light drag the light icon [ ] on the bottom of the Lighting Effects window onto the point that you want the light. The selected light's properties will editable on the right side panel. To kill a light, drag it onto the trash icon [ ]. When you are done customizing your lighting, hit OK.

Switch over to your Channels palette for a moment (it's grouped in beside the Layers palette). You'll see your selection saved as a new channel named "Alpha 1" at the very bottom.
Load the Temple Stock 1? into Photoshop. Use any selection tool you prefer to make a selection around the temple (I would recommand you have a practice with Pen Tool, it's a good tool and in the future you may use it a lot for a variety of purpose ^^)
Select the gradient tool, make sure the seting are like in the picture. Then drag and drop diagonally from the u-left corner to the down-right corner. You should obtain something like this.
