Photoshop CS2 has a new feature called Smart Objects. Smart Objects allow you to alter, transform, and warp your photo, without ruining the original information. Here, let me explain:

This article could be easily called ???Shoot once, Use twice???, because this article explains how to use a single RAW file to get most data out of it. Usually the dynamic range of the camera (or JPG file) doesn't allow capturing all the details in highlights or in shadows. But the RAW files have this information and a few steps would allow us to retrieve and use this information. That's why we are going to create High Dynamic Range (HDR) file using Smart Objects.

Learn a bunch of cool things you can do with Smart Objects! Also learn what Smart objects are and how and when to use them!

So, with the upper girl layer selected, I'm going to press Ctrl+T to enter the free transform mode and scale the object down to a very tiny size like 33.3% (I'm pressing the shift button as I'm scaling it down) Now I'm going to accept that modification, and you'll know that we've just applied a destructive transformation, i.e. interpolated the object down to a very small size and reduced the number of pixels inside this girl layer. Now try and press Ctrl+T to once again enter the free transform mode, and let's try to make the objects as big or roughly as big as it was before. Shift-drag the corner handle and you'll see that it's not working out. You can see those big chunky pixels and of course when you press the Enter key, the image becomes all fuzzy. This is a destructive transformation and this is why the rule of thumb inside the Photoshop has been for years and years: you apply one transformation pass, you get all your scaling and rotating done, and that's that. Well, no more. Inside of Photoshop CS2 you no longer have to worry about that as long as you take some time to first convert the layer to a smart object. I'll show you how it works.

Sharpening did my bison some good, but it also brought out anomalous color patches in the fur. What's needed is a generous pass of the Median filter. Choose Filter>Noise>Median, raise the Radius to a hefty 50 pixels, and click OK. As a rule, smoothing should be applied before sharpening so drag the Median filter below Smart Sharpen in the Layers panel. Double-click the slider icon to the right of "Median" in the Layers panel. (Photoshop warns you that you won't be able to preview the effects.) Change the Mode to Color to smooth over the considerable coloring problems, and click OK to render the smoothing and sharpening effects together.

Photoshop CS2 has a new feature called Smart Objects. Smart Objects allow you to alter, transform, and warp your photo, without ruining the original information.

Here is where the power of Smart Objects is. In this case I have two instances of my search icon on the page. If I wasn't using Smart Objects I would need to update both. But because I am using Smart Objects I only have to update this once. Imagine the time this could save you if you have 50 instances! To edit the Object in the Layers palette click on the Graphic on the layer. It doesn't really matter which layer you choose - it will update both. When you click you will see a message from Photoshop to remember to save your edits. Don't forget this or you will lose your amends.

In this Photoshop video tutorial combine multi layered files with incredible new blending techniques. Learn how to use the Median setting to make unwanted objects disappear like magic.

With the introduction of Smart Objects in Photoshop CS2, designing websites became a lot easier than before. You don't have to change the objects one by one, smart objects are especially useful when you are editing the same type of images, for example buttons for your navigation. With the help of Smart Objects you now have to edit only one button and all the rest will reflect your latest changes. Sounds interesting huh? OK then let's start.

This is by far the best tutorial of smart objects and Photoshop in general that I have found thus far and being a new user to photoshop this was very helpful...I'd like to know if you do any other tuts personally....thanks again

In the image below if I had moved any further back their would have been power lines, telephone lines and tram lines between me and the front of this old theme park. Capturing a building so close will inevitably lead to aggressive converging verticals due to a combination of the wide-angle lens and the angle of view required to capture the top of the structure. When capturing images for a vertical panorama it is recommended that you capture images using the horizontal (landscape) format. If you allow the Photomerge to take full control of the stitching you will end up with a poor result. If you intercept the automated process and use the following essential skills you will end up with a more professional result... just one of the many essential skills from the CS4 Essential Skills collection. Step 1 Go to File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack. Select the Open files but do not select the Attempt to Automatically Align Source images option in the dialog. When the files have been loaded into one image select the layer with the subject matter that is closest to the ground (the one with the least amount of converging verticals). Go to the Lock options and in the Layers panel and lock this layer to force Photoshop to respect the perspective on this layer (the other layers will be forced to adopt the perspective of this layer when you then align the images). Select all three layers in the Layers panel (shift-click the top and bottom layers). Step 2 Go to File > Edit > Auto Align Layers. In the dialog select the Auto option and also select the Lens Correction options. Select OK to process the layers After the images have been Auto Aligned make sure all three layers are still selected and then go to Edit > Auto Blends Layers. Select the Panorama option and select OK to process the layers. In the layers panel select only the top layer and unlock this layer before proceeding with the next step. Step 3 Select all three layers in the Layers panel again and then go to Filter > Convert for Smart Filters. Select the Crop Tool and crop the image to remove the transparency that surrounds this composite image. If you look at the image closely you will no...
