Non-destructive editing techniques describe ways to modify and adjust layers without actually changing the pixel content of the layer. This is a roundabout way to save time in Photoshop you don't actually save time on the front end, but you save lots of time and trouble on the back end if you need to go back and make new edits!
Duplicate the tiled background layer and name it as shadows. Place this layer under your camouflage dress layer. Ctrl-click on the layer mask of camouflage dress. Select the shadows layer and add a layer mask to it.
1. Open in Photoshop, an image of an ear and an image of an ear ring. 2. Copy and paste the ear ring onto a new layer of the photo with the ear. 3. Click Ctrl+T to enter Free Transform mode. Use the shape handles to resize the ear ring so it is proportionate to the ear. Summary: Ever wondered what your nose would look like if it were smaller. This tutorial will walk you through the steps for reducing the size of a nose in a photograph using Photoshop. Step-By-Step Instructions: 1. Open the photo that has the person's nose in Photoshop. 2. Use the Polygonal Lasso tool to select around the person's nose. 3. Click Ctrl+C to copy the nose.
Once you're happy with your panorama in the Photomerge dialog, click OK, and Photoshop will stitch the images together. In many cases, the tops and bottoms of the images may not line up perfectly so you'll have to crop those transparent areas for the final image. If there are any bad seams in the stitching, use the Healing Brush or the new CS2 Spot Healing Brush to smooth them out. This tutorial will show you how you can easily turn modern colored photos to monotone 40s style photographs like our sample below: Open up the image you want to cartoon, create a new layer and label it "lines" now select the "pen tool" and start drawing around the car do little bits at a time, make sure you get every little detail. when you've finished you should have something like this. And there you have it, an easy way to accent your photos or pictures. If you think the background has to much light or not light enough, you can change the brightness and contrast to give it a little more of an accent. 2. Starting off with the new rims you would like to add to your car. Using the Pen Tool (press P) carefully select around the wheel. Here's my selection. 3. Now go to the Paths pallete, right click on your Work Path, and select Make Selection with 0 radius and anti-aliased checked. 4. It should select your wheel, press Ctrl + x to cut it out. 5. Now switch back to your car picture, and press Ctrl + v to paste it down. Move it off to the side for now, and switch back to the original layer with the car on it. Zoom into 500-600%. 6. Using the Pen Tool again, cut out the old wheel. Finish your path. Goto the Paths palette, right click on the Work Path, and select Make Selection as before. 7. This time press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete the selection. Now it's time to make your new wheel fit! Make sure the wheel layer is behind the layer with the car on it. And move it roughly on top of the hole. 8. If your new wheel is clearly too big like mine is, with the wheel layer selected hit Ctrl + T (to transform it). Now hold down shift to maintain proportions and make your wheel smaller. 9. Still doesn't look right? Using either the Pen Tool as mentioned before or more simply, the Lasso tool cut out some more space around the wheel cavity, and press delete. This will enable more of your new wheel to show. 10. Finally, if your wheel does not look correct with the back one, then use Edit > Transform > Skew and/or Edit > Transform > Perspective. Play around with those until you find something that fits. 11. And here is my finished car with the new front rim! I had it looking good, but the more i played with it, the worse it got. Anyway, enjoy! Step 3: Choose Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation (or ctrl+U) ..When the dialog appears, click on the edit pop-up menu and choose Reds (you're only adjusting red tones in the selected flesh areas) 4. Most Sepia conversion techniques stop at this point - But the image can look washed out. To add the depth back into the image, set the top layer's blend mode to Color and reduce opacity to 80%, again this will depend on your image. For this tutorial we will give you a file with an Aerosmith photo and the Aerosmith Logo you are going to need them later download them here. Based on the feedback I got from another tutorial, Retouching pictures, where people were asking how to fix the alignment of the horizon, I decided to create a new tutorial for this specific task. This is a quick and cool effect that in the end, archives an infra-red photo effect.(all images are scaled down to 25%) Note if you are having problems with the above, instead click on your "photo" layer in your layer palette then Select >> Load Selection In the following video of Adobe Photoshop CS3, learn modifications to a car Audi RS6. This car is to change color, changed the tire and you put some accessories. One of the coolest things about Photoshop is the way it allows us to take multiple images and combine them into one composite or collage. Rather than using the digital equivalent of scissors and glue, Photoshop lets us blending images together in beautiful and creative ways. The parts of the image that are interesting to me are the lilypads and rocks in the water, the bridge, and some of the reddish foliage. But there is too much foliage, it looks too visually complex, and it distracts the eye. So I will crop some of it out. I choose my cropping point to keep some of the green bush in the upper right corner, otherwise there would be a black hole there in the corner which might tend to pull the eye. You're done! This simple brightening technique was useful in brightening the areas around the trees that were too dark before. This technique can be applied successfully to any image. Firstly, you should find a stock photo to work with. I prefer to use this one. Also you can use Google Images to find some interesting pictures you like. Ok, duplicate the background layer then press Ctrl+J and press Ctrl+Shift+U to make the image black-and-white. Figure 2 looks like a watercolor painting. Note how in addition to the smooth, dreamlike quality there is also a loss of detail and a muted contrast. But I wanted a bit more detail than a watercolor can provide, and I wanted a brightness range similar to the original slide. So I some adjustments to Figure 2 in Photoshop. I darkened the image and increased its saturation and contrast. Again, these adjustments can be made in any image editing software. But I still wanted to add back some detail. I can get this