4. FLASH Photography Fill-In - Pro' SECRETS of Money Making PHOTOGRAPHY    photorog.com

THE PHOTO right was shot using a ratio of 1to1. IN THIS EXAMPLE, the photographer was trying to make the model stand out from the background, by choosing a ratio of 1to1., to let the background go darker, whereas in the other shot the fill-in flash is almost non existent, and the picture has lost impact. The most widely use flash ratio is 1to2. This image by the way, was chosen for the new artist album cover. THESE SHOTS were taken on location in London, in dull overcast weather conditions on a cold October day. THE PHOTO bottom right was shot using a ratio of 1to4. The exposure top right photo was 60th of a sec. at f.5.6, with the flash output set to f.5.6 The exposure bottom right photo, was 60th of a sec. at f.5.6 also, but with the flash output set at f.2.8 NOTE: This shot lacks impact, but is saved by the high contrast Kodak film. Camera; BRONICA SQAM, with PS 80mm.Lens. Flash gun; Metz 45 CL-4, Film stock; 120 Kodak Portra 160 ASA colour neg'. In my opinion one of the best color neg films ever produced by Kodak.
