Now "Ctrl" click the "glass" text layer to create a selection around it and go to "Selection" then "Modify" and lastly "Contract" by 1. 1. Begin with a new file, 400x100, with #3E3B70 as your background color. Then take the Text Tool and type in something. Write some thing bold and big. (i recommend to use a bold and big font so that effects can take place and you can see them clearly. On a thin font these effects might not take place.)For font color use #187485. 6. Make your white text layer invisible. Duplicate your background layer and put it on top of text layer but under the invisible black layer. We will duplicate the text in the same way, and rotate it the same. Then we want to rasterize the text, to make it an image: Right-Click the text layer we just rotated and mirrored and choose Rasterize Type. Then we can choose the eraser tool and select a soft brush that is around the same size as the text height. For example: 1. Make a new document ( 100 high and 500 pixels wide) Now select the text tool and write some text i wrote ( Tuts4you.net) Click on the Type Tool and write something in your work area. I typed "Glass Text" using the Impact font. Your work area should look something like the image below. Next we will need some text. Heavy bold fonts work best here. I chose the font "Elegance" with a font size of 200 pt. This is my first tutorial, so please give me some feedback. I'm writing about the "glass" text effect, to enhance your plain font. This tutorial is a little vague, because the result can change with a few minor tweeks. So, let's begin, shall we? a) Holding down Ctrl click the Type layer to select it's transparency. Click on the Photo layer, then create a new layer above it. Fill the new layer with a dark color, such as black, by pressing X (to select Black as foreground color), and then Alt+Backspace (to fill). Then deselect (Ctrl+D). Rename this layer 'Highlight', or something to this extent. Set the blending mode for this layer to Overlay. b) With the Highlight layer still selected, go in the menu: Filter > Render > Lighting Effects... Set your texture channel to the bump map created earlier (possibly Alpha 1), then setup some nice lights, according to the Lighting Effects tutorial. Channel height set to 100 'Mountainous', may or may not look hoopy. When this is done, perhaps even change the blending mode to Color Dodge, or Screen... whatever appears the most groovy to your pulsating eyeballs. In addition to the Photo layer, try refracting a layer of black and white scan lines to produce highly detailed moire patterns. This tutorial can also be used to create chrome looking items. Throw down drop shadows, stone textures, disgruntled dots, and hopefully better effects you've come up with by now. Massage the pixels thoroughly, until they stimulate your eyeballs in return, and be sure to experiment until the persistantly unfolding depths of your mind push you to the brink of madness.
Step one: Start with a large black canvas, in your layers window make a new layer set. Name it Custom Glassy Text Effect. Now we are going to add some "gloss" to our text. Start off by right clicking on the layer preview image. Now click on select layer transparency. We'll begin this tutorial, by creating a new canvas with a size of your choice. Now hit "X" then "D" on your keyboard to make the foreground black and background white. Next select the text tool and choose the text you wish to work with. I chose "Palatino" as text at a size of 91.
This Photoshop tutorial will teach you how to create a glass text effect. |