detail from the original image (Figure 1). Once you've downloaded the carbon fibre texture load up your image you want to carbon fibre, I'm using a honda s2000, just a random image off google. Right then start off by duplicating your image and selecting the "pen tool", I'm going to carbonize the bonnet so with the pen tool I'm going to select the bonnet (zoom in to ensure its nice and neat). Castle Coch is a picturesque and romantic folly just outside Cardiff and although pleased with the original image I felt that it could be further enhanced by a painterly effect. There are many types of filters we could use but in this project we are going to use a simple but very effective blur and blend mode technique to begin transforming the image whilst keeping control of the effect with Levels. Adding texture and a fancy border would also further enhance the overall effect of our image. We will be using layers throughout the project, which will enable us to make changes and adjustments to the image at any stage even after saving in layers To change brown hair to blond(er) I use several methods and which one will I use depends on the hair itself and on the lightning on the photo. In this tutorial I'll show you one of those methods. 1. Here we have two photographs - One, is a small, dark, low-resolution picture with tanned oiled skin, The other is a light, high resolution picture, with a white non-shiny skin colour - perfect contrast! This can make photos look like they were taken in day. You can also do the opposite of this tut and make photos taken during day appear like they were taken during the evening, although the extent of this little trick can be limited. In order for this rim change to look real, you need to find rims with the same perspective. You are going to want to find a picture with rims that are in the same direction or the exact opposite, so you can mirror it. Without the right rims, your rim change could end up looking really fake. Step 7. Add a layer mask on that layer (layer > layer masks > hide all), select the charcoal large smear brush and paint with white on the mask to reveal the charcoal specks. Now let's add some selective focusing to our image, this will help to concentrate on the two main soldiers in our image. Choose the Lasso from the tool box and draw around the two main figures (above left). Don't worry, it doesn't have to be a particularly accurate selection. When the two ends meet up the selection is complete and the marching ants appear (above right). 3. Select the top layer and invert it using Ctrl+I or (image - adjustments - invert). Then set the blending mode of that layer to color dodge and change the opacity to 80%. I was recently ask to convert a color photo to sepia tone. There are many ways it can be done but here is how I did it. Grab your image that needs to be converted. If it is a black and white photo make sure to convert it to RGB first. Otherwise go to step 2. The following image has a pretty obvious inclination. However you can correct it in a very simple way with Photoshop. The clouds will be our guide; in them we have traced a red line that shows the inclination angle. Set your foreground color to #C9CBCC, which is a Grey color and draw the tiny dots every inch or so as seen below by clicking. Now go to your list of brushes and 'MRCOOL' should be at the bottom of the list. Select this brush and then delete your original text layer. Create a new layer called 'face dark details'. Then go to window>brushes and apply the settings below. For the second diagram, you will need to double click on 'scattering' to access the settings for this particular option. Photography is the process of recording pictures by means of capturing light on a light-sensitive medium, such as a film or sensor. Light patterns reflected or emitted from objects expose a sensitive chemical or electronic medium during a timed exposure usually through a photographic lens in a device known as a camera that also stores the resulting information chemically or electronically. The word comes from the Greek words φως phos ("light"), and γραφις graphis ("stylus", "paintbrush") or γραφιη graphe ("representation by means of lines" or "drawing"), together meaning "drawing with light." Traditionally, the product of photography has been called a photograph commonly shortened to photo. Here is another very easy but cool tutorial to do. All you need is a picture of whatever comes to your mind. I am not going to get in to introduction because there is nothing to introduce. Go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. Go to Image > Adjustments > Shadow and Highlights. Set the Shadows to 50 and Highlights to 0. Then Image > Adjustments > Posterize. Set the levels to 6. Using the photo example below, we will learn how to create the DOF to eliminate the background and make the butterfly and the flower stand out. This tutorial will teach you how to give your photos that extra punch. With regular 35mm negatives they are processed C-41 method and slides are processed E-6 ... if you processed your regular 35mm negatives like you would process slide film this si the look you would get. Now you can do it on the computer. and it will look realistic. This is great to get that editorial fashion look. First choose the color you want your eyes to be, I choose a gradient of light green to dark green. Then turn your blend mode to "Color" Then choose a pattern for your eyes, this will become the design which will take over the white area of your eyes. I choosed the pattern named "strings" which should come default with your Photoshop. How to turn your car, into a customised coloured ride! (All images in this tutorial are scaled down to around 50% and CAN ALL be enlarged) 1. Add a Gradient Fill Layer as a backdrop 2. Use Color Range to separate the the dandelion from the Photo 3. Clean up artifacts left behind from the Color Range 4. Add a Gradient Fill to compensate for the core of the dandelion 4. Create the stem of the dandelion with Pen/Shape Layers active. 5. Add Layer Styles to the stem layer 6. Add extras Next get out your pen and paper and do a few hand rendered drawings, scan these in and place them behind your subject image. The image then needs to be again multiplied down and also use the Edit > Transfer > Perspective function in photoshop to get it to match into your composition. Now grab a photo of an athlete (I went with a sprinter) and cut/paste him into the center of your document. Cut out the athlete from their original background using either the path tool or lasso selection tool (I used the lasso tool). Now paste in a photo of a shoe. Go to edit>transform>rotate and rotate/scale it to fit nicely in the center of your canvas. 