The first instruction was: start with a new canvas. I did not even know how to do, but I finally figured it out.

Start of with a small size canvas ? around 420?00 should be fine. Create a transparent layer, and block out the red flesh tomato shape. This would be a medium tone.

But in cases were you need to show the leaf in the foreground, it would be required to put in some details.

The final artwork would be as follows.

This is going to be sort of a evolving painting and hence you need not work a lot on the details in the sketch.

On your canvas, create a new layer and block out the bushes.

One of the techniques I use is the use of varying tones of the same color contrasting against each other a bit. Start of by creating contour bands on the character with a large brush.

After the layers are combined, I take a smaller and softer brush and detail the fur and other skin texture of the ape.

You can see a larger view at deviantART entry in order to study the details.

Kitar, is an assassin from the same Order as Anwun. Assassin she might be, but her techniques are quite different. Her arsenal includes potions and powders and extracts of exotic herbs ? for most part they aid her mates in the order, but she has used the same effectively in completing certain high profile missions.

Inking is a technique that you may often need to use to give that illustrative feel, or perhaps be required for inking a comic book.
