From time to time it is useful to take a screenshot of your desktop, for example to write an instruction manual for a piece of software. This article tells you how to do just that.
Edit Steps
- 1Press the "Prnt Scrn" button on your keyboard. If Prnt Scrn is purple then press "Fn" + "Prnt Scrn".
- This does not literally print the screen, it copies an image of it to the clipboard
- 2To use this screenshot, open an image editing program such as Paint, or a word processor, or wherever you want to place the image, then press "Ctrl" + "V"
- 3If you do want to literally "print" the screen, paste the image into paint, save it, then right-click the file you have saved and select "Print".
Edit Tips
- Print screen may not always look like "Prnt Scrn". Use your eyes: if it looks like an abbreviated version of "Print Screen", it probably is.
- To make a screenshot of the current window only, press "Alt" + "Prt Scrn"
Edit Warnings
- If you press "Prnt Scrn" again before you have saved the image, the previous screenshot will be replaced by the new one.
- And if you use the clipboard again then the image or text you have just copied will replace your screenshot.
Edit Things You'll Need
- A computer
- Windows (This tutorial is not for Mac or Linux)
- A keyboard
- Something on the screen that you want a screenshot of.