3. You can make it more glamorous by using Adjustment Curves. In a layer palette, a button after Add New layer button is Adjustment Layer, click on it and select Curves from popup menu. With Adjustment Layers you can apply effects on the whole picture rather than on a specific layer. Now open up some more square photos or images and paste them over your new polaroids, fitting them perfectly using edit>transform>distort. Load it into Photoshop and hit Ctrl + U to bring up the Hue/Saturation adjustment tool and use the following settings: You would like to turn time back and to look younger? With this lesson for Photoshop'a we will show you how to make it all for some easy steps. I'm no pro photographer, but I do enjoy the basics of photography as a kind of part-time hobby. This shot I'll be working on is from a recent trip out with a few friends to take some shots of his new car. I figured it would be a good opportunity for a tutorial, to present some of the steps I take when working with images to both tidy up the shot, and to add some additional styling and effects. In this tutorial, we will discuss the enhancing of a photograph to either change the mood of the viewer, or to emphasize the object/product at hand. We'll add ripples to the perceived surface of the water with the filter Distort> Glass. In Photoshop CS, the Filter Gallery will open. In earlier versions of Photoshop, the Glass dialog box will open. The options are the same, only the interface differs. The values for the Distortion, Smoothness, and Scaling depend on your image size. However, regardless of image size, the Texture pop-up menu should be set to Frosted. This tutorial will show you how to make your object pop out of your frame using photoshop CS. Just like the image below: Many of Photoshop's filters are not available to images in CMYK mode. That doesn't mean you can't use the filters, it just means that you need to know a few tricks. Serigraphs are silkscreen prints that, in the hands of artists such as Andy Warhol, Michael Schwab and Antonio Reboiro, can be exciting, colorful, high-contrast images. We'll use Photoshop to create a serigraph-like look to a photograph. In the days before photoshop CS, to fix this photo, we would need to use the Brightness and Contrast adjustments, so lets try that and see how far we go... After those 3 layers, you might want to go back to some of your previous layers and tone down some of your corrections. And that's it! I fixed Britney's busted face in a matter of minutes. 1. Here's a macro flash photo of a Columbine. You can see chromatic aberrations around the edges of the petals, a thin red line along the left edges of the flower, a thin blue line to the right. Open your picture with Photoshop, press Ctrl+J to duplicate your image. When you are editing any picture you should always duplicate it and do all your editing on the copy. In this tutorial, I'm going to show you some of my own techniques I use in Photoshop to replicate great photography. In photography, you can set f Stops, which basically are you focal range. There is a lot to this, but basically, low f Stop means a WIDE range of focus, so basically the whole picture is in focus. Those nice pro shots you see when just the subject is in view, are shot with high f Stops. Now, I have a nice camera, but a lot of the time I don't have the time to set up f Stops, or mine won't go as high as I'd like. So, I turn to good old Photoshop to replicate it. Repeat Step 5 and 6 with other poses. It's up to you to decide how many rows of archers to form up in the troop. I've 8 rows (or layers) of archers in this tutorial. Open your photo. Go to channels palette and create a new channel (Alfa 1). Choose Rectangular Marquee Tool and create a rectangle. Then apply Select > Inverse; and Edit > Fill...(use: White). Apply Select > Deselect. Open your photo. Go to channels palette and create a new channel (Alfa 1). Choose Rectangular Marquee Tool and create a rectangle. Then apply Select > Inverse; and Edit > Fill...(use: White). Apply Select > Deselect. Then apply Filter > Distort > Glass with the following settings: Distortion-> 8, Smoothness->3. If there are some language mistakes, i'm sorry about that but that's because i live in belgium. Our official language is Dutch, French. So all my english i learn, is from games, photoshop, tv, music. So i hope you understand that. 2. As you see the image is not straight here, we will try to make it straight then give it a better look. Open it in Photoshop, and select the Measure Tool (Shift + I) Use the same effect to distort the eyebrows. Make this in a few steps and. This is my result, a funny effect on my picture: Few days ago I found a computer generated photo on the internet. This photo will be perfect for this tutorial - nobody will be upset. You can get really funny results using this technique. Now duplicate your photo layer and move it to be your top layer. Change it's blending mode back to normal to make it easier to see what you're doing. Then select around some key parts of your image using the lasso tool. I chose to select one of the cars, the lamppost and a few other pieces of my image. Invert your selection and hit delete to leave only these parts of the image remaining. Then set the layer blend mode to 'vivid light'. This should give extra emphasis to these areas and help give a little more depth to your image by fore-grounding the parts of it that are nearer to you. The images below show the image before and after this effect. Step 1 Ok people, let's get out a photo of a random person, and make sure it's a very large photo! Now the Terminator is ready for some further work. I will need a new photo of Harry Potter to replace the Terminator's face. Select and merge both the layers. From Filter menu select"liquify". Select "Forward Warp tool and distort the hair as shown in the image below. An obvious problem with this photo is the large petal sticking straight up in the lower foreground. Another is that that there is a lot of distracting detail in the lower left-hand corner of the picture. Another thing that bothers me a little in this picture is that the lush green background feels brighter and more saturated than the orchids which are the subject of the picture. The picture also feels too dark overall. As we manipulate this image, we will want to correct these problems. We will remove the offending petal, stretch the picture a little to reduce the amount of distracting detail in the lower left, and will alter the colors and brightness of the picture so that your full attention is on the flowers, which will be much brighter than the background, which we want to be somewhat muted. Anyhow, what we need to do is make sure