Want to convert a MIDI file to MP3 format? ".midi to .mp3" conversion software is unnecessary! You can do it yourself using only Audacity.
Edit Steps
- 1Download (if you haven't already) and load Audacity
- 2Select Mono Mix or Stereo Mix from the drop down box.
- 3Make sure that the Input Volume (in the sidebar directly left of the drop-down box, with the little icon of the microphone) is set to a value greater than zero.
- 4Click the Record button.
- 5Play your midi. You should see the audio waves form on the Audacity track.
- 6Click the stop button when it is finished.
- 7Click play and listen to your .mp3 to make sure everything is as you wish it.
- 8Go to "File - Export as MP3/WAV/Ogg Vorbis".
- 9Enjoy your new file!
Edit Alternate Method
- 1You still have to download Audacity.
- 2Open it.
- 3Go to Project> Import MIDI.
- 4Go to File> Export As MP3.
- 5Follow the Dialogs and wait for the file to be exported.
Edit Tips
- This method is less expensive and simpler than purchasing midi to mp3 software.
- For .MP3's you will need to download a file called Lame_Enc.dll and direct Audacity to it. It's free! You might even already have it on your computer with other software.
- Many other sound-recording programs (besides Audacity) offer this capability, so if you already have one that you use, give it a try.
Edit Warnings
- Make sure that you don't do anything illegal with your new MP3.
- With large files, Audacity can take a long time to export, and it might seem to lock up. Be patient.
- The second method may require some configuration
- This method does NOT work in Audacity 1.2.6 - it won't be able to record MIDI.
Edit Things You'll Need
- A computer with a sound card.
- A midi file.
- Audacity
- Lame_Enc.dll (only for .MP3 conversion).
