In this tutorial we are going to learn how to Poly model a Pen and a Pen Cap in Maya 7.0. But the tools we use are all relevant to other 3D applications. I will go through the basics of everything, so this is for the Beginner to Intermediate. Well enough of my Chit Chat, LET'S GET STARTED! 11. Again under INPUTS in your channel Box Under polyCylinder1 Change the Radius to: 0.213 and Height to: 0.638 and line up The Cylinder in Your Side View port With the Back of the Pen. Using the Move tool ("w") on your Keyboard) 13. Now to start making the Body of the Pen. Right click and hold on the vertices and go to "Face". Marquee select the faces on the End of the Cap where the body would begin. Now, go into the perspective (Perps) View Port, now on the handle Part of the pen, go into face mode, Right Click and hold and go "Face". Now select a face by clicking the little blue square in the middle of a face. So select then and go Edit polygons>Extrude face, and extrude the face inwards. Do this to every 2nd Face on the grip. Ok right on! We have a Pen, were just missing one simple thing... The Pen Lid! So with this Tutorial we are just going to use the same principles we used for modeling the Pen itself. Well lets get started shall we? 12. Edit polygons>Extrude face, and line it up with the End of the Pen Clip, Use the Rotation Manipulator to Model the faces in correspondence with the Pen Clip. Do this over and over until you're at the end of the Pen Clip. Just extrude, and change the rotation, Extrude again Change the Rotation. In this particular situation, we will only need to rotate on the X axis, so only use the Red Line in the Rotation Manipulator to Rotate the Faces. After a little bit of work Your Pen Cap should look like this... |
