PHOTOSHOP RENDERING Author: HUSSEIN AL-ATTAR View Tutorial: DesignerTechniques Hussein Al-Attar is a 22 year old amateur car designer who has taken part in international design contests such as the MotorTrend Design Contest, in which he reached the 3rd place in his category. His short clients list includes some respectable names of leading companies like Sixt Rent A Car, Bridger Conway and Heron Automobiltechnik. Hussein has not started his design studies yet, though he is planning to apply to Pforzheim University in 2007 to start a proper design education and give his self taught skills a professional touch. He is an Iraqi citizen and is currently living in Germany. For more of his work check out his portfolios at www.husseindesign.deviantart.com and www.cardesignnews.com/portfolios/husseindesign

WATERCOLOUR RENDERING Author: MAX SHERSHNEV View Tutorial: DesignerTechniques In this tutorial Max Shershnev shows us his technique for producing sketch renderings using watercolour paints. An unusual technique that is not often seen in the car industry, the tutorial is a good example of why knowledge of where colour should go can be more important than the method used to apply it. Max lives in Russia and is currently a student of the College of Art in Smolensk, where he will complete his studies in June 2006. To see further examples of his work you can view his folio on CarDesignNews at MAX SHERSHNEV

CANSON RENDERING IN PHOTOSHOP Author: ANDREW JONES View Tutorial: DesignerTechniques Andrew Jones graduated from Coventry's transport design course in 1999 and is currently working for 'Design & Realizations', a Uk based Japanese consultancy. Most of his work is for Toyota group and Mazda, but he has also been heavily involved with the exterior and interior design of a production Power boat. Andrew has also been regularly contracted out to Nissan Design Europe. In this tutorial he will explain how to achieve a Canson style rendering in Photoshop. With this technique you will learn how to simply add light and dark to define surfaces and pull the image off the page.

In this basic tutorial, you'll learn how to create a 3D cup from scratch in Illustrator, how to apply some texture to it in Photoshop, and also how to use the Vanishing Point filter to mock-up a scenario and apply realistic shadows.

The result isn't too real (the matchsticks' heads are very bad, and the shadow over they are bad too). And if you need to render something outside Photoshop that isn't - a least - Illustrator, its not Rendering in photohop.

Btw, I already knew and tried hard at academy to create realistic cd case, but I just like the way You are presenting all Your tutorials! Love the detail!

Introduction A fully rendered side view of a design is still key for showing off your design and perhaps having it selected to become the project winner and turned into a full size model. With today's large-size printers, no one should have to go through the pain of producing a full-size, tape rendering, with all the masking and paint spraying. A scanned line drawing of your design is all you need to render your car in Photoshop, and make it look like the real thing. Print it large, hang it up on the wall, and blow away the competition...

Introduction During sketch development I find that I understand what I would like to 'sculpture' in my design from the section lines I draw as a base, as well as from 'leaving out' areas. However, if you want this to come across to the people making the decisions, you need something that stands out and jumps off the wall in a presentation. Traditionally I would create presentation sketches by using the base sketch as an underlay, over which I would then draw the clean lines, and would put some marker and pastel on it to to express the 3D form. However, if you did this quickly, it would look too sketchy, and if you did it properly it would actually become an elaborate rendering and be quite time consuming. Another risk would be that in 'cleaning up' the linework, some of the character of the original concept sketch would be lost. Without trying to take any importance away from traditional art methodologies, these days it is possible to use the original sketch to make quick and eye-catching artwork that not only represents the original raw design ideas to the max, but also does the job of jumping off the wall during a presentation. A good sell. The following pages show a step-by-step process for quickly creating a presentation rendering...

Introduction In a modern design studio the ability to use Photoshop, or indeed any PC or Macintosh based image-editing and rendering package, can lead to faster and more consistent work on a great variety of levels. Tie this with Alias 3D and PowerPoint skills and you become a more employable designer. This tutorial will guide you through a method you can use to design/render alloy wheels using Adobe Photoshop, and is intended for those with a reasonable understanding of working in Photoshop. This 2D technique can be used to quickly illustrate and explore a range of design proposals, in conjunction with 3D modelling. Along the way you will hopefully learn new tools and techniques that you can apply to your own Photoshop work. Tools used: Adobe Photoshop

I???ve drawn Superman???s cousin Kara and her alternate dimension counterpart, Powergirl but no background! KwikClouds??? to the rescue! This tutorial allows a Photoshop user to quickly create stylized cartoon-like clouds when you need a pesky background fast!

10. Repeat the erasing process this time focusing more on the inside of the brushing. This will give your brush the last bit of texturing. After this, it is ready to be made into a brush, and used in a real abstract render!

This method of rendering is similar to the Filter > Extract method, only a little different, and in some cases may turn out to be easier. Get your image that you want to cut out..and select the Brush Tool.. While the Brush Tool is selected, select this icon to enter Quick Mask Mode.

Render filters create effects concerning lighting. They coat the picture with a cloudy pattern, imitate refraction and reflection of light on an object, etc. Besides, this category also includes filters that imitation of volume of an object with the help of light.

6. Change the blending mode to something like Hard Light, or whatever fits your needs. I personally did Hard Light for this render, because I needed a darkish feel for the render.

Now you can continue to add a few more of these "blotches" if you want, but to keep this tutorial readable I;m going on to the next part of the faux render process...

This tutorial is not as thorough as the other tutorials found here on Empire Dezign--hence the word walk through, so your experience with Photoshop is a plus, to say the least. The images of the render has also been reduced in both size and quality for faster load time. Let's get started.

[12]-Now Open New Layer & then fill the selection with '000000? color & then go to Filter>Render>Lighting Effect & use the following settings

Step 1. Select one of your thumbnail sketches and refine it. Scan it and do some cleaning in Photoshop. For any type of rendering whether it is handmade or digital the base sketch must be good enough in terms of perspective and line quality.

For those who never heard about it, Relief Shading is a cartography rendering technique where a three dimensional appearance is given to the topography of a map. The execution of this technique is quite complex and it is usually achieved using special map rendering software.

If you're like me at all, one of the first things you did when you got your hands on Photoshop was experiment with the filters. Filters and fun, they're easy to use, there are tons for free, and plenty to purchase. The possibilities appear endless. However, there is one filter that comes across as completely worthless, but it isn't. Clouds, a Photoshop standard filter, along with Difference Clouds, can be used many, many way. Its versatility will amaze you once you realize the possibilities.
