Look Like You Know What You're Doing

It's always great to start something new, meet different people, or do something you've never done before. But how can you look like you know what you're doing?

Edit Steps

  1. 1
Confidence is the key to looking experienced and professional. Your walk, stance, and the way you speak are all factors of how you feel about yourself and the way you look at life.
  2. 2
Start by doing things you are good at in front of other people. If you're good at fencing, then fence in front of people. People with begin to think of you as a calm, level headed person.
  3. 3
Think before you act! Never make impulsive decisions or just "go with it." It's always best to keep yourself together and think before you do anything.
  4. 4
Wear appropriate clothes for each activity you take part in. It's always good to look professional and dignified. It's great to fit in, but make sure to add a little flair to your attire, too. It will make you stand out in a crowd and people will notice you.
  5. 5
Stand up straight. It makes you look confident. And if you look confident, people will be thinking to themselves, "I bet she knows what she's doing." Not only does it change the way people think about you, but it will also change the way you see yourself.
  6. 6
Smile a confident smile. This also makes people think you know what you're doing. If you frown, slightly stick your tongue out, or crease your eyebrows or forehead, you would come across as frustrated and not knowing what your doing. A pleasant smile will keep your work ethic up and make people like you even more.
  7. 7
Say to yourself that you know what you're doing. Positive thinking works! A combination of confidence and positive thinking is key!
  8. 8
Try to actually learn how to do whatever you're doing. Do some homework, ask for help, practice, or read some articles on the subject. There's no better way to look like you know what you're doing than to really know what you're doing.

Edit Tips

  • Remember that there are many times in life when you won't know what you're doing (because you're just learning) and that is okay. Just make the best decision and keep yourself together.
  • Sometimes it's better to be humble and admit that you're still figuring something out. If you admit this with a good sense of humor, people will appreciate your honesty.
  • Be bold when trying to look like you know what you're doing. It works the same way confidence does. So try to Be Bold. It'll help.

Edit Warnings

  • Make sure that in trying to pretend you know what you're doing, the safety of yourself or anyone else is not compromised.
  • Don't go too far or you may embarrass yourself!

Edit Things You'll Need

  • Confidence!
  • Boldness
  • Good Posture
