Create a Strong Friendship Between Uncle and Niece

Whether she's a new born or already a teen, getting to know your family will have it's benefits and it's never too late. Here's some help getting you started building a friendship with your niece.

Edit Steps

  1. 1
Talk to her! When her and her parents are round talk to her as well, if she's not a baby don't treat her like one, talk to the nieces of 8+ like an adult avoid any baby talk or things that will make her feel childishly immature like 'if your a good girl I'll...'
  2. 2
    Take her swimming

Find a Mutual interest! If you both like swimming or cinema for example and she often goes alone or hasn't been in a while start doing it on a weekly or monthly basis.
  3. 3
Teach her stuff! Be kind with her and remember your teaching her for fun, not for an serious exam. If she's just a toddler you can teach her anything from reading to clapping games, if shes older than that cooking is always a good subject and if shes grown up driving or another language are something she'll need to learn.
  4. 4
Give her presents! You don't need to go out of your way buying her a daily gift but when it's her birthday or she's achieved something big, get her something she's mentioned wanting before, that's small.

Edit Tips

  • Don't force yourself on her become friends over time, it's scary if you're asking her over every week and planning to meet her next week and the next when you only started properly talking last week.
  • Be trustworthy if she does something and asks you not to tell her mum, don't tell!