we got a good photo of someone. Preferably someone that is already smiling; Now if the image still looks the same, try using the same filter on it twice. This will increase the quality even more. After you are done creating your high definition photograph, compare the two and see what a difference it makes!!! Rollover to see the difference! Alright, you got the image quality increase on the image, what next? Well, click the image to find out what the result will look like! Go back up to your overlaying layer and go to Filters > Pixelate > Mosaic. Change the cell size to 12. Now to finish it off, stay on that layer and go to Filter > Brush Strokes > Accented Edges. Now use the following settings: I have always liked the look of the 'artist's impression' used by architects, and thought I would like to try and find a way of achieving a similar effect using digital imaging. The image I chose was one I took in the Hollywood Bowl with the Coolpix 900 camera. Some time ago I was following Amazing Photoshop light effect in 10 Steps Tutorial by Fabio. I made a background (You can make it using Fabio tutorial - it will be used in this tutorial in step 1-6) and then I needed a coffee Cup. No problem - sxc.hu , few minutes and I found this nice Tea Cup. Because I don't like coffee, Tea is OK for me. Then I used Pen Tool (P) to extract it from background (You can use any technique You want to do it), and I placed it on my new brown background. I used Free Transform Tool (ctrl+T) to resize it for required dimensions. After this I realized that this won't be so easy as I thought. In this tutorial I am going to explain how to get some details back in an overexposed image. Photoshop isn't magic so we can't bring back details that are lost due the exposure, but we can bring back the details that are too bright. I'll show you a fast and easy method to do this. Follow me! All right folks, time do dive in. Altough I'm still very busy setting this thing up, but I've decided to start with the first tutorial ( I couldn't wait ). It's a how-to for making a dwarf from a giant ( as you may have guessed from the title ), very useful trick indeed. We can repeat this process for all the blemishes in the photo. It is best to keep the brush smaller rather than large to cover smaller areas. This way we keep the detail of the image, but we need to make sure we select the correct sources for the Heal brush. After healing, we have something like this: 4. By dragging the corners of the marquee (they can be moved independently in this mode) line the marquee borders with the actually vertical and horizontal lines of the image. In this tutorial I used a random picture I picked up from sxc.hu.You can use the same image or another one, it is up to you. Open it in Photoshop *If the result is too dark, go to image> adjustments> brightness/contrast. Play with the options until the photo will get a lighter tone, but remember that it has to be dark, so don't make it too light. With Magic wand tool (W) select blue sky and delete it. Manualy make small changes to the edge of the cloud so that blue color is gone. Ctrl + left click on the layer with the cloud to select it and go to the Edit - Define Brush Preset. Make new brush as you want, but remember how you named it. Close document and go to our original project. Now we need to find a donor for our convertible top.I used a BMW 1 convertible I can not offer you this one as I have not been given copyright to give it to other people but if you goto any stock photo website you will be able to pick one up. Open the image in photoshop and make a selection around its top with the pen tool like you did with the audi last step. Copy and paste the selection onto the car you want to put it. How often do we take a picture only to find it's not quite what we saw at the time. Photoshop gives us a second chance to recreate our image. Photoshop offers you hundreds of ways to improve the quality of images. Unless I'm doing some art working I normally find that the Auto correction tools and a few adjustment layers will do the trick. If not you can explore the many options available under Image > Adjustments. The options are too many to list here but they are worth exploring! Create a new layer by pressing shift+control+n together. Fill the layer with white color. Our final step to increase brightness of the image is to change the blending mode of this layer from Normal to Soft Light. You now have image which is more bright then your previous one. CTRL+left click on the thumbnail of the layer you just made and select the photo and press CTRL+C and CTRL+V and delete the red stuff; Now press CTRL+U on the copied skin layer and add these settings You will learn very effective sky extraction technique, use channels and curves to produce infrared-like grayscale image, use mask to isolate part of the image and create several layers with blending mode set to 'color' to control parts of the image independently. There have been several times when I've needed to combine a photo taken at one angle, with a photograph taken from a slightly different angle. The complexity of coming up with an acceptable end result increases with the differences between the angles of both pictures, as well as the lighting (and the resulting shadow incompatibilities.) In this example, we're going to take a stained glass window from a cathedral's interior, and integrate it into the exterior of a different cathedral. What we see around us is because of the light rays bouncing off objects. Taking objects from a specific environment and integrating/blending them into another environment is a very difficult task, because the color/lighting of the object is coming from it's original environment. It is also difficult because it requires both image editing and digital painting knowledge. This tutorial will take you, step by step, on how to integrate a creature (a lion) into a new environment, totally different from the original one. This tutorial assumes that you master the basic Adobe Photoshop techniques and tools, like selecting, layering, painting, dodging and filtering. Now with the light selected, and still with your desired cutting tool hold down the "ALT" key on your keyboard and cut around the lights in the middle. (may not be required to do this depending on type of lights). The image has some problems, however, that we must deal with. The first problem is the very dark background. The second problem is the lack of any interesting color in the image besides green. The third problem is the very literal photographic detail contained in the image, especially in the debris scattered on the surface of the water and in the spots and other defects of the lilypads. So we will start