When designing furniture, you will want to adjust features, such as tapering the legs. Otherwise, it is just 2 X 4 furniture that anyone could make. Read this article to learn of one way to design a tapered leg in SketchUp.
Edit Steps
- 1In SketchUp, create a 1 5/8" square.
- 2Using the push/pull tool, make it 24 inches tall.
- 3Click on the Move tool and then select one of the edges that you want to taper. For making a furniture leg, the inside ones are the better ones to taper. Push it in to about half way. (3/4")
- 4Repeat on the other inside of the leg. This will make the top 1 5/8" and the bottom 3/4" square.
- 5Select the top surface of the leg and using the push/pull tool, extend it 6 more inches.
- What this does is allow the taper to start at the 24 inch mark, and then extends it further upward with no taper.
- 6Select the entire leg, then right click and make it into a component. The reason you want to do this is because you never use just one leg of furniture.
- 7Triple click the component to put it in editing mode.
- 8Select the paint bucket and then select a fill for it. Usually, you would want some type of wood.
