The categorizing app makes it easy for you to search categories for the one that best fits the article topic. Here's how to use it.

Edit Steps

  1. 1
    Open the categorizer app: http://www.
    Open the categorizer app: http://www.
    Open the categorizer app: http://www.wikihow.com/Special:Categorizer
  2. 2
Look at the article title. If you don't understand what the article is about, click on one of the links below the title to learn more about the topic: "View article introduction" or "Open article in new window".

  3. 3
Type in one or more words into the search box that describe the topic. As you type, or when you press "Search", a list of categories will show up underneath the search box. If one of them fits the topic, click on it.

    • Refine your search terms. In this example, none of the resulting categories fit, so try to be more specific when you search. Instead of searching "water" try searching "water survival" since sanitizing water yourself is something that is often done in survival situations.
  4. 4
Look at the subcategories. Is there one that fits better? If so, click on it. Once you have selected a subcategory, or if none of the subcategories are suitable, click the "Add" button.

  5. 5
The category that you've chosen will show up under the title. If you want, you can search for another category to add following the same steps above once again.
  6. 6
When you're satisfied with the category (or categories) that you've chosen, press the "Save" button to move on to the next article.

Edit Tips

  • At any time, you can press the "Skip" link on the lower right if you want to move onto another article without categorizing this one.
  • If you aren't quite sure what the article is about, you can press the "View Article Introduction" button to read the introduction. If you still need more information after that, click the "Open Article in New Window" button to read the whole article.
