Really want to annoy a lot of people who need to use your models in their assemblies? Want to make sure that everyone knows you made the model and you own it?When creating ProEngineer parts and assemblies, the user has the opportunity to embed as much information behind the visual CAD data as they desire. The user can assign, Density, Material, Created By, Part Name, Part Number and any other parameter that they desire. One parameter may be a note that is visible on the computer screen to all those who open the part.

Edit Steps

  1. 1
Create a ProE part or assembly.
  2. 2
Create a 3D note. Suggestion: I Made This, Barry Ahn Engineer
  3. 3
Edit text for Font size (if desired)
  4. 4
Do not place the note on a Layer.
  5. 5
If your config.pro is setup to automatically assign 3D Notes to a specified layer, do not turn off that layer.
  6. 6
Save the part and/or assembly to your database (in this case, Intralink).
  7. 7
    Lock the part and/or assembly.
  8. 8
Do not share the lock with anyone.
  9. 9
Notify users that your part is available for use in their assemblies and let the hilarity ensue.

Edit Tips

  • This assumes that the user does not care to use the functionality of the software to place their notes on a Layer and turn off/hide that layer.
  • It really is funny to see the look on their faces when your part opens with a massive note visible. If they turn off all 3D notes, then they won't be able to see their notes either.

Edit Warnings

  • This is NOT a best practice in ProE.