off by addressing these problems. Ok, So You Wanna Look Muscular? But don't afford the money nor the time to train in a gym? Who cares, it's only a quick impression picture that matters, right? Well, You can be right! Step 4 : We are now going to work on Jennifer Lopez' skin - so go to Filter > Brush strokes > Dark strokes, and have the following settings: Balance : 5 Black Intensity : 6 White Intensity : 2 Below is the result! It's time to make a magnifier effect for the photo. Apply Select > Load Selection... and then create a new layer. Apply Select > Modify > Expand (3 pixels) and fill this selection with any colour (apply Edit > Fill...). Apply Select > Modify > Contract (5 pixels) and press DEL. Choose Line Tool (weight->5px) and draw a short line. And that's it. See how you applied a magnifier effect to the photo using Adobe Photoshop 7: 8. Now we need to make another empty layer to the picture. Put the new layer to the bottom and fill it with white colour [ctrl+backspace]. Now select the picture layer and click the chain to link it with the gray border layer and press [ctrl+e] to merge them (look the picture). Now is a good time to make a snapshot of the work. You can use this simple process on almost any photo you take. There're so many methods to change your photo's color, but I will show you some best ways to do that, easy to edit. And there you have it! Very simple photo manipulation, to create a truly intense end result. If you compare the before and after images below, you can see how these easy techniques make a real difference to your images. This pictures were taken and then transformed in Photoshop by me, It was a job for a swimwear Catalogue I was doing. Ok, now time to make our accent. Go back to the hidden layer and make it visible again. Use Image > Adjustments > Levels to make this layer more contrast. Found an excellent Photoshop Action, created by Night Fate. I will make a simple photo-manipulated mythical scene here, and apply the action at the end to enhance the entire feel. This tutorial will only cover part of the completed tempus fugit. It will show only one of the faces. To show both would make this tutorial too long and complicated. 1. Open up the picture you want to be placed in the photo, I chose a picture of my dog sleeping on my bed. The New Adjustment Layer feature allows you to create adjustments to your photo or artwork one layer at a time. When you select, in this instance Levels, you are asked to name the layer and would you like to Group With Previous Layer. I most always check this box. You can color the layer and give it a transparency factor using Mode. You can also specify it's opacity. Go ahead and select Levels for this demonstration. Our first step will be to cut out part of the background. PhotoShop makes this relatively easy for us, particularly when we have a background which contrasts the foreground. You can use any of PhotoShops' built-in selection tools or the extract tool for this. We will use the Quick Select Tool to make a selection like so: Well, here is a trick to make it easier for you and make great looking results with Photoshop and a scanner. Let's make a photo into a piece of art that is worthy to be framed. Below is the undoctored version of the photo I'll use for this tutorial. We will start with a photograph I took of a fishing harbor on a recent trip to Martha's Vineyard. Figure 1 is the original photograph, taken with my Canon D30 digital camera, of weathered buildings with fishing boats tied alongside. A significant part of the photograph consists of the reflections in the water of the buildings and the boats. What drew me to this photograph were the reflections and the beautifully warm late afternoon sunlight illuminating the boats and the buildings. Reflections are one of my favorite photographic subjects. Yet the image has its problems. It lacks color, being a rather monotone blue. There is a lot of distracting detail in the image, which is not soothing to the eye. Although it was late afternoon, the sun was not yet low enough in the sky to product a really glowing effect. And the focus of the image is not strongly on the reflections and the warm lighting on the buildings, which I feel are the most interesting parts of the image. 1. Find or open photo of child (Good website with free photos - Stock Exchange). I chose this one: Tommy Baby select the layer containing the photo, change its blend mode to "Multiply" and opacity to 80%. Duplicate layer (Ctrl-J), set duplicated layer blend mode to overlay and opacity to 50% (you may want to change these settings so that your photo looks best way possible) I'll say it again: luminosity is the key to making good pictures; for those who don't know , PHOTOgraphy means "light-print".Photo means light (photon), when your eyes see an object , it doesn't see the object but the light it reflects, absorbs, and/or emits. The intensity of light , it's tint, falloff , difuse map are what make your brain recognize an object. Therefore, everything you do when you retouch a photo is to alter the caracteristics of its light; a good , simple example is when you enhance a landscape : you'll use curves, hue, etc, that all are commands that alter the luminosity.Since 99% of you work on RGB monitors, photo retouching consists in altering the value of each red, green and blue pixel in a picture, modyfying the light it emits. He also contributes to a number of other graphic art publications and Web sites, such as Mac Design magazine, Web Designer magazine and Computer Arts Magazine. With the image opened in Photoshop duplicate the background layer by dragging it over the Create a New Layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette. First, it's important to visualize enough well if there's enough elements in the original picture that can be used to make the transformation. Secondly, it can be helpful to find some good pictures as references to make the new object. For this one, I used no reference. After photographing orchids in the botanical gardens in Hawaii on several recent trips, I decided to see whether there were opportunities to photograph these beautiful and exotic flowers somewhere closer to home. Looking on the web, I found several florists relatively nearby who specialize in orchids. The photograph of moth orchids in Figure 1 was taken at Rod McClellan Botanicals in San Mateo California, a florist specializing in orchids who was kind enough to let me set up my tripod and spend a few hours in his shop. I captured the image using my digital SLR, the Canon D30. While many of my orchid photos are taken with a macro lens, which allows me to get really close to the flower, this image was taken from a distance with a