Create a Personalized Time Magazine Person of the Year Cover Icon

Are you an avid reader of Time magazine? Combine your love of Time magazine with turning yourself into a Time Magazine Person of the Year, suitable for use as an avatar or fun addition to a social media background. Follow the steps in this article, and you'll be well on your way.

Edit Steps

  1. 1
    Go to: http://apps.facebook.com/time-poy/
  2. 2
Log in to your Facebook account.
  3. 3
Click the red and white "Start Now" dialog box when opening the page. You may need to click this same box twice, allowing it to load in between.

  4. 4
Wait for another window to open. The window that will open will allow the app the ability to grab your information, as well as all your stored pictures already in your Facebook account.

  5. 5
Allow the app the ability to use your Facebook information. Click the "Allow" box to the window that pops up.

  6. 6
Wait for a moment for the page to display. From the page that will be displayed, you'll have two choices:

    • Click the "Upload" button, to upload a picture of yourself from your personal pictures (not stored on your Facebook account).
    • Click the drop-down right below this box, to switch between your Facebook albums to find a better picture.
  7. 7
Browse through the photos you have available and upload them. Each operating system and browser has different terminology and features to get your image to the Facebook app, so select your file and press the button that will submit it to the app.

  8. 8
Wait for the photo you have set to be uploaded to the app. This should take less than a minute on a reliably-fast network.

  9. 9
Drag the slider at the top of the app's box to enlarge the picture, so it fits within the magazine's page edges.

  10. 10
Drag the picture around the magazine cover until the white portion has been fully filled-in.

  11. 11
Click the "Crop" button when you're ready to save your work so far.

  12. 12
Click the "Download" button to download the picture it created.

  13. 13
Click the "Share" button (only in this order, due to a technical problem, if viewed on a user who doesn't have the Timeline yet). If you have the Timeline, you can do these two steps in any order you wish.

  14. 14
Use the same process you did for setting your first Facebook profile picture to set the profile picture for this picture. Just know where you've stored this picture on your computer.

Edit Warnings

  • This app only works when viewed on PC site or when the smartphone's browser is forced to work in Facebook's full-site size. If you view the original site, you'll be directed to Time magazine's Wall postings only, and you won't have the option to readjust. Make sure to not clear the cache after temporarily setting Facebook to open in full-browser mode to effectively open this app there.
