1. Flash and Internet Explorer Issues on the Macintosh Platform    kb2.adobe.com

Script Communication Macintosh Internet Explorer does not have a 32 bit version of either Live Connect or ActiveX. It is therefore not possible to have scripting communication with Flash movies. This has not changed in Internet Explorer 5.0, and attempting to send JavaScript commands with FSCommand actions will not work, nor will attempting to control the Flash Player with JavaScript.

Only carbonized applications can take full advantage of OS X's newest features, but the system's "classic mode" provides backward compatibility. This mode allows Macintosh applications designed for earlier Macintosh operating systems to run smoothly under the new architecture. Macromedia Flash MX is fully carbonized and can therein utilize the perfomance of OS X, however Macromedia Flash 5 and the Macromedia Flash Player 5 have been extensively tested and are fully functional with OS X in classic mode.