telephoto lens, so I could capture the entire arrangement of blossoms along the branch, as well as some foliage. Orthochromatic photographs are taken with Orthochromatic film which is very sensive to colours from blue to green but extremely insensitive to colours from red to orange. It's usually used for copying videos in a darkroom with red light because the film does not absorb any red. Dustin Kein is an editor at Web Design Library. Couple of advantaged of doing it yourself, 1. Find a one of your photos or digital artwork pieces you'd like to use. Do any resizing that may be necessary. This is the photo I'm going to use, set at 800x600: Correcting a red over-saturated photo using Photoshop can be either very easy, or very hard. For example, if you have a photo that is completely red rather than just a little bit over the top, then I think you would basically have to desaturate the photo and recolor it from scratch - now this, you don't want to do. I am Naveed Babar. I am enjoying to work with Adobe Photoshop and my aim is to be a Master in Adobe Photoshop. So I can share lots of information, tips, and ideas through nicetutz.blogspot.com. 1. Select your photo that you want to enhance this works miles better with a close shot picture instead of one of those that show your full body and make sure its a photo of your face not one with your family. Click Ok and watch Photoshop do it's magic, after a short while all your photographs will be compiled into one (or multiple) thumbnail sheets. Save the files and print them out to present the collection to your client. Photoshop 7 has a very cool feature (heavy on the C-Double O- L) that has blown my socks off. Literally I can't find my socks. The command is called Apply Image, which let's you take a layer and channel from one image and blend it into another. Why is that cool? We shall see. You need a source image and destination image open in Photoshop with the same dimensions; once this is set up it is time to fire up the test tubes and start mixing chemicals. Today's little experiment will let us take a human skull and turn it into solid gold! Some time ago, I was looking on Google for an image of a centaur. Guess what, I saw nearly more Photoshopped "human" centaurs than original drawings. Mostly stuff like this and this. Clearly, a lot of people find it fun to make themselves into a centaur, but as you can see, they're not all that experienced with Photoshop. But, that's not necessary, you can just follow this easy tutorial, and you're the Photoshopwizard of the gang With only a few steps, you can greatly enhance the look of your images, simulating the use of a polarizing filter. Lets begin. In the premiere issue of Layers magazine, I wrote an Illustrator tutorial on how to convert a photograph to a vector image (May/June 2005, p. 48). In the first step, I mentioned a technique in Photoshop to help out with getting this process started. Here's the tutorial mentioned in the magazine that accompanies the Illustrator column. Simple way to add hieroglyphs is to use one of the numerous "Egyptian" fonts (I used one by Jim Loy). You may find it on the author's website. To install the font, download it, unzip and copy to your fonts folder (e.g. C:WINDOWSFONTS) You now have your final perfected image. These basic touchup steps can be applied to any image and will boost the quality of any photo. I added some text to my final image and here is my result: 2. Now open up photoshop and open your image that you want to lighten up. On the image layer selected go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels. And now a window will come up called 'New Layer' just leave everything to default and press ok. now setup the settings. Lets start. Open Photoshop and get the image you want to puppetize. This is a very easy tutorial and all you need to now is to use the transform option in photoshop that is in the edit menu. It's nothing to be afraid of. If you don't know what image to use feel free to use mine: In Photography, you focus to expose one part of the picture, the part you want most of the time. The part that is in focus is the part that will be best exposed. However, what happens when you are shooting scenery, and you have trees, foreground, the sky etc. etc. Well, if you have a dark room, you can do what's called a Full Dynamic Range technique, in other words, cheat and expose all of the picture right. You can't do that really with digital cameras, alas, but you can with Photoshop. Find your pic, and let's roll. In this article I'll show you how to make the realistic scars on your photo like in the pic.1. Do you like it? Let's begin. First, open the image you want to remove the skin blemish from. In this case I have chosen a random picture of a pimple. Once you have your image open, select the patch tool, show here: Step 1. Lock your image layer so you don't accidentally do something to it. Grab your lasso tool and set the feather to 5 and make sure Anti-aliased is checked. Step 6: Start to paint your photo to remove the freckles. If you find that the person looks 'too clean' you can always undo your step, and lower the opacity of the brush and try again. OK now we'll really start removing the power line. Hold ALT, and click on the clean ocean, this will tell Photoshop that this is the area we want to use to copy. Now go over the power line area, and click on it, it should turn into the clean blue ocean you selected. To me this is absolutely amazing. I can now see so much more detail in the grass and trees. I think I will try one more step and see if I can get it a little bit better. The beauty of Photoshop is that if you go too far, you can always undo and go back. I am going to duplicate the newest layer on the top that we just set the "screen" blend mode to. Sometimes you'll find that one color channel in an image is just not salvageable, but the other channels are fine. It's possible to, with luck and patience, recreate the damaged channel. For those who do not have Adobe Photoshop CS, learn how to simulate the effects Shadow/Highlight tool to reveal hidden detail in a photograph. If you have been put off infrared photography because of all the hastle with film storage etc, you can now make convincing infrared shots with your digital camera and a few tweaks in Photoshop :) Your final image now has rich colors. If you used the photo provided you have a trace of sunlight rays also. 1. Open the picture and make sure you see it as a layer not as a background or index. For this you should look in the last box on the right and you will see next to the picture how you see it. Usually Photoshop opens pictures in a Background mode. So to make it in a layer double click on it. Well, this is