You've basically duplicated a part of the image that you wanted to by selecting it (in this case with the polygonal lasso tool) and put it on it's own space. The polygonal obviously works well with nice straight lines and corners which need to be selected (such as architecture).

The Magnetic Lasso is a capable selection tool. Available in both Elements and CS, it's options and controls allow for creating a relatively fast and well-defined outline. All you need to do is understand the essentials and get dragging away!

The magnetic lasso tool can be used to closely select part of an image in Adobe Photoshop CS3. The lasso acts like a magnetic and grips a hold of the selection. In this video tutorial, you will learn how to select with the magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop CS3.

The illustration below, is the lasso tool?s options bar. If you want a softer, blended edge on your selection, enter a value in the Feather box, usually from 2-5 pixels, but you can enter as much as you like. Be aware that if you intend to move the selection, colors from the current location will be in the feathering. Anti-aliasing softens the jagged [pixel] edges on curvy portions of the selection.

The illustration below is the magnetic lasso tool?s options bar (split in two because it's so long). The Feather amount can be set to give a softer edge to your selection [usually between 2-5 pixels]. Be aware that colors in the feathering will go with the selection if it is moved. Anti-aliasing softens the pixel edges on curved sections of the outline.

2. Select your magnetic lasso tool. To find it you will need to hold down your mouse on the lasso And select the magnetic lasso.

Click once on the Quick Mask Mode icon in the toolbox. A red mask appears inside the selection. Red is the default colour but as it is a bit similar to the orange of the fish, it would be more convenient to have a colour which gives a better contrast.

Photoshop's Unsharp Mask is a great way to add a little sparkle to eyes and a smile-but how do you avoid sharpening the skin and bringing out the wrinkles? Wrangle up the Lasso tool and I'll show you how to rustle up just the eyes and mouth...

This is a basic and old school way of making selections which you must understand. There are much 'better' ways which I cover in the Basic Photoshop training but once again; imperative that you understand the fundamentals and grow from there. Once you have made a selection around your subject, switch to the moVe tool as shown.

Fix any other areas that you feel need to be modified to get the selection. Even in this case the magnetic lasso doesn't do a great job. Don't even think of using it in complicated selection scenarios! Here I'm doing add to selection with the magic wand on a low tolerance because light pink is close to white.

Open up a new photoshop file with the size you want, do whatever you want to do that, get back on the render's window, select the move tool, drag the render into your Signature and your done. A render in a signature.

I have opened a picture of a flower I took some time ago, i like the flower here, since it has clean sharp edges and will work great with the magnetic lasso tool.
