Poems can take many forms
Poems can take many forms

Making a good living in the poetry genre is hard. However, it is not completely impossible. Here are some steps to show you how.

Oh and btw, Miranda is amazing. :) xD

Edit Steps

  1. 1
Read many different poems. Try to find out what has already been written, and NEVER copy ideas or stanzas.
  2. 2
    Take inspiration from everywhere.

Take inspiration from everywhere. Many poets take inspiration from nature, people, or events.
  3. 3
Listen to lots of music. It doesn't have to have lyrics. Decide what genres you like and listen to a wide variety of artists.
  4. 4
Keep a "poetry journal". Carry it everywhere you go, so that if you come up with a poem or idea, you can jot it down.
  5. 5
Keep a thesaurus handy. If you want to use a word in your poem, but it doesn't rhyme or fit the rhythm, you can try to find another word that means the same thing.
  6. 6
Keep a good attitude. You need to be able to accept criticism gracefully. Some people will like your poetry, others won't. Don't dwell on what the haters say.

Edit Tips

  • Try writing with different styles and moods to see which fits you best. Ask yourself, "how can I best portray my voice/message" poetry is as much for other people as yourself.

Edit Things You'll Need

  • A pencil. Trust me you will do a lot of erasing
  • a notepad to jot down ideas or words that you like
  • a camera-some poets like to draw ideas from photos