a quick tutorial on how you can obtain a rusted engine, this will help in understanding how you can use the blending effects to create the look you are seeking for, I started with a photograph of an engine: This Photoshop video tutorial will teach you how to create TV Scanlines from a two-pixel pattern in Photoshop. You will be learning how to define patterns, filling with patterns, layer blending modes, layer opacity and more... The goal of this tutorial is to show you how to use the brush palette and how to turn ordinary images in to sketch, like in the example below. Step 2. As you can see, Pic1 is photo of car with the hood down and Pic2 is photo of the car with it's hood up. Now we have to copy Pic2 onto Pic1. You can do this in several ways, and I'll be using standard Drag'n'Drop technique. Select Move Tool (V), click on Pic2 and then left click and hold on it and drag/drop it to Pic1. Pic2 will show up as Layer 1. You can rename it. I choose to call it "Engine". One of the nicest ways to dress up a snapshot is to surround it with a matte and a frame. This can be done digitally in Photoshop in just a few simple steps. This tutorial will walk you through the steps for reducing the size of a nose in a photograph using Photoshop. Step-By-Step Instructions: A mezzotint is a way of reproducing a photograph in black and white with etched lines instead of the familiar "dot" pattern of a typical halftone. Photoshop's Mezzotint filter won't give you a good mezzotint, but you can achieve true mezzo happiness with this tutorial. (Photo courtesy PhotoSpin.com) Now we need to select the area we want to smooth out, in this case, we want to smooth out the face, but we want to leave the eyes, nose and mouth intact so it looks genuine. So start by switching to the quick mask mode by clicking on the "Edit in Quick Mask Mode" button in the tool box. Now just rub over the badge, You should see that the clone tool has removed the badge by cloning over top off it. This is why you must pick part of the image to suit your purpose.. Start off with your car image, I'm using this image of a mini cooper s, first let me show you what were going to smooth, if you look at the image below i have circled in red the items we'll be smoothing in this tutorial. In this tutorial I will teach you how to spice up some of your nature images in some very easy steps by using adjustment layers, Gaussian blurs, blend modes, apply image and an artistic eye. In this tutorial, you will learn how to make smoke/steam that comes out of an hamburger or any hot food product. Our image was taken at Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswold's using the Nikon Coolpix 990. Using the cottages and the old car it would be nice to give our image an old world look to it. Step 4. Forehead correction. Make new empty layer (Alt + Ctrl + Shift + N). Name new layer "forehead". Pick Zoom tool (Z on the keyboard; another shortcut is to press and hold Space + Ctrl) and zoom in the forehead. We have to remove those wrinkles and moles. There are several techniques but easiest is combined usage of Patch tool and Healing brush tool. Go and pick Patch Tool (J) and start removing moles. The image layers are flattened by Layer/Flatten Image. The Layers Visibility will show the layers flat and one image showing. The Filters Tab is now selecting and I decided to use Accented Edges to help the texture blend in with the base image of the Model. The Filters are made to explore try every single one don't settle for just my idea try all your own. The tutorial is to help you create and use textures to expand your Photography with Photoshop 5.0. The original image was taken with the Olympus E10 on a bright sunny day. Even though it looked good it lacked the punch that can be achieved with a polarize filter. But in a few simple steps using Photoshop we can really add some impact to our image. I will be using one of my own photos called "Different Species" - you can either save it from my site or here - you have my permission to use the picture for noncommercial editing. Sometimes the camera can be easily fooled with difficult lighting conditions. Our image was taken on a very bright sunny day with the subject sitting in the shade of his tent. This has produced a dark image with little detail in the shadow area of our image.. So let's see how we can improve this image using Photoshop Elements. Step 5. Create a new layer then fill it with #000000. Put this one on top. Go to Filter -> Render -> Lens Flare With both images opened in Photoshop we select the Bridge image and duplicate the background layer by dragging it over the create new layer icon. This tutorial shows a quick way to take your normal, boring product shot and make it look more professional and elegant. This isn't a new trick, but it's a really quick process with Photoshop. Call up the levels palette and select the black eye dropper tool but this time click on an area of the train itself. This has now told Photoshop that this area is black and this will make quite a difference to our image. Step 2: Cut the tooth out as shown below using the Polygonal Lasso Tool and paste it onto a new layer (ctrl+c, ctrl+v). Greetings and welcome to another ArtCone Photoshop tutorial. In this tutorial we will be taking a look at some basic image compsositing skills and techniques to make a merger between the tower and the photo of the lake. Let's begin by opening the lake photo. Right click on the image and save it to your hard drive to follow along with this tutorial. Now choose the photo layer and the working layer, and use the eraser tool to also erase out the same area as you just erase in the above layer. In the next tutorial really like retouching an image of a model, this image was removed a few lengths at the waist. The tutorial is very easy to do. 1. Open your car in Photoshop. I am using the Aston Martin V8 Vantage that I modded in a previous tutorial. Now let's create the RGB pattern. Create a New File Ctrl + N. Set the Width to 6 pixels, Height to 1 pixel. Zoom in really close to about 800%. Ctrl + =. Select the Pencil tool. Click on your Color Picker boxes. To get a perfect red, set the Hex value to FF0000. As it is nearly Halloween again, I think it's time for a horror Photoshop tutorial. The thing is, there are tons of Zombies, Vampires and other assorted ghoulie tutorials out there, but as yet very few werewolf ones. So here goes, get ready to grow some hair and bark at the moon. By the way, if you are looking for a quick, 5 minute tutorial, keep looking! This is going to take some time, so be prepared. We will start with an image of two folding chairs that I photographed in a restored plantation called Pedro St. James on Grand