In this example we are going to remove the background of a picture. This is a common task in Photoshop and one that is simple with the Magic Wand tool.

click on the Magic Wand tool and click somewhere around the object in your image. In this case, the white color around the PC.

The magic wand tool can be used to make a precise selection to an image in Adobe Photoshop CS3. In this video tutorial, you will learn how to select with the magic wand tool in Photoshop CS3.

Title: Creating raised text using magic wand and blur tool Description: The Raised effect tutorial shows you how to apply this effect to a graphic. In this tutorial we will use Type Tool and Magic Wand Tool.

The illustration below is the magic wand?s options bar. The Tolerance value sets how much variation in the clicked-on color will be included in the selection. A low number allows less variation; a high number allows more. Values may be from 0 to 255.

The work I'm about to show you was done for the Photoshop Cafe Movie Poster Competition. For this poster, I thought at a fantasy movie scenario... a team of adventurers proceeds in a glorious quest to find a magic wand that is supposed to help them save their realm from the forces of evil. I started by making some stars on a night sky:

The magic wand isn't always magic. In most cases, it is usually tragic. But in an instance like this, it should be easy to make a selection out of the wall.

Right click on the wand tool and you have a few options. After you have made your initial selection by clicking on a point within the image you can choose Grow or Similar. 'Similar' will take and expand the selection across the entire image looking for similar tonal range.

The Lasso tool allows you to draw a free form shape to create a selection. Just select the tool and then left-click in the image and move your mouse around. You'll see that you can be as detailed or as rough as you like. If you are trying to select the shape of a bird's feather, you can zoom in and trace right around the feather - it takes time and patience, but can be done. Another example would be to select some text that doesn't have a complicated background. You don't need to be as detailed in that case.
