PhotoShop has many many tools at your disposal, and are offering even more with every release. With all these tools at your fingertips, it is good to know the quickest way of getting to them. This is where Keyboard Shortcuts can come in very handy. At the press of one, two or three keys, you can select a tool or apply a filter without moving your mouse across the screen and clicking and finding. This tutorial is aimed at CS3 Extended, primarily, but the majority of shortcuts will be the same in older versions as well. You will learn the most common keyboard shortcuts in this article, as well as some of the lesser-known ones.

Apart from default keyboard shortcuts photoshop let's you create your own keyboard shortcuts. Let's understand this by creating a custom keyboard shortcut for applying a plastic wrap filter.

In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial, we're going to look at how to create your own custom Photoshop keyboard shortcuts, which may not sound as exciting as, say, swapping people's faces in a photo or drawing lightning bolts that shoot out of someone's eyes, but no matter what you're doing in Photoshop, being able to customize your own keyboard shortcuts is a great (and easy) way to speed up your workflow and make both you and Photoshop much more efficient.

In this Photoshop tips & tricks tutorial, we're going to look at some handy tricks and keyboard shortcuts for working with Photoshop text. We'll be looking at things like how to quickly select words, lines and paragraphs, how to easily switch between fonts, how to quickly access bold and italic font styles, leading, tracking and kerning, resizing, aligning and justifying text, and more!

In almost all the Adobe apps, you can edit shortcuts by choosing Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts from the menu (or use the shortcut, Shift-Option-Command-K [PC: Shift-Alt-Ctrl-K]), which will open the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog. Note: If you start editing the shortcuts in Photoshop right away, you'll be changing the default set of shortcuts and that's a little unsafe. So, we recommend that you click the Create a New Set Based on the Current Set of Shortcuts icon (to the left of the Trash icon), which will allow you to save a copy of the shortcuts and edit that instead.

Now let's go over the Alphabet Shortcuts, dealing with the keyboard with no combinations. With the exception of the F key shortcut, all of these deal with your Photoshop toolbar.

I have found these keyboard shortcuts very useful when working in photoshop. Although this list is not a complete list of keyboard shortcuts, but is very helpful in common photoshop tasks. Zoom In & Zoom Out

Mac OS X users: In ImageReady, when the Use System Shortcuts preference is enabled, certain ImageReady keyboard shortcuts are usurped by OS X keyboard shortcuts. (For example, with the preference on, Command+H hides the application. With the preference off, Command+H shows/hides Extras.) To prevent this, press the Control key in addition to the shortcut or choose ImageReady > Preferences > General and deselect Use System Shortcuts.

When thats said, what I like to do is to add some of my own shortcuts to Photoshop, I have a lot of functions that I use often which is not attached to keys by default, so what we are going to do now is to add some shortcuts, some just for fun and others because you might need them in the future.

How To Change Photoshop Keyboard Shortcuts (CS & CS2 Only) To create your own shortcuts in Photoshop CS or CS2, go to the Edit Menu and select Keyboard Shortcuts. 1. Press Tab will hide tool bar and palette, Shift Tab will hide only palette. 2. Hold Shift click the top blue bar for toolbar and pallette will move them to the nearest edge. 3. When Using eyedropper tool to capture foreground color, hold Alt and click will instantly capture the color for background. 16. With Measure Tool, draw a line then hold Alt and draw another line from the end of the first line will measure the angle. 17. Ctrl Alt Z and Ctrl Shift Z will go back and forth in the history. 18. Alt Backspace and Ctrl Backspace will fill in whole screen with foreground color or background color, Shift backspace will bring up option windown, Alt Shift Backspace and Ctrl Shift Backspace will fill the image with foreground or background color but will leave the alpha transparent area alone. 19. When free transform with Ctrl T, hold Alt to keep the origial image and transform an duplicated layer of it. Ctrl Shift T to repeat whatever you did in the last transform. 20.
