Be a Good wikiHow Editor

Want to be a good wikiHow editor? Here are a few words of advice:

Edit Steps

  1. 1
    Take the wikiHow Tour.
  2. 2
Review the Writer's Guide and other basic articles within the Writing and Editing category.
  3. 3
Practice some of the basic techniques.

    • Build confidence. Ask others for advice and direction.
    • Be patient. Practice until you become comfortable with each aspect.
    • Build one aspect upon another.
    • Review the History page of an article to see if your edits have passed through the patrol.
  4. 4
Incorporate these basic techniques into an entire article or continue to add certain aspects to several different articles.

    • Choose articles that are of interest.
    • Choose articles where you can provide further information or direction.
    • Choose an unknown topic that you'd enjoy researching.
  5. 5
Welcome new users and offer constructive advice to fellow editors.
  6. 6
Participate in the forums. Get involved in decisions and projects.
  7. 7
Have a positive attitude. Be kind and courteous.
  8. 8
Understand what the article truly is about before editing. Get your facts gaffed, and ready to go! Always read the article before editing. It truly doesn't matter how many edits you do on the same article, as long as it is useful, wikiHow appreciates the edit(s).
  9. 9
Always be on the look out. While reading, reconnaissance for any typos or silly errors. If you ever make a silly typo, correct yourself. You have one option. The page where you made your typo, silly error, look to find a little square box at the top of the article. When you spot it, click it. Then, encounter your typo, and fix it.
  10. 10
    Relax and have fun!

Edit Warnings

  • WikiHow editing is addicting.
  • Do not give personal information out. Just because you are on a nice website doesn't mean everybody is nice. People sometimes have to be blocked for being mean and asking information, try to avoid those users.
