Edit Steps
- 1Open Final Cut Pro from where it is located on your computer.
- 2Navigate to the Project Library by clicking directly on the film reel in the bottom-left corner of your session.
- 3Navigate to and open the project you are adding a title to.
- 4Go to the Timeline area of your project and double-click on the section, also known as a clip, in which you want to add a title.
- This process will open and display the clip in the Viewer window, which is a preview screen located in the top middle section of your Final Cut Pro project.
- The Timeline is located in the bottom portion of your project session and is the place where you conduct all your video edits.
- 5Click on and hold the "Text" button in your Viewer window.
- The "Text" button displays a picture of an upper-case letter "A," and is located in the bottom-right corner of the Viewer window.
- 6Continue to press the button on your mouse over the "Text" button until a drop-down menu appears.
- 7Point to "Text" in the drop-down menu and select "Text" from the additional options that appear.
- 8Release your mouse button to display a text editing box in the Viewer window.
- 9Click on the tab labeled "Controls" to access the text control panel.
- 10Click anywhere inside the gray section to the right of the "Text" field and write your title.
- The text control panel will also allow you to change your title's alignment, font color, font size, font type, and other characteristics.
- 11Click on the "Video" tab to designate how long you want the title to stay on the screen in your video before it disappears.
- Navigate to the upper-left section of the Video tab to modify the amount of time.
- 12Click and drag the Playhead to the section in your Timeline where you want your title to appear as the video plays.
- For example, if you are making a movie and want the words "The End" to appear before your closing credits, move the Playhead to the end of your video.
- The Playhead is a small, yellow arrow that resembles an upside-down triangle and travels along the Timeline as your video is being played.
- 13Navigate back to the Viewer section and click directly on the title you created.
- 14Drag and drop the title directly at the Playhead's point to add the title to your video.
- Your new title will be indicated by a green line above the space you placed it within the Timeline.
- 15Move the Playhead to a section in your Timeline before the title appears and click on the "Play" button to preview your video with the title added.
- Double-click on your title within the Timeline to make modifications in the Viewer window if needed.
- 16Save the new title in your project by pointing to "File" in the toolbar of your session, and selecting "Save Project."
