I added a title change since the 5'8" information will not be as helpful in a search. I suggest "How to Be a Model When You're Short" or "How to Be a Model When You're Short in Height".

Agreed on the title change - but then perhaps make a bigger deal of the "ideal" heights for modelling within the article(?). After all there's a big difference between what's short for an average woman (below 5ft4/5) and what's short for a model (below 5ft6 commercial, 5ft8/9 fashion) and I think the current title illustrates this well.

Also, having reviewed the article, it's lost some of its original "gloss" that made it such a good article when I first read it. I realise this is probably quite offensive to those who have contributed, and I apologise for that, and that I'm not exactly the world's most formost authority on the topic, but I can see a lot of glaring errors with this wikihow.

To be honest, it's become a bit of a "how to go to modelling school, get a hairstylist and not get scammed" general article than one that specifically deals with the issues that a "short" model will have to deal with. I think this is a real shame as that's a great angle for a wikihow (I mean, there are so many 5ft7 and under girls who want to model but get discouraged from the word go!) but this version just has no focus.

Worse, I think a lot of these suggestions show a very narrow view (modelling schools, for example, are debatable in how useful they are but the article makes it sound like they are the must-do thing for all short models - AWFUL advice considering the high percentage of modelling schools that are deemed scams!) and seems to contradict itself (first it says get 8x10s and think about booking a pro-tog, then later on it says the opposite!).

In short, this article has lost all structure and specificness, in my humble opinion! I think it really needs to be striped down to its bare-bones - what specifically are the issues facing a short model? (Not suitable for traditional fashion market, may be automatically disregarded from castings and agencies) How are you supposed to tackle these issues? (Market yourself appropriately, accept your limitations, look for agencies that accept models under 5ft8 which may involve looking in a different locality, freelance). Basically, I think this article should move away from the typical rant of "This is how to be a model" because, quite frankly, there are already enough articles on here already covering that and move more towards the "specific" problem of being short.

I realise I could just go in and edit this all myself but, as the article has developed in the way it has, I don't feel comfortable doing this (it would require a lot of editing - almost a complete re-write - and I feel that will be disrespectful to those who have already contributed PLUS I'm happy to admit I don't know everything on the topic!) so I thought I would add this note to the discussion page to see what other people felt could be done to improve this article.

I moved some information to Become a Model, which covers a lot of what was in this article. Now all that's left is height-specific advice to keep this from seeming like a duplicate of the other article. Please add more height-specific advice if you have it!

im not sure who wrote this article or whether she has had underheight modelling work but in general alotta reputable agencie won't look twice at a pretty girl under the 5,8" height. -Kate Moss is the exception not the rule. Sites like Models.com are full of experts and nasty 15yr olds that just slam anyone who isn't 6foot and im not sure there's really any reason to encourage girls to model when underheight. The measurement specifications at the end of the day are a "quality standard" demanded by the designers adn the photographers in the industry.Theres not alot that can be done about that. Thats the truth i learned after wanting to become an underheight model.

I want to be a photo/print model so I know I don't need to be taller but still. I'm 5'4 and 108 lbs. And it is indeed unfair that short girls don't have a chance to do what they want (and possibly can).

5'6 is too short for runway, they want you to be around 6'. You could be a print model though. Although you sound really skinny, which really is best suited for runway/editorial. Sorry, I'm kinda going off a little ranting right now, if I even make any sense.

i am 15 years old and at 14 i was told i could be an amazing model, that was said by dieselmodels.com. they lied. what else can i say? i made my mom belive it too and she spent over 400 pounds on 8,new picutres to make a portfiolo. After the money was already paid they said there is a slm chance as i am only 164cm tall, adn that is not the normal model height. Even though many say i have the looks,i find myself being discriminated against shortet girls/women. My dreams were broken,i had somethignt o fall back on yet and some simply dont have any other dreams to head for...

Anyways I think that tall girls are ugly, short girls are sexy, we never have probs like being taller than ur guy!! Haa haa .. So let the tall ones be tall!