Cayman Island in the Caribbean. See Figure 1. With our two image opened in Photoshop our first task is to 'clean them up' - removing all the unwanted distractions using the clone tool. Once we have done that we can set to work combining our two images. Then either select all the skin and remove everything that isn't skin or mask the whole layer, make the mask black and use a white brush to re-paint the skin. This tutorial describes in detail how to recreate a logo from a small GIF image that will be suitable to be used in a desktop publishing layout program such as QuarkXPress? or Adobe? InDesign?. It sometimes occurs that a company will not have their logo in vector format. Whether it gets lost or was never delivered in vector format (even though it may have originally been drawn in a vector program) or for whatever reason, you may be called upon to recreate it even from as little as a scan of a printed piece. It's a good idea to create your own wallpaper using your favorite snapshots. Your beloved person's photos will please your eyes every time you start your work on a computer. If you just enlarge the photos, it will impair their quality. If you leave them as they are - there will be blanks between the edges. Yet there's a way out! I'll describe how to adorn your photos and make the wallpaper on their basis. It's very easy to convert a photo into a watercolour photo. We just need to use a built in plugin called Watercolor ofcourse. Clouds were photographed in overcast day so photo was almost monochrome. Let's try to add some mood to this photo. At first open dialog window Shadow/Highlight (available from CS and later versions) and make our picture to be more gloomy darkening light zones. Simultaneously one can lighten shadows. Both these operations are especially useful for digital photos with under-timed or over-timed exposition. These actions broaden artificially the dynamic diapason or rather make semblance of that. In this case there is no need to correct shadows so we push OK button. And this: 1. Select Pen tool (P). Select the wheel. Go to Paths panel and right click on the layer with selection (radius and anti-aliased selected). Now select the wheel and press Ctrl+X to cut the wheel out. 2. Open the document with the car that you are going to tune and paste the wheels. Move the wheel. Now repeat the same steps on the 'head' and 'hand layers'. However, because you're basically erasing parts of these layers you'll need to hide your original photo layer so that you can view the result of this erasing process, otherwise the image will just appear the same as the original photo will show through underneath your erasing, rather than your black background. In this tutorial, it will show you how to build an amazing photo strip. It is mainly made by warp tool. After finished this tutorial, you will be able build a photo strip with your own photos or artwork. Try this fantastic feature, very nice!
1. Open your image. I've taken a watermelon on a porch. It has few well-defines colors very suitable for this technique. Make a copy of the original image or just copy the background layer. You can make this original layer invisible; we won't need it any more, if only for reference. (Please note the settings may be different if you use your own photo, but the idea is to put more emphasis toward certain colours in the image and bring them out a bit more) Next, choose Image > Adjustments > Replace Color . Use the Eyedropper Tool to select the color you want to change. In this can we have chosen the green dress and have simply moved the Hue to -70. You can modify the Hue , Saturation, and Lightness until you reach your desired results. Click OK and then hold down both the Ctrl button and the letter D to deselect the image. Step 6. Create new layer and name it "button_color". Click on Create adjustment layer and select Solid Color. I used this color #9d0808. Set Blending mode of this layer to be Color Burn. We have now colored our button. Learn how to change a color of an object. I'l show you 3 different ways of changing a subject's color. I'm sure there are many more but in this tutorial, I'll focus on the hue saturation, selective color ans replace color adjustments. Ctrl+left click on the Alpha Channel to load selection. Back to Layers tab and create a new layer. Fill the selection with any color. This easy photoshop tutorial will explain how you get isolated colors in a B&W; photograph. I'm going to use this cute little fellow from Batu Caves, Malaysia. Today we will have a photo edit tutorial and sure, it is simple and easy to follow as usual. I think you may see this in many music album CD cover and some artist poster or wallpaper. Ok, let's start then. This is the photo that I found in Google image. This more advanced method can make astounding results. You should try "Colorize - Quick Method" if you get stuck in this. Similarly select the other images and define the source and target image files. You can adjust the luminance, fade and color intensity according to your requirement. Step 4: Add a solid color layer (layer > New fill layer > Solid color), and insert R=228 G=255 B=0. Change the layer mode to Linear Burn or Multiply. A friend of mine asked for a simple way of reaching intense colors in an image with a half level of these that however, it could not seem so bad. A great way to simplify color matching across various photos. Whether they are from the same photo shoot or from a different batch, it's still a great way to synchronize color cast. Below are the two images in question. The (A) image is the one with the preferred color cast, and will be used in the 'Match Color' process for the (B) image. If you are not satisfied with your result you can do this. Go Edit>Fade Match Color, this is only possible after you close your Match Color window. And it can be done with every other option in Photoshop. From the box that will pop out you can lower the Opacity if you want or change the Blend Mode, and that's it you're done. Here is some more examples: This Photoshop video tutorial will teach you how to use the final two new features of Adobe Photoshop CS which are the Photomerge command and the Match Color command. You will be learning to create panoramas, how photomerge's AI isolates images that don't fit the rest, how to match colors and the luminosity of one image with another. If you have a colored image like this, and you want to re-color it, we need to go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate, to make it black and white. Learn one very simple way, using the mask of the Black & White Gradient Map Adjustment layer to conceal or reveal parts of the image in color and other parts as a black and white version.
