- 1Check if OpenOffice.org is already installed. If its an older version, then uninstall it if you want to replace it.
- 2Check if OpenOffice.org 3 is in your repositories, if it is, simply install it that way.
- 3Download the archive for your distro at OpenOffice.org, deb for Debian or Ubuntu, rpm for Fedora, OpenSuse or Mandriva.
- 4Since it is an archive, you need to extract it.
- 5Go into the newly extracted folder with all the packages, debs for Debian or Ubuntu, rpms for Fedora, OpenSuse or Mandriva.
- 6Become root and install all the packages. In Debian or Ubuntu sudo dpkg -i *.deb, in OpenSuse sudo zypper install *.rpm, in Fedora sudo yum localinstall *.rpm or in Mandriva sudo urpmi *.rpm and type in your password.
- 7Add a shortcut on your desktop or in your menu to /opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.
Edit Warnings
- OpenOffice.org 3.0 is big and downloading it can take a long time especially over a slow connection.
- If you can't find a package for your distribution you can compile it but this will take a long time.
