Television, and movie producers use storyboards to plan out their work long before it reaches you. If you follow these directions and steps you and practice lots you could make storyboards like they do one day, and maybe you could be one too, but not without a good idea and lots of practice.

Edit Steps

  1. 1
Thinking: Get a couple ideas out on paper so when you are ready to begin you can narrow it down to one or two ideas. Think through your ideas, plan your characters, as well as their personalities, quirks and hobbies. Choose a main character now. At this time you may also want to figure out what the mood of your story will be.
  2. 2
Setting up and Prewriting: First you have to have your idea of your charecters in you head i.e. personalties and your basic story line. Now would be the time to add details to the story and dialogue.
  3. 3
Putting it Together: Draw basic drawings putting everything in the places you have them in your head. Don't add details to your character or background yet, this is just the time to get your ideas on paper.
  4. 4
Finishing: Get a few pieces of paper and a few things to draw with now you need to get your basic story line put everything together and adding details. Draw is supposed to happen in your story or movie with notes and dialogue in captions on the bottom.
  5. 5
To Finalize: Put everything up, captions and pictures and ask someone to look over your work to make sure it makes sense.

Edit Tips

  • Write a small synopsis of all of your characters beforehand so when you start planning you have something to refer back too. Do the same for your backgrounds as well.

Edit Warnings

  • Your first storyboard might not be amazing but don't get discouraged, keep practicing, or you won't get better.

Edit Things You'll Need

  • Assorted colored pens pencils and sharpies or other markers.
  • Multiple sheets of paper, both lined and copy paper.
  • Sticky note to jot down ideas or thoughts.
